None of these people ever raise the question, what is stopping Muslims from handing over these sites without any disputes? I'm sure Hindus will gladly pay any costs to archeologically shift these mosques to a new site. They can have their mosque, we can get our temples back and communal harmony maintained.

Every temple has yearly festival/ jaatre, where people from the surrounding villages gather for 2-3 days. This guy lives in Karnataka. He knows what jaatres are. Even Bengaluru city has the yearly Karaga festival.

MK Gandhi was called Hindu secular in British India. Ram was always on the Gandhi's tongue. Mr Guha says that Hinduism does not aim for congregation. Largest religious congregation of the world is Kumbh. I am sure Mr Guha is a good historian, but seems like he is a biased theologian. Temples were, and in small towns across India still are, centres of buissness activities. Hindus in every nook and corner of India congregate at temples to pray everyday. The whole discussion was idiosyncratic. A prime example of how in India seemingly educated individuals discuss theology without understanding even an iota of it.

Ram Mandir is not a symbol of Hindu triumpulism. It is a symbol of Hindu resilience. Mr Guha is a historian of Communist bent. Hence, he may not know that there were cases filed by the Hindus during the British time. There were historians in the 17th century who recorded Hindus coming to Sarayu, taking a dip et cetera. The Muslim side too called it masjid-e-janmstan. Obviously everyone knows who was born there. Yet Guha chooses to ignore all of these facts to push an agenda…
For the benefit of your audience, I think, I should bring out the following facts: 1 The birth place of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) continues to be a small library in Mekha. 2 The place where divine knowledge was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad PBUH remains a cave named Ghare Hira, with out escalators and lifts and even with out a Mosque in Mecca. 3 All the documented historical sights of Islam in Saudi Arabia and other places still remain with out Mosques and are identified by sign boards.
But what was the need to destroy temples and bury idols inside the steps of the mosques in India? Your claims are inconsistent if you look at Islamic architecture in India, they demolished temples as a symbol of victory of Islam, If I have to give one example, Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik apologized to "Muslims all over the world" for the defeat in wordcup final in 2007 from the infidel country like India, but actually Irfan Pathan was our man of the match, but Malik decided to make this match as holy war of Islam.

Just heartbreaking.....I too was in Delhi during the Ayodhya movement. Both my school and college fellow students were loudly for the BJP, the Rath Yatra, the Ram Mandir and brazenly Islamophobic. My family were vocal secularists and being jeered at for this was a regular motif of my student life. I remember one day when the Geography teacher and many students - including one who is a secular politician today - really turning on me for saying something against Hindutva. Those were the days of the Sadhvi Ritambra tapes. The only hopeful fact is that many of these fellow students went abroad to study or work and came back as liberals. Some even married Muslims. Some have rained rabid Sanghis. But I have seen that people do change their minds......but now Modi is no longer relying on the middle class, the whole movement is now working with young thugs of the type you see in their bikes during the Kawar yatra....so.....not very encouraging......
I just read on the news today that the Congress Party will be attending the function at Ayodhya. It is absolutely disgraceful. I feel so betrayed. What did we fight for all these years? Gandhi would weep. Today I feel it was all in vain. Shame. Shame on India. Shame on Hindus.
Dr Guha talked with a lot of conviction as a liberal Gandhian democrat. His concerns are valid for a highly diverse country like India where politicians spread venom using lumpen elements. But there is a glimmer of hope in the people, diversity, and ever changing life irrespective of the political machinations: Ram is not the god of all; not all would go gaga over his temple even if they are taken on a free pilgrimage trip to Ayodhya; Many cannot give up their other gods for Ram. Ultimately, people's sufferings, social or economic and psychological, takeover forcing them even to despise their ardent gods who cannot help them really. Those who led this bigoted religious movement in the past or present are petty men; even Gandhi could not prevail over people. As Basava said only rich can build big temples, for such permanent structures are bound to decay like all other other temples built in history.
