This is part 2 of a beginner build series for the Tamiya Grasshopper. This video is designed to be a slow and detailed overview of the build process by going over each step in detail as we put together the gearbox. In future videos the build will go faster, but initially we will take a slow pace to help you understand, and figure out, the build process of Tamiya products. I hope this helps you with your Grasshopper build and with other Tamiya products you may choose to purchase.

Appreciate it! Thank you. Glad these videos are helping! It’s a great kit and the gearbox is pretty bullet proof so it can take some abuse.

Thank your not quietly handling those bags and giving us all those great plastic bag sounds that we love so much for 30 seconds at at time

Great job with supplying a complete build guide, like a full on 'this is why this is the way it is' tutorial!

@@FastFreddyRC 👋 hey, On this particular part. I’m not sure as I’m a newbie to this, but I think you added too many bearings. It only says on the quantity’s use 5. I think you’ve actually put in six. Maybe that’s why you had trouble putting the two large sections together? Lastly, have you run the grasshopper or is it a shelf queen. Many thanks 🙏
@FastFreddyRC
@FastFreddyRC 2 года назад
@@kevindawson7702 Hey Kevin! It is actually 6. There are 2 bearings each side for the axle, that's 4, then the 2 bearings on the gear inside. The kit comes with a small metal bushing that they call BM1 which i replaced with a small bearing. And yes! i have run the grasshopper and will be coming out with some running videos of it.

@@FastFreddyRC apologies! I meant 6 large ones and 1 small 1. ( so in total 7) I’m only asking as I’m in the middle of building the gear box. An I certainly don’t want to re do it. If you watch your video back. Thank you 🙏
@FastFreddyRC

@@kevindawson7702 Hmmmm...i just watched the video back and I only see me putting in 6 bearings. I put 2 in one axle, then I put 2 in one of the gears (including the tiny bearing), then when i start working on the other side i put 2 bearings in the axle before i put the two sides together. So you should be putting in 6 bearings in total. In the instructions it says 5xBM2 plastic bushings and 1xBM1 for a total of 6. 5 plastic bushings and 1 metal bushing. All of which I replaced with full ball bearings. If you have a total of 6 bearings you should be good to go!

I just picked up a Candy Green Grasshopper from Japan for 64 AUD. I also got the bearings which is a must and I used HUDY super diff grease plus a set or rear Hornet tyre. Once the Hornet Evo comes out I will see if I can mod the shocks it looks like you can.

@@kanenstuff very cool! That’s definitely the best way to get the most out of the grasshopper. I’ll be curious to see how the Hornet EVO performs. Seems like a great addition to the vintage (now modernized) car.

Excellent video and instructions. On my first hide it runned well for 5 minutes and gear box failed. I put it back again. It's is working! Haven't test on street yet. it seems that plastic gears até frágil. Any ideas for upgrades? Thx

Thank you! Appreciate it! So when you took the gearbox apart the first time, what did you find that was causing the issue? This gearbox is known for being almost bulletproof and should last you a long time without having to upgrade or change it out. Are you using just the stock setup or have you upgraded other components at this point?

You didn't grease the 3 little pins on the differential, plus that separate stepped pin.

Thank you for these videos. I cannot align the halves of the gearbox to screw them in place. Something is making them not fitting flushed. Any advice? This is my first kit built. Thank you.

Hi there...you're welcome! As you can see, I was having the same trouble as I couldn't totally see what was going on with the camera in the way. However, few things to check...are each of the little gears sitting properly before putting the two halves together? Or is the other gear not fitting into the whole in the plastic properly? One other option is feel free to send me a photo of both sides at info@fastfreddyrc.com and I'll see if I can see anything that looks a miss.

@@FastFreddyRC at around 14:30, you put a bearing on the small shaft. Is that correct? The white gear already has 2 bearings already
@FastFreddyRC
@FastFreddyRC Месяц назад
@@dnbpianist thank you for the photos and I’m glad we were able to sort that out. You should be good to go now. Often the instruction manual has to be interpreted a bit to make sense of the placement when they don’t show you what actually sitting on the other side of the gear. You’re doing great!

just got this kit. noticed in your video and in my kit that there is an extra gear in the gear bag which is not either in the instructions or used in your video. is this gear not used?
@FastFreddyRC
@FastFreddyRC 2 года назад
It’s not used. In a number of kits you’ll find extra gears because the parts bag is used for a different kit as well. So for the grasshopper it’s just an extra gear in the bag.
