Never been this far west in Florida before and let me tell you, it is quite different than the rest of the state out here! First time in Tallahassee and wanted to report my take on the area and if it might be a good place live and or visit.
Book a one on one call with me here!

I lived in Tallahassee for about 16 months while in graduate school, and I really loved the southern nature aspect of the city. Also, there is a beach close by, and it does offer excitement for college sports fans.

If you're going to drive along the coast on US-98, there are two very small charming cities of Apalachicola and Port St. Joe. If you're going along I-10, there is Falling Waters State Park, which has a 70 foot tall waterfall. Also, in Marianna, there are caves you can tour inside at Florida Caverns State Park.

When I think of Marianna I can’t help but remember the reform school Florida School for Boys, saw a documentary recently were they interviewed a few men that were tortured beyond belief… and no one stopped it Throughout its 111-year history, the school gained a reputation for abuse, beatings, rapes, torture, and even murder of students by staff. Despite periodic investigations, changes of leadership, and promises to improve, the allegations of cruelty and abuse continued.

What I think makes Florida, and any state for that matter, so interesting is its diversity of landscapes and scenery. And what sets it apart from almost everywhere else in the country is, you can bring a bottle of water with you and enjoy all the different aspects of the state 12 months a year. I never thought much of Tallahassee but I'd definitely visit after watching this.

In Tally you will come across a mixture of giant Oak Trees, Pine Trees, Maple Trees and Camphor Trees. Every once in a while you may spot a Palm Tree but overall they struggle in the winter cold. It seems the authorities are big here on trees and nature. The only problem with the trees is that you don't know where they begin and where the homes end.

I'm from here so I'm partial. It's quiet ( away from the schools ) and it's artsy and governy. LOL. I cannot say real estate prices are "cheaper" than central or south Florida. With covid, inventory is so low now that prices are goofy high. Tallahassee also has finite amount of houses for sale at any given time, folks who want them ( because of jobs and educational opportunities ) will pay whatever they cost. We were so lucky, we found a foreclosure near Maclay ( yay ) and at retirement age we are finally living the lower crime dream we worked so long for.

3 of my kids went to college in Tally (getting ready to move my 4th down in a few weeks) . I've come to really love this charming town. Very, very friendly, I love the old architecture, lots of historical brick homes/buildings and moss trees line the streets. You have a very college town feel near the campuses , but just a little beyond are some very modern, clean upper class neighborhoods. As big as it is - it has a very cozy - small town feel. Tons of shopping - an hours drive to some very nice beaches.Of course I worried with my first kid moving there from Central FL concerning safety (being a city and all) but, like I said I've really come to love it!!!! Another hit. You are right on about Tallahassee looking like DC, my home town, with those leafy trees that look like oak trees. Never thought there was that kind of shade in Florida, the sunshine state! Nice place for R&R and taking in the quiet vibes and history. We are doomed to repeat the same mistakes when we don't know history. You connect with nature always on your walks in Miami. I appreciate your narration of what you see. I will see this town thanks to you, some day. I love history of each place I visit. Some of the best places are not the huge tourist attractions. That was way cool for what it was. A nice contrast to what we think Florida is, all vibrant, crowded, noisy, and palm trees. Variety and differences really can spice things up.

I did make contact with an organization that does the same line of work I do in Ohio and they said my timing was impeccable because they have someone retiring and are excited to meet me...so hopefully that will still be the case when I arrive. Tally is South Georgia more than Florida really. More "Southern" and friendly to my mind. Yeah, students aren't there like usual because of Covid otherwise you'd see more traffic. You are within easy driving range of a lot of natural beauty. Love the live oak trees. Tallahassee's biggest issue for me is summer is brutal -- you aren't getting those Gulf Stream breezes like in South Florida.
@thedirtybubble9613
@thedirtybubble9613 3 года назад
Huh? You get a Gulf breeze in Tallahassee. Also, it rains more here in the summer than it does in South FL so that cools it down tremendously. I have lived in both Tallahassee and Miami. IMO the heat is way more brutal in Miami because it's in the tropics and the humidity makes it feel like hell on earth. That and it's never ending unrelentless heat that lasts 9 months. No thank you. Tallahassee's biggest issue is the airport here flat out sucks.

An outgoing kid in his/her early to mid twenties that moved from their hometown of Miami/Ft Lauderdale area would be bored to tears and in a bit of culture shock as his English would be put to regular use and he'll need to actually own a jacket and even on occasion (albeit few and far between..usually...BUT DEFINITELY can be used between 2 to over 10 times between late fall/early Spring.. depending on the severity of the winter season) break out scarves, gloves and long johns as overcast, damp, windy "SEATTLELIKE" days can occur with temps staying in the 40's ALL DAY... Although not common..every few Winters highs in the 30's even occur from time to time. Even St Augustine's normal Winter highs in low to mid 60s as nd lows in lower to mid 40's would chill a Miami Native to the bone as those are about the coldest Miami (exceptions have and do occur.. of course) normally gets a few times each winter.
