One of Tamiya's biggest Icons. The very one that got me started in the hobby back in late 85. Damn I struggle everytime I see one in a hobby shop or online. For the price I really should. Haven't touched a Tamiya in 30 odd years and recently built a full box art Avante 2011 and I'm hooked again.. Once Tamiya gets into your soul... It never really leaves. My X-maxx, XRT, Losi Promoto MX, Felony and Typhon 6s etc are just looking on in disbelief lol...

This is the car that got me into RC as a kid. I got it for Christmas, around 32/35ish years ago. I lost interest until very recently, and I've not bought one yet, but when eventually I can scrounge up the money "I'm blind on disability in the US, yes I'm not 100% blind. More like 85 to 90%" this is what I want. I didn't build mine back in the day. It was already built under the tree. Come to find out, the sound I thought was Santa that night, was my dad knocking the tree over with my hornet lmao.

Those black wheels are worth more than the car now. I was luck to get a set a few years ago before they became impossible to find.

My dad brought me this when I was 10 back in the 80s. I used to live taking it over jumps. I smashed the back wheel cog box so many times and had to change the tyres every few months. I’m here as I’m showing my 9 year old who is ‘buzzing’ (sorry for the pun). To get one…Thanks awesome vid.

To stop gearbox slap, I made new torsion springs out of paperclip, a bit stiffer but worked and still kept articulation for suspension

You should try the 380 Sport tuned motor. Because its lighter, it handles better and actualy fast for the size. I use it in my grasshopper with Traxxas 10t pinion. Speed is about the same as the silver can.

O.K., i finally order a XSA Hornet, a set of bearings and a "Sports tuned" motor. I guess I will run it with a very cheap "turbo racing 91803g-vt raido gear, small enough to hand it over to my litte daughter. Let's see if it's fun to drive, in every case it brings back memoris :-)....

Nice work Adam - perhaps the hardest part of the Hornet build is the decals. I struggled a bit with the roll bar decals. Looking forward to more Tamiya stock in the next shipment to Oz.

The motorwires looks unusual. Original is red and black. But all in all a good build.👍
@RCACTIONAUSTRALIA
@RCACTIONAUSTRALIA 4 года назад
Yes the motor wires are from a normal Silver Can. As mentioned all electrics were supplied by the Sub who wanted it built. Personally I would of changed the wires & used a better esc but I worked with their parts & vision for the car 😎👌🏻

Very nice build! It's been very frustrating trying to buy any Tamiya kits in AUS. Stocks have basicaly been non existant, perhaps related to COVID. Hopefully things pick up early next year.

New to RC builds would you recommend something like this for the absolute beginner? I assume the kit needs other parts to run which are purchased separately? Motor etc

It’s a perfect beginner build. You only need radio gear. The kit does come with a standard motor

Hopefully if I get enough money again hopefully I will be buying the hornet next. I do hope I can find a black sport-tuned motor for it, but it seems it's gone to a chrome can. Hi. Does anybody know if the assambled "XSA" Models from Tamiya are exactly the same as the normal kits in terms of parts and quality? I ask because currently we have a shop in Germany offering the "XSA Hornet" for less than the kit version (100€ instead of 125€)?
