It sucked. Since birth I wanted to give life 100%, and going through high school was hell. My friends made fun of me, my peers made fun of me, my teachers made fun of me, all for wanting to work hard and get good grades, work hard at work and do well in my basketball team. And it's far worse in the country side where I grew up. It wasn't until I reached university in the big city when I finally found some of the pressure lifted, but it's still bad. Heck, even at my cafe job, I promised the boss I'd work hard if he hired me, so he did, and I worked hard. Within months, I am the best on the team and make no mistakes. Now, the boss just makes fun of me. WHY AUSTRALIA?!

100% TPS is horrible. Not sure why we can’t all just get behind our successful people, I suppose it all comes back to jealousy in that most people don’t have the courage to do it themselves so they sit on the sidelines and ridicule

100% agree Mark. This really exists in the workplace. Don’t you dare be great at your job….. it is much better to be mediocre and be with the rest of sheep

As an American, I find this quite surprising

Yip I've found the tps brings serious jealousy, and it can actually get violent, jealousy has no limits, and thats scary...

Yep. Don’t draw heat. But as with all things we tend to beat around the bush in this country both ways. Never seen a Foreclosure sign in Australia… Only, “Must be sold by x date” or “present all offers by x date.” We’ll have another financial crisis in 6 months that will tear up families like 2008 and “Australia will have navigated the storm better than any other country.” Tall poppy syndrome for the individuals but perpetual elevation syndrome from the government. Is that like… fascism? I really don’t know! Now get back into line!

I've copped hear for mentioning this as an expat in the US. It's not true for all Australians, but the ones who it's not true for are sensitive as hell about it being a thing.

Yep. I bought a second hand bmw convertible for $39k and I was crucified with backhanded comments about how much money my shop is making. Often the customers cars cost more than mine Definitely prefer to stay under the radar

You know, Wally appreciate your message. You’re definition of excess is absolutely not defined. Since it’s so ambiguous people can’t read into what you expect of success so the. premise that people who are successful hide is not really the best soundbite for your short little video. Please define success as we all find it differently and I’m not hidding..

Mate I’ve worked with some of the richest blokes in NSW … tall poppy syndrome is bs .. I live deep in the western suburbs .. you can’t rock up in a lambo to a local pub when people are struggling to put food on the table and not expect smart comments.. and that coming from a good mate I know that owns half the car yards this side of the city.. I’m a single man doing well and I travel a lot but if ya talk about it all the time in front of a bloke with 3 kids struggling to pay rent ,of cause his gonna cut ya down 😂
