Track announcer was wrong. He said only three advance from each heat. Actually five from each heat automatically qualify, plus the next two fastest times. The East and West each send 12 runners to Eugene for the Final.
They used their great high school career to sign up to get a Stanford education. They just didn't get the same level of coaching they had from the Brosnans. And so they are both running slower than they did in high school. But this is their first year. The Young's brother Nico obviously got the Q here as a senior and Colin Sahlman is shining in his second year at NAU. I haven't heard squat from his younger brother Aaron, also a freshman this year at NAU.
