*Please, my God, if Tame Impala knows all the talent and doesn't forget Nelly Furtado, why do we? Nelly gave us one of the best albums of the past decade, we should get it out again in its heyday*
My brain is barely processing this, I used to LOVE this song as a kid and only recently heard of Tame Impala. And this meshing of times just.... exists????
Fun story: This cover got me into my current relationship Well, this kind of sparked what would lead to our relationship, but we were working at the same retail store and they were playing Nelly Furtado's original version. I looked over at who would be my current partner and saw her bobbing her head to the original and I told her, "Tame Impala's got a pretty dope cover of this song". I would get her number and send her the cover and it eventually led to us dating for 6+ months now :) Thanks, Tame Impala.
Say it Right was extremely prominent in my childhood, I loved Timbaland growing up as well as Furtado. Tame Impala has been prominent in my life for the last few years so it’s a nice blend. This is so good oh my lord!
I used to work in a huge mall years ago and Say It Right was one of the songs on the mall's playlist. It would blast out on the blown out old speakers into a cavernous room, creating a ton of natural reverb. I used to think Say It Right actually kinda shown through that environment, I liked the way it sounded and always imagined a psychedelic or shoegazy cover of it would be amazing. Thank you for finally delivering, Tame Impala!
Such an interesting comment which says alot about the production value. Timbaland stated they used moving microphones that rotated in full circles when recording the live Strings on Say It Right. Its probably what helped alot to create that ambience and reverb you mentioned.
I was still a kid when this song came out, but the people I partied with in my teens liked putting 2000s songs at the parties so I have to say you're absolutely right
i'm gonna cry. MY FAVORITE BAND COVERING MY FAVORITE SONG EVER! there is something so atmospherical about timbaland beats and production overall. it matched so perfectly with kevin arrangement, great choice OMG.
In the day In the night Say it right Say it all You either got it Or you don't You either stand or you fall When your will is broken When it slips from your hand When there's no time for joking There's a hole in the plan Oh, you don't mean nothing at all to me No, you don't mean nothing at all to me But you got what it takes to set me free Oh, you could mean everything to me I can't say that, I'm not lost and at fault I can't say that, I don't love the light and the dark I can't say that, I don't know that I am alive And all of what I feel I could show You tonight you tonight Oh you don't mean nothing at all to me No you don't mean nothing at all to me But you got what it takes to set me free Oh you could mean everything to me From my hands, I could give you Something that I made From my mouth, I could sing you another brick that I laid From my body, I could show you a place God knows You should know the space is holy Do you really want to go?
As much as I love tame impala.. the Michael jackson thriller cover they did years back was kinda of shitty. Kevin was having a difficult time hitting the notes. But i will say for the most covers they’ve done they sounded crazy good.
