I'm with you as far as collecting parts for the upcoming project, big part of the fun. The shopping, the waiting, the postman, the bin of parts building up. Great point! Also, I can very much relate to your struggles during these builds. My next body will be better after watching this, you've inspired me!
At the time the AVANTE came out it was engineering brilliance , followed by the VANQUISH and TOP FORCE. Happy to say that I picked up both versions. Thanks for sharing.
Using a heat gun or really good hair dryer to shape the decals before setting them will stop the dreaded wrinkles. Watch a video about doing body wrap and cut the decals before peeling them so they can be shaped. The car looks great! Thanks for the video
Uncanny!. I feel exactly the same way. The most exciting bit for me is shopping for a kit, getting all the bits to make it how I want it and looking on the club for inspiration with colours and mods etc. It’s not even the build really. I like assembling most of it but dislike doing shocks and diffs. Once the kit is assembled I will run it around a few times and then most likely sell it and move onto the next project only keeping cars that I really really love.
Got To Hand It to You Glen , Your a Tamiya Kit Builders Magician by far the best Looker -im in love what a Joy To Look at bud, just great always love your builds and it gives me joy and inspires me to reach out and try new builds and re-builds myself ,first being the second hand but new Brat,i bought so cant wait for more great Kit Builds from You at Tamiya Legends - Cheers from Down Under ;-)
Pretty fantastic car, friend! Personally, box art is a lost art on me! Im happy with a couple colors, maybe a few numbers, and done. No patience for that. Stickers take finesse, and finesse I dont got! Great vid, as always, thanks for what you do!
you are like me i hate it when there's a tiny imperfection, but honestly it looks great, black and silver with red looks awesome, might have to get one of these Avantes. my cars are road cars, but iam looking at getting off-road. nice little car.
Fantastic machines Glenn mate this community is awesome I was helping some one out I sent somebody some Hornet parts to Canada a couple of weeks ago how much for a postage they said not a problem no worries I'll just send it mate. Great video as usual🤟👍🇬🇧👊😊😎
I love looking thru internet old tamiya catalog mom and pop hobby shops not franchised dreaming about cars I didn't get when they were available I wish tamiya would prerelease some on road tl01 kits I'm really leaning towards a big wig or tamiya avante from horizon hobby site here in the states another great review
Looks awesome! Except the pink wheels! They should be a brushed aluminum to go with the silver on the body!!! Just my opinion of course. Keep up the great work mate! Cheers!
I've found myself slowly getting addicted to your channel ! We are of a similar age and my first RC car was a Grasshopper. I know want to revisit my youth ! My mate had a Hotshot and I was always insanely jealous so I'm looking at either a Super Hotshot or I now really want an Avante as they look awesome. What should I go for ? Good luck with the channel bud. I'm a also a RU-vidr but with full size cars 😜
@TAMIYA Legends That's what I thought. Apparently your favourite Tamiya car ever 😜 Not sure where I heard that ?! Or is it the Grasshopper ? Or maybe the Supershot ? Or maybe the FAV ? 😂😂😂
I felt like you were working really hard on that one Glenn! You seemed a bit flat by the end of it. Looks great though and you’ll be pumped with it once she’s all finished up.
I went the opposite way around on mine, bought a B.S to convert into a regular Avante, so I bought another genuine shell. I ended up doing sort of a hybrid, Candy blue shell using PS-38 and backed it in Core RC true chrome and went with gold MCI black special decals to hide the blemishes in the paint.
Done something very similar. Running the purple anodized paint and Black Special decal set from MCI, but made some changes to those as well. Swapped yellow for Mirror finish gold, and Metallic Silver for Mirror finish silver. Intense blue got changed to Brushed metal Cyan and Red became Brushed metal Red. Probably the most expensive decal set I've ever purchased for a Tamiya lol.
Oh man, I trully felt your frustration regarding the TBG body. I had the same exact experience and have never used TBG since. The money you save wasn't worth the headache for me.
I'm with you the avante is the best tamiya rc ever and probably the best looking rc buggy ever made👍I'm thinking of selling all my other buggies and just buying avante's😍 when I was building my batch 2 black avante I noticed different materials that the ball connectors etc were made of alloy instead of brass like what was in the black avante first batch? Excellent video again👍
@TAMIYA Legends Now you've said that I can hear it ! I'm from Nottingham originally so knew it was north but just could place it 😂 Keep up the good work. Love your builds. You must have a unhealthy number of Tamiya cars 😂
Thanks buddy the channel is really struggling unfortunately, six weeks ago I was averaging 6k views per video, now I’m struggling to hit 2k 🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️ Not great with well over 15k subs 🤔
Put the silver nuts back or it will trigger another expensive bout of blue annodism!!!:) masking the shell on the outside with a different colour tape might help to align masking on the inside
Couldn’t you spray the outside of the window mask, to make it easier to see . I have a frog TBG body that doesn’t fit properly and now I know what the problem is . As far as the decals go little mistakes and imperfections give the buggy character. It’s a hand made work of art . The buggy looks great and another great video. I hate the ball diffs too .
Great job! Never really had a thing for Avantes until watching your channel. Have a BS still in the box and plan on getting a 2011 when rereleased. I must admit to some diff confusion with these cars...torque splitter/locked diff etc. Do you think with the steering upgrade, the 2011 is the better brasher?
Always liked the look of the Avante. To be honest, I simply couldn't own one today. I wouldn't have the patience to paint and try to decal that body. Looks good overall although I'm not a fan of the pink with this particular car but that's just me. I know you were trying to stick to more of a box art appearance however I was wondering how that wing might look with say a carbon fiber decal applied to it prior to applying the Avante badging?
Thanks Harry, yes this is actually only part one of this project, in the next video I changed a few things. I’ll be interested to hear what you think to it buddy 😎👊🏻
The TBG bodies are smaller by a good 5mm. My FOX body i measured and showed the difference on FB page of theirs. They didnt really have much to say about it unfortunately.
Like it a lot but one question .... are erm 'proper pants' worse than 'pans' :) sorry mate but that did make me chuckle, intrigued by the thought of part 2 though, take care buddy.
Cool project. You shouldn't mess with a repro body when an original one is widely available and quite cheap. That would have saved you a lot of trouble ;-) Seems the TBG avante is as bad as the avante 2001 I tossed away.
You are still to stubborn to use the water method for the stickers? ;-) You're making it so much harder for yourself :D Cool build as always though! :)
I have all the MCI decals to turn my Black Spcl into a 2001, won't get the original white wheels, Oh, snap, I acquired the white disc set in hand, with dual block tires, Technical topic could be the mystery of the types of diffs and what they do.
Just watching again, just an observation you do know you used all the wrong colours on the driver 🤦♂️😆 supposed to be mat blue, semi gloss black and gun metal. Yours looks good though 👍
Looking for a Hornet eh? I got a pair in a lot I purchased recently. Not sure if both are original or if one is a re-re, but one definitely caught on fire once. Not to mention one of the shells was never painted and is totally thrashed. All in all though, there's one good Hornet there. I've taken more interest in the other cars though, I've yet to throw electronics in it. ("restored" my dad's old Super Hornet, and turned a Stadium Blitzer in to a Jeep Trophy truck). If you're interested, I am more than willing to part with the Hornet bits, especially if you have any DT-02 bits for me ;) I wanna turn this Sand Viper in to a MS.
Hey you need to bloviate you should watch mine videos on what think of a company traffic car after two years end making it difficult to find parts for it. Easier find Tamiya parts after something's been discontinued for the car I bloviate about.
