What a way to explore Scotland's incredible coastline! Our week aboard 120 year old (!) Bessie Ellen, sailing 193 miles around The Inner Hebrides, was one of our most memorable travel experiences to date. Read about the journey and see plenty more images of life on board Bessie in our accompanying blog post > www.goingthewholehogg.com/sailing-hebrides-tall-ship-bessie-ellen/ Thanks for watching and please do Like and comment to help us reach more people and continue to create films like this 😃 Kim & Del
Thank you, I am sat with a friend in last days of his life who sailed on the Bessie Ellen. This just started playing. He is smiling and crying. You have made someone's last moments very special x
I've said it before, but without a doubt you are the best 'outdoors' film makers I know. This is especially delightful - I had a week on Bessie Ellen in June 2022, and you've captured life on board perfectly. And that's on top of the stunning shots of the scenery.
Thank you so much Adrian, that’s very much appreciated. And all the better for knowing you have had your own experience on Bessie Ellen. Thanks again 😃
Many years ago I was retrenched from the company that I worked for, and the retrenchment compensation plus six months’ long service leave as a lump sum bought me a run-down gaff ketch. Seven years’ work made her sailable, and I really enjoyed it. However, I ran out of ‘resources’ and had to sell. Friends who have seen her recently have said that she has found a proper shipwright to look after her, which is very satisfying. Now I have ‘swallowed the anchor’, so watching Bessie Ellen brings back the good times and pleasure sailing.
i work at a very similar boat in norway called anna rogde a skooner and å bit older than this one but i like how similar thing are on this boat. we dont have a cute dog tho
Awesome film. It's a mystery to me as to why you do not have many more subscribers. I'm afraid if I was on board, the noisy dog would have disembarked somewhere near the Corryvreckan 🙂
Thank you for saving this ship. I hope when you are old someone else will do the honors. I spent my honeymoon on a homemade ketch sailing around Florida, and another two weeks the next year on the same boat. I wonder what happened to it when the owner/builder died?
Great videography and sound editing! Love your Scotland videos, especially the isles, more so the Hebrides. Awesome crew, and super hardworking. 🎩 The dog was the cherry on the cake. ☺️
Thanks very much! Scotland is great place to make videos, the Hebrides especially. Really enjoyed this trip and we’re pleased with how this video turned out. The crew were great and Bracken was the best! Thanks again 😃
What a great voyage! Thank you for sharing this. My favorite was the smell clip/drone footage of Easdale. What an odd little gem of an island. Your channel is way underrated and I hope it continues to flourish big time! Amazing!!
Thank you so much! We too were hugely impressed by Easdale, a little island neither of us had ever even heard of before. Looking forward to going back someday soon. Thanks again 😃
Great filming as always , bet it was great to see the Inner Hebrides from another perspective! Brought back lovely memories of Easdale and Colonsay and Oronsay ( we didn’t have enough time to visit the beautiful beach you were on / swimming in the sea , as had to hurry up before the tide came in ! )Lovely to see it from the other side of the island . Food looked amazing, weather looked on your side too and loved Bracken the dog . Your filming / editing is amazing on all your vlogs but particularly love Scotland, it’s our favourite place in the world xx
Yeah it absolutely was fantastic to see the islands from this perspective, and nice to have visited them as a bit of a surprise, as the itinerary just depended on the winds and weather! Would love to go back and visit them all again for longer. Not having to worry about the tide was the beauty of visiting Oronsay by boat! The food was incredible, worth the trip just for the daily feasts, and Bracken never failed to make us smile. Thank you for your lovely feedback about our work, and happy to hear you've had the pleasure of visiting this area for yourself! Hopefully plenty more Scotland videos to come in the future : ) Kim
What? A feature length film of the Scottish Hebridean Islands by the best filmmakers on RU-vid, you say? Yes, yes, I will partake and relish every second. Watched the first half hour, a beautiful film as always. Can't wait to soak up the rest. xx
Did something similar to this in 1984 on the Alystra out of Ardfern but got to Islay as well. The result was Scotch and Water, a guide to the Hebridean malt whisky distilleries.
Wholly guacamole! How much does a trip like this cost? It's gotta be life's savings territory, like twenty or thirty thousand dollars. I bet you have to have real connections to get on this lovely boat.
You captured the experience brilliantly. Having watched this yesterday, it keeps coming back to me, as if I had been on board along with everyone else. I even enjoyed the food, made friends with the dog and felt the strain on my arms with all that hauling! Thank you!
Hi. We have added the info about locations for each day to the chapters, if you hover at the bottom of the screen or check the description you will find the locations. Thanks, Kim
