Hiya, Mick! Great build video, mate - I really enjoyed building my Terra Scorcher version of this chassis. Yours will look awesome when finished and that body fitted. Have fun, mate! :)
G'day Mark. Thanks mate. Hopefully my video wasn't too boring for you, since you already know the chassis. 🙂 I hope so mate, still can't decide on a motor. Might just close my eyes and point randomly at a motor lol. You too mate, have a great weekend! 👍
@@RCHobbyShed No - definitely not boring! I really enjoy seeing how my friends do their builds and how it's presented to the viewer. Always something new to learn, that's the beauty of this hobby. And who gets fed up of a Tamiya build?!?!?! Just watched your unboxing video - I got an RX too! As for the motor, put the fastest one in it, my Terra is painfully slow with the stock motor! Cheers, mate, a great weekend to you too.
Ah that's good then 🙂. Me too mate, always interesting to see other peoples builds. Exactly, Tamiya builds are always fun! Oh yeah, I plan to leave the stock motor out of the RX, I've yet to decide which motor I'll run but I also think it needs to be fast. Will do mate, thanks! 👍
No probs Jon, glad you enjoyed it. Yeah they look like they can handle some rough stuff. Since I'm still undecided on the motor, maybe I will go brushless and see what it can take. 😁👍
You need to be a bit careful though the A5 part - front arms brace - is a known weak point. But there are 2 options a metal brace or the TL01 e-clip pins.
Hey Mick, nice vid. Its a lovely build this one, I enjoyed building mine. After I finished the shell & decals I figured the red wasn't bright enough so masked it up & backed it in white, much nicer! Maybe consider this before you take the backing off, unlike me! Lol
G'day Nick. Thanks, glad you enjoyed the video. Great idea mate! After looking at it again I agree it really does need to be backed with white. I'll be doing that for sure! 👊👍
That's actually a pretty cool looking buggy, it has a space vehicle sort of a style about it. I like your parts containers with the decals on them👌. It was nice to sit back and watch someone else do all the work for a change haha. I picked up a couple of good build tricks from your video, thanks for sharing mate🥇👍🦘🇦🇺
Yeah I think so too mate, maybe this is where they got the idea for the Mars Rover lol. Thanks mate, the containers are handy. I took the letter decals off Kyosho parts bags, so I just empty the parts bags into the right tubs and I can move them whenever I need to with forgetting which tub is what. Hopefully it wasn't too boring lol Glad you got something from it mate, there wasn't a lot of tips I could pass on with this one as it's a pretty straight forward build. 👍
@@RCHobbyShed Definitely a top idea with the parts containers, at least I can pack the build away without forgetting what's what👌. I think it was a great build vid, really looking forward to seeing the finished space vehicle👍
@@RCHobbyShed Nooooo don't do that!!!..... Tamiya kits are too hard to find as it is without people sending them into space!. It might get sucked into the hydrostatic delapidator relief valve of a space crafts jet engine and cause it to crash down on my hobby room😳 Dead set I talk rubbish🥴🤣
I want to build mine but I’ve been waiting for a clear body to be available so I can paint the body blue or black . But after watching you build it I don’t think I’m going to be able to wait 😂
Nice work Mick, this one looks a lot different. Seems like a nice little beast , can't wait to see how this goes. We've got 6 boats to try out, all very nice ones to. Wife got a beautiful TFL pursuit, so nice I had to get one ha,ha, put up a big shelf in the spare room and it's full already so the wife goes and orders the new Arrma Vortex and a tfl rocket. She's as bad as me , ha,ha,
@@RCHobbyShed ha,ha, you're not wrong and I'm trying hard not to look at Tamiyas. Those are very addictive and the kyosho stuff to. Have to have a few beers and a fire to burn all the dam rc boxes . Won't fit in the recycling bin ha,ha,
@@petergoodwin2465 Lol I wish I could have fires here. Same as you, I have a tonne of boxes too. Mine are filling up the trailer since the recycle bin can't keep up. 😂
Nice one Mick! Got a Fire Dragon in post. Hopefully arrives before easter weekend so I can get building. Great to have a build along video in case I run into trouble. Question on the notorious A5 part. Is it really that bad? I've read a lot about how people just upgrade that with an aluminum part straight away or strengthen it with some shim type parts. Noticed you just left it as is.
Thanks mate! Oh nice, they're a really fun buggy. I haven't found the A5 part to be much of an issue at all really. If you saw my running video of the Fire Dragon at the BMX track you'll know I wasn't driving too carefully lol. I think a lot of the talk about the A5 part comes from people running vintage buggies and the old plastics are cracking. That said, I have done A5 upgrades on other cars with this chassis, just in case. I say, if you can afford the upgrade then go for it. If not, wait n see how it goes. Good luck! 👍
@@RCHobbyShed thanks for the tip mate - no point spending money on upgrading A5 until/if it breaks. I'm not racing or thrashing the cars (just a fun park bash) so should be ok for my purposes.
Thanks! I think I'd go for the Thunder Shot, purely because I think they look better. Performance wise, there's really not much (if any) difference as they're essentially the same apart from the Thunder Shot having the single front shock. 👍
Yeah it moves nice and smooth, maybe that will change after a run but it's good for now. Just an idea, are you sure the spacer and washers are in the right places on the input shaft?
I can't believe these are still being sold! Does it have retro appeal or something? I had mine about 33 years ago as a kid when they first came out. In fact it is basically the even older Thunder Dragon but with two front shocks instead of one.
This one is the 2020 the re-release. Yeah, for me it has retro appeal. Same as the Thunder Dragon, it's one I wanted when I was younger but couldn't afford. 👍
She looks a sturdy thing! Liking the video editing Mick, very enjoyable to watch your build 👍🏻. Have you managed to make a start upgrading your shed roof yet 😜?
It does, I'm now thinking a want one with a Boomerang body 🤔 Thanks Owen, I often do my build videos in a similar style. Hopefully not too boring. Haha, I haven't finished the walls yet. Had some rain so I can't move things outside to make space. That's my excuse. 🤣👍
@@RCHobbyShed I had a Terra Scorcher back in the day. And I remember we were always looking for some harder suspension arms. It is also said that that A5 part was a weak point. Altough I can't remember I ever broke one. Rcmart, Pargu and others has a A5 part option made of aluminium. 😉
@@snapshot_rccars To be honest, I probably won't drive it too often so the arms might not bother me. That A5 part will though, I forgot to order that so will grab a couple! 👍
Compared to the 80's. 90's to now it's glue the tyres. Unless it was pancar foam tyres. (Which on my ayk were basically foam tubes... Do you glue your tyres be it brushed or brushless.. ,?🤔
I glue mine 99% of the time. On this one I didn't because they're quite a tight fit (and I got lazy lol), but I may even still glue these before running it. Usually I just glue the tyres regardless of what motor I'm running as it's a pain having them come lose two minutes into a run. 👍
