best looking of the TL01 buggy, like Tamiya was going for an RC10 look, a clear wing on that would look nice if you can find one

I’d buy both the Baja King and Baja Champ if Tamiya re-released them. I like how they look.
@RCACTIONAUSTRALIA

They are an RC buggy that grows on you. Pretty solid and reliable. Also parts are still being made and are cheap to buy.

I’d like Tamiya to rerelease these as well, and come out with a blue alloy centre prop shaft

Nice, I didn't know this car until yet. It had it's time, when I builded RC boats. But I'm now interest to add one to my collection. 26 ball bearings is very astonishing. Don't think the Avante has that number.
@RCACTIONAUSTRALIA
@RCACTIONAUSTRALIA 3 года назад
Yeah most Kits would have say 18 bearings these days. Awesome kit if you can get one 😎

I’ve got the wrx tl01 with all the hop ups sport tuned gears ect runs great never had a problem. Always felt a TL01 chassis has a better centre of gravity than day the TT01. Oh don’t forget to paint your race trucks wheels red centre’s 😝😝
@RCACTIONAUSTRALIA
@RCACTIONAUSTRALIA 3 года назад
Ha! I’m not 100% sold on painting the tiny parts of the trucks rims! Yes I have the 99 wrx TL01 new built in a box in my collection. I agree the TL01 weight balance is fantastic. I’ve got a TL01 with all the hop ups also and it’s a fantastic runner.

The Baja King /Champ look decent like a proper buggy never owned one, or these chassis simply because if i need to get to the front gearbox i would have to dismantle a fair bit first, you got a good deal there Adam especially with those rare spire spike tyres lol.
@RCACTIONAUSTRALIA
@RCACTIONAUSTRALIA 3 года назад
Thanks Paul. Yes definitely a little tricky to access Gearbox. But once you own afew of these you workout short cuts to get into the gearboxes etc. definitely a nice find.

How funny, 2 weeks ago I also purchased myself a used Baja King with box. It came with a steering servo and fully ballraced, but without motor /esc for 48 euros. :D

I had a Baja champ with some upgrades tamiya oil shocks ball raced quick release battery holder adjustable tierods tamiya RZ motor aluminium shaft.. Handles great. Will go wherever you point it. Doesn't jump vert well though .
@RCACTIONAUSTRALIA
@RCACTIONAUSTRALIA 3 года назад
Yeah I find it’s an awesome runner, but definitely not a Buggy you send off jumps as it can be heavy. But adding a Lipo saves a lot of weight over a Nimh
@Mini-z1994
@Mini-z1994 3 года назад
They are alright runners, specially with a brushless combo in them on a 2s lipo, like 4300 kv on 2s lipo moves pretty well. Bit tall gear ratio on them though along with the chassis halves not sealing properly, at least the hbx max buggy i had didnt, so it lets in dust in through the bottom over time unless you tape it along the underside completely, shock tower plastic is also a bit on the brittle side.
@RCACTIONAUSTRALIA
@RCACTIONAUSTRALIA 3 года назад
Yeah I believe the Hbx copies are pretty poor quality. Yes my Baja champ was mental on the brushless and Lipo combo! Yeah agree the shock towers can become brittle after time.

I've got one of the dumb old Baja king clones, bit of a wreck atm but I can probs get her working again
@RCACTIONAUSTRALIA
@RCACTIONAUSTRALIA 3 года назад
Yeah, I had one of the clones awhile back and it was definitely lower quality than the real tamiya, gears and plastics were brittle. Good news is you can always rebuild yours with Tamiya parts 😎

Would love to have one of thoose Baja Kings, they look cool. Seems like you did a really good deal on the one you found.

I definitely got a great price on it. It was an eBay Auction, and I think people looked past it due to it being a TL01

picked up some one way diffs for my TA03's and now TL01's I see they are compatible
@RCACTIONAUSTRALIA
@RCACTIONAUSTRALIA Год назад
Yes compatible and probably best used in the rear gearbox
@lrmbvv

@@RCACTIONAUSTRALIA oh, interesting, got TA03's, they are sort of a pain with the belt/belt tension tuning issues/ parts, TL01, seem easier to deal with.

I never liked these when l first saw them because l felt they were a poor effort by tamiya compared with the previous 4wd buggies produced! I do realise they are more for beginners but they just did not do it for me! But l have definitely changed my opinion these days!👍I actually really like the looks of them now especially the King and probably more then the champ too! and as you said Adam the chassis is good and these make good solid runners! The King is definitely on my to get list! Nice colour yours too and shocks match up nicely 😉👍 I should add a few years has passed since they were first released and that makes the deal a whole lot sweeter! Cheers James.
@RCACTIONAUSTRALIA
@RCACTIONAUSTRALIA 3 года назад
Yes they are definitely a cool RC. Parts are easy to get and are cheap, plus they still seem to be made by Tamiya. I have picked up afew parts trees and Chassis over the years as i do have afew TL01 based cars.

its a good car but u will find if u run it on dirt u will find that all the steering will lock up because dirt will get into your links ( i have the same as you) and u wont be able to move over time and the front gear box too u will find it gets into it all so as for on road its great car goes fast as well handle well if u upgrade the shocks i put cva on my one but i change the spring to a bigger size one where do u find someone to paint the body? in australia
@RCACTIONAUSTRALIA
@RCACTIONAUSTRALIA 3 года назад
Yeah most Tamiya kits end up with dirt in. I’ve never had huge problems with dirt etc.. but I definitely don’t go dirt bashing often. I’m not sure of any pro painters for RC bodies in OZ.

Very interesting video Adam - a Tamiya kit that I know little about as I my collection mostly comprises re-releases of Tamiya’s first 100 buggies. Out of curiosity, have you experienced brittle plastics when purchasing and working on older Tamiya kits? Do you run ‘vintage’ cars like this or just display them for fear of breakages?
@RCACTIONAUSTRALIA
@RCACTIONAUSTRALIA 3 года назад
I run all of my cars. But I definitely take it easy on the older ones. I usually pick up parts and keep them in storage for most of my kits. The TL01B is definitely a forgotten about Chassis

Hate to see any road rash on the TTO1 truck. Now for the Baja King...just not that appealing even with the upgrades. Maybe is very good for entry level.

TL01 & TL01B are exactly the same, obviously The B has longer arms and is the buggy version. The TL01 was a widely used onroad chassis
