I used to struggle with painful, inflamed cystic acne as a result of my IUD, and it was a tip from Susan that actually transformed my skin. I was absolutely terrified to stop washing my skin in the morning, but it’s changed everything. Apparently my skin is more sensitive than I thought, and I was over stripping just by cleansing, and it was totally unnecessary. I do a full routine at night now, but just a water rinse, moisturizer and SPF in the morning now and my skin has improved a ton. So even if many aestheticians disagree, I really think you’re right to say that skincare is personal.
@jazzys4390
@jazzys4390 4 года назад
Omg I thought it was all in my head, but I had normal skin all my life (I literally used to wash my face with bar soap and do nothing else) but ever since my IUD I have struggled with cystic acne and dry skin, which is an awful combo.

Juliana Fotin depends on the kind and the person (as with anything) but hormonal IUDs release hormones which can overstimulate oil glands, and this sometimes can result in acne, particularly cystic acne.

When Susan said coconut oil shouldn't even be used for haircare, I imagined half a billion Indian women being like 'whaaaaaaaaaaat!!" Indian women have been using coconut oil as a nourishing hair mask for centuries. I dont know any Indian woman (living in India) who hasn't or doesn't use coconut hair oil. I used it in my early growing years in India. They swear by it.

I use coconut oil for scalpmassage combined with castor oil and sage and rosemary essential oil (just a hint, it's supposed to be diluted well), because I had problems with an itchy scalp and hair loss due to some hairproducts I used in the past. I do it for years now and I love it.

I am white and my bf is Indian. I used coconut oil in my hair because he said it’s good for the hair and it made my hair flat and greasy for days, even though I didn’t apply it on the roots and after a few hours I washed it out with lots of shampoo. So, I think coconut oil works for thick and dry hair, but for my straight and medium fine hair it is a disaster.

So true, I am an Indian and I use coconut oil for my hair and its amazing, my hair are long shiny and smooth i was shocked when she said that, it should not be used for hair as well uffff.I think this is just a marketing tricks to make us believe that, it’s not good for us. I understand, it’s not good for face but, u can remove your eye makeup with it even if u have oily skin. I don’t agree with suzan this time. And for hair ,Coconut oil can Encourage hair growth - Due to the composition of organic Coconut Oil, it will help to bind to the protein in hair and protect both the roots and strands of hair from breakage. Repair damaged hair - Organic Coconut Oil is said to be extremely effective in preventing protein loss which will help to repair damaged hair. And it can do so much for normal skin people it has so many benefits. We have tried and tested this from ages.

@@platosfriend, how did you use the coconut oil? I find the method is important. If I apply it on wet hair and/or keep it on for a couple of hours only, my hair hates it and gets greasy. My friends advised me to apply it on dry hair and sleep with it, then wash my hair in the morning. My hair loves that every now and then.

I turned 27 4 days ago and I’ve had awful acne on my cheeks and chin for about 3 years now. I was over exfoliating and dehydrating my skin badly without really realizing it. I went to the Derm a month ago and she never recommended me use sun screen or even moisturizer. I’ve always used moisturizer but never sun screen and I was exfoliating twice a day sometimes chemical sometimes physical. I have used the retinol and antibiotics that she called me in. However I knew that would be way to much for my skin so I have swapped everything to CeraVe and bought the great barrier relief that I use at night. I use the retinol every other night. I massage my skin 1 time a week with rosehip oil. I also now wear a sunscreen and stopped scrubs. My skin has never looked better. I love brand reviews and I love your reactions but your deep in depth videos have helped me more then anything! Your amazing! ❤️

I don't personally use coconut oil on my face because it's comedogenic and I already get acne but coconut oil is used in certain cultures and has been for a long time and works for those people. Also there are a couple of studies that have shown some evidence that coconut oil can be helpful for people with eczema and psoriasis. I think you do a good job of always stressing that it works for some people but I am not sure the commenters always get that. In various countries coconut is used in the diet and beauty and works for people really well.

Isabella i use an eye makeup remover (for waterproof mascara) first, put enough of it into a cotton pad, hold it onto my eye for a couple of seconds and then gently remove my eyemakeup. I also gently rub around the lashline, so i get absolutely everything off. And then I start to remove my face makeup. This method works fine. I very very rarely wake up with mascara left on my eyes. Also, when I say "rubbing gently" i mean doing like little circle-ish movements without actually moving or rubbing around.

Having been off sugar for months, I had a slice of pie and a sugary side at Thanksgiving. The next morning my fingers were stiff and my joints ached. Not a lot, but obviously more than I had felt for the months prior. So (sadly) no sugar for me if I want to feel good...which, when you do feel good you want keep that going. Coconut oil isn't inherently organic. The term organic governs the way a plant is cultured. If pesticides etc. are used, it is not organic.

luxe ford thanks for this post. At least for foods, to be labeled organic (in the US) they have to go through a certification process; it’s regulated. I think Susan really means to say “natural” which doesn’t really mean anything lol. Not exactly sure how that works for formulates beauty products though

I have tried so many vitamin c serums and they break me out every single time! I’ve just come to accept my skin just doesn’t like it. So sad, I want a bright face too!!

I had this issue with high levels of vitamin c but when I started using 5% or lower, I noticed I didn’t have the issue any longer. You may have tried this already but I just figured I’d mention it! :)

I feel you, vitamin C serums arent for everyone :( for some reason I never experienced any positive results either. But I have really loved using AHAs to get the bright/glowy look! (Currently loving Krave Beauty's Kalelalu AHA toner) Would recommend an AHA if you havent tried it already

I switched to a vitamin c serum that has a mid ground level of vitamin c and also does not have vitamin E..it bums me because it’s a great moisturizer but it breaks me out horribly. I went that way and I can use vitamin c serum now.

I disagree on coconut oil, it’s been used in India from ages. It has lot of benefits. There is a state in India called Kerala, they use the coconut oil religiously. Coconut Oil help improve the skin symptoms, as well as moisturise the sensitive skin. Plus, coconut oil doesn't contain added chemicals or perfumes and it smells delicious! coconut oil is safe for dry and flaking skin. It has natural anti-germ properties that may help treat minor skin infections. This is why it’s is often added to soaps, shampoos, and moisturizers. What’s the big deal about the coconut oil, I just don’t get it. Its been used in India since ancient times. In Ayurveda, coconut oil plays a very important role. Just my two cents 😊😊

On the coconut oil thing, I have to respectfully disagree with the idea that it's 'not good' for the skin. It's not a moisturiser (but then again, oils aren't anyway, as a moisturiser by definition is something which imparts moisture to the skin and keeps it there, often an emulsion of water and oil), and it's not anything special, and there are oils with more benefits than coconut oil buttt it's not bad for the skin per se (which some oils, such as olive oil, can be) and does have its place. Neat coconut oil on the face is generally a bad idea as it does have a high comedogenicity rating. If you're going to use it as an oil cleanser then you've got to ensure your second cleanse is top notch and it's best to opt for fractionated coconut oil. However, in wash-off products for the hair, it can have a place, especially for v. curly hair e.g. Type 3C, Type 4. In wash-off or mask-type products for the scalp, it has a notable place clinically for flaky scalp conditions such as psoriasis, where it can be found in commonly prescribed treatments such as Capasal shampoo, and Cocois or Sebco ointments. For the body, although it's really nothing too special, it is a very good emollient and occlusive agent which makes a great alternative to petroleum jelly on its own (for people who are concerned about the environmental impact of the oil industry, for example), or as an alternative to WSP and liquid paraffin in cosmetic formulations. Of course, it's hella greasy. I have psoriasis and, apart from in shampoo and conditioner or very very lightweight body lotions/gel creams, I can't tolerate it in the summer. However, in winter I use it most days on the body as an occlusive, generally after showering and before bed, and my psoriasis nurse is very much on-board with this usage, as are many dermatologists. Even then, I avoid it for my face, even as a beard oil, and would recommend avoiding using it as a hair oil unless you have quite long hair or very dry hair.

Well said. A lot of people with my skin and hair type (dry/dehydrated skin with type 3b/3c hair) often have success with coconut oil. I find it disappointing that Susan Yara is making this generalization that coconut oil is not good for the skin. Unless she has a lot of experience/knowledge with people with type 3/4 hair with extremely dry skin, I don’t think she can responsibly say that we should not use it.

Personally I love using Coconut oil/baby oil to remove my makeup because it takes it off super easily and my actual cleanser is deep enough that it takes off the extra oil anyway. It’s cheap af and I just don’t want to spend extra money on a cleansing balm that I’m just gonna wash off. My skin is fine with it!

Eh, unless you have insanely oily skin no one is going to understand what it’s like. I use moisturizers however I don’t buy into the whole oil on top of oil situation. No hate.

I remember doing a DIY hair mask with coconut oil. I had and continue to have really bad dandruff so I would literally try anything. And I ended up having to shampoomy hair 4 times because I couldn't get the oil out. I also didn't notice any change to my dandruff.

What about doing a reaction video of someone a little more mature like Elon musks mother. I thought she was so funny and gorgeous. I was so surprised to see just how simple her routine was. It was just so refreshing to see someone in her age looking amazing and talking about what she did back in the day not having all the many products we have available today. PS: your skin is on fire 🔥!! Come on, just look at you!!!! Can’t stop staring. Now you’re just messing with me. You do know you just had baby number two right?! QUESTION!!!! I’ve started using recommended products: Cerave , Adapalene (prescribed). My skin texture has progressively gotten better. HOWEVER,,,, my break outs have gotten worse, and my redness and skin tone has gotten worse. Although my dermatologist didn’t tell me this, I’ve concluded that I have fungal acne and will be taking different measures to remove that. The white bumps underneath (fungal acne) did get momentarily worse, like I purged around my chin area. I did a 20 minute oil cleanse last night and that seemed to miraculously take some of the fungal acne away. My cerave does have salicylic acid and I’m thinking too many actives ( sa at night and adapalene at night), is causing the discoloration and break outs. But over all the texture has gotten better 🥴 my dermatologist did say that “spot treatment” “doesn’t work” and to apply all over my face. So help from anyone lol. Ty. Should I stick to this or no... is this a given and will it get better....
@brooke2859
@brooke2859 4 года назад
Brisel Hi! I personally would say to stick with what your dermatologist told you. I personally got advice from one about treatment and I didn’t follow it after a week or so because I didn’t see any results. I then stuck with it for a while and I actually saw results. Remember that good things take time!

Is it too hard for people to use a Q-tip with micelar water on it and then rub gently their eye lashes from bottom to top in order to get the extra makeup(mascara) off? ... I don’t understand why people use makeup wipes or coconut oil!
