Just a little running intro/outro and a little extra footage of the wheel adaptors and shocks that I omitted from my recent main video of the complete Tamiya Grasshopper and Hornet collection ... for the sake of keeping that one as short as possible. But for those who are interested, here it is.

Yeah. Two different chassis but very similar. And then fitted with different bodies and shocks. Tamiya in a nutshell :-) Thanks for watching mate

Cool! Love the Grasshopper and all the hoppers! Your Lunch Box actually have the same rear suspension and gear box as the Hornet/GH2/Super Hornet in this video.

Yeah it's such a good gearbox but a new gearbox that I also like is the dt02 gearbox and your grasshoppers look amazing

There will definitly be in 2018. Summer will be splendid for taking some of them out in the sun for runs and comparing them. Right now I’m also working with a Rising Fighter upgrade series :-)

Fantastic video, totally enjoyed it. Oh man the Grasshopper II dampers which get stuck as soon as there's a little bit dust and dirt. There are still bushings in the Super Hornet and Rising Fighter :) 👍
@NordicRC
@NordicRC 6 лет назад
Thanks, buddy! Yeah mine gets stuck even with no dust and dirt. Only works when it is greased down to a point where it is ridiculous :-) Yes, my SH and RF are bone stock. Gonna start modding the RF though. Got all the parts ready. And gonna see if the SH is re-released this spring. Would be logically since the Grasshopper 2 was re-released last spring. Thanks for watching, my friend. Hope to see more of your cool black Hoppers this coming season :-)

Great addition to the main video Nordic RC Visions - But watching this I can't help wondering why the rear wheel adaptors need to be proprietary - a standard fitting would be cheaper and easier for Tamiya :-/
@NordicRC
@NordicRC 6 лет назад
Thank you! Decided to leave this out of the main video aa it was long enough even without :-) Yeah I wonder why too. Think I have encountered 5-6 different wheel adaptors on the old Tamiyas. Maybe it was an age of experimenting ... not being able to decide what was best ... wanting to try something different to see of ot worked better ... and all that experimenting led to the 12 mm hex winning and taking over as the standard because more and more used it. It is strange. Maybe it was a financial issue. Making sure that most people who bought a Grasshopper II, Falcon or something else bought spare GH/Falcon wheels again if they broke. Funny thing is that they don’t seem patented (is that the right word in English?). My Nikko Bison uses the same wheel adaptors as the GH/Hornet. Well long story short: I have absolutely no idea :-) Tamiya works in mysterious ways.
@MarkBryanRC
@MarkBryanRC 6 лет назад
Yeah I think you are right with the experimenting idea - Tamiya used the 12mm hex well before 2000, but other designs at the same time - as the hex became popular most Tamiyas have switched to this design (e.g. the Rising Fighter). I don't know of any new Tamiya kits (except re-releases) that don't use hex drives now - I must say I prefer a standard fitting as it gives us RC nerds more choice when it comes to replacements and upgrades. And yes mate, patented is the correct term :-)
@NordicRC
@NordicRC 6 лет назад
Yeah, I prefer standard too, though these vintage ones makes the models more interesting. The real value of a Grasshopper/Hornet is the ways it differs from let’s say a DT-02/03. A piece of RC history. But if a DT-03 came with it’s own little weird adaptor I would be very dissapointed :-)

hopper curiosity.. pop in a 390 motor (no stator ring = a little less torque and a little more RPM) instead of a 380, wire up 4 18650 cells series parallel for some 7.5v at about 6000mah capacity to "run forever"? lithium ion don't have much C rating, but parallel 2S sharing the amp draw could be good with a 390 motor and really pretty inexpensive. don't know, but they might be ok charging on a typical NiCd/NiMh type charger and less sensitive than LiPo for being drained down. 4 of the 18650's might be a little lighter than a 6 pack of sub C's too. seen 390's going for 5-6 bucks, and 18650 cells a little over a dollar each in flEaBay. just thinking it might be a subtle+cheap+easy upgrade to almost "level the playing field" between a GH and a Hornet, without going "big can" 540 size motor banging into rear shocks etc.
@NordicRC
@NordicRC 6 лет назад
Could be interesting to see! Would love a video with that, bro!

Nice with another comparison. What is going on with the rear suspension on the GHII?
@NordicRC
@NordicRC 6 лет назад
Thanks Jesper! It’s just the way the ‘shocks’ are without applying tons and tons of grease :-) Probably the worst working friction shocks I’ve ever encountered.
@mrjesperklausen
@mrjesperklausen 6 лет назад
There must be something binding. Just took a shot of mine ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--7c6XPwg9AY.html
@NordicRC
@NordicRC 6 лет назад
Thanks for the vid Jesper! I’m pretty sure I build them according to the manual - though I have been known to make simple mistakes in the build :-) In my build video series I show the building of the shocks ... and the binding issue. Including dismantling them again and adding a lot of grease - which helped a bit ... for a while. I know others which also have had great trouble with them - especially when running them: a little dirt and they bind. Maybe you have used a lot of grease and it hasn’t worn off yet? Maybe you compress them a little more gently and quickly in your video than I did in my video? I have no explanation :-) Maybe I will try to rebuild them again for the third time and see what happens :-)
