I was a big fan of Monogram models before I got a Tamiya model as a gift. At that time, it was MRC / Tamiya. The detail these guys put into their models is amazing. Its good to see the detail isn't wasted with your talent. My build was the Honda 750. You had to actually build the chain from individual components. Great kits. Nice job on the video.

That's a curious problem happening with the filler. Especially with multiple coats and really good paint. But it still looks crazy awesome!

Hi Tom, ive only recently got in to scale model building (3 months off my feet following surgery!) and find your videos really inspiring and informative. Please ignore this if you want to, i really dont mean to offend, I just wanted to offer some advice regarding your lighting setup. In this video im assuming youre working under mixed lighting i.e daylight from some big windows above or around you and that you also use some sort of lamp on your spray booth. It may be worth seeing if you could replace your lamp lights with daylight (5500/6500k) balanced bulbs/tubes, this way you would get consistent lighting no matter where you hold the models. With the mixed light its difficult to see where the paint is and what the colour looks like as it shifts so much. With the camera primarily balanced for the lamp light, any where in the shadow areas not illuminated by the lamp is filled in with daylight which appears blue. You could alternatively correct for this in camera if youre using equipment that allows for custom white balance setting. It would look better and probably be more comfortable to work with as you spray. Again sorry if this is unwanted advice, im learning so much from yourself and wanted to return what little i could ☺. Keep up the good work.

Hi Tom. Obviously, a project from 5 years ago won't shine light to you, but maybe some other viewers could use some help. I don't really know if your problem here was really a reaction with the filler or something else. Mine was different I've built this same model some months ago. I found out about the issue with the rear vents after the priming stage. I was, as you did here, filling and sanding over and over again with no good results, until I found out that the vents are just supported lengthwise but not widthwise. Even if I used Thin cement and filler, the part still moved a tiny bit and make that seam to appear all over again. The way I solved it was to reinforce the seam underneath with CA glue and, once dry, fill the seam again. That worked for me. Cheers!

Tom related to Zero paints its normal that they bite to undercoats or to plastic itself sometimes, they are aggressive same as automotive paints, heavy coat of this kind of paint create reactions as You faced, Lacquer paints need to be applied in very thin layers. Hope it helps in future. Sometime they bite also putty, but as You mentioned 2K putty is way.

I just started on this kit and I bought the exact same products from zero paints. Do you have any tips on how to avoid the “ghosting” problem you had?

Thanks for your previous answer. I have make a test but it seems that I have problems to fine tune my Harder & Steenbeck infinity about the amount of painting to spray... Can you give me some advices to find the right tuning. My test has been made with a 0.4 needle at 1 bar.Thanks. Frank.

Hello, I am just a beginner with my aerograph. Thanks for your video, it helps a lot !! I just want to know if the 2 layers of primer are wet or light/dry. It seems that the first is light and the second is wet... am I right? Same question for the ZP? Thanks in advance for the answer :)

I got an airbrush off a friend, I think it's a .2 needle and I'm new to this, haven't sprayed a body before. I thought I would've needed a .4 or .5. How come you are using a .2? This means I can spray body colour with .2?

I'd imagine the solvents in the paint are drawing out the solvents in the filler, causing them to shrink

I can't understand one simple thing - could you please explain/advise: From this video (and from all others to be honest) I can't understand - do you paint the body interior? The inside of the body. I think in some cases it can be visible... roof for example... or not? In this particular case I'd be a light gray color of the plastic. Maybe it is not necessary because at the very end it stays invisible? Thx
@TheScalemodelingChannel
@TheScalemodelingChannel 9 месяцев назад
Yes and no. Sometimes its covered by the glass parts, and then you’ll need to paint those as a headlines. Somtimes it does need to be painted as this is headliner. Every kit is different. So you need to approach every kit differently.

hi, for the mystery of the "ghost" it happened because you used tamiya extra thin (and we saw you smoothing it up with more extra thin), nothing wrong with that, it is excellent glue and I use it all the time, but it need actually days to go off completely, so after couple hours you think is dry, you fill, you send and move on to paint but inside the plastic it is still a bit melted and it is going to take like weeks to go really rock hard, so it shrinks down a bit, if you are doing one tank or airplane that is flat finished and is going to be weathered anyway afterwards it had no problem, but if you are going to a silver metallic that is going to be super shiny, than you have a problem, you should had used just superglue, I prefer to use the melted sprue into... guess what... Tamiya extra thin, I fill the gaps I want absolutely perfect and live it to cure for weeks as I move into another projects, when I came back, that is like welded plastic, it can be sanded and reescribed and riveted like all the plastic surrounding it because it have the same hardness of everything else around
@TheScalemodelingChannel
@TheScalemodelingChannel 6 лет назад
I agree and disagree with you here. If the seam was 100% filled and flattend by just using the glue, yes. It was not even close to enhough time. However the glue did not get close to getting it flush. Its the exact line where i put the filler in multiple times. Thats what makes it a bit strange. I have done this before without the glue, just using the filler and the primer and had the same problem. Even after weeks(in that case months) of drying.
@cesarignjas
@cesarignjas 6 лет назад
Ok, so in that case it is happening what I described like the filler being different in texture, hardness, porousness, etc... than the plastic it is bonding in... I had this before, that´s the reason I moved to use the so called Sprueglue for filling the sensitive gaps and sink marks, it fits my modeling demands since I jump from project to project and take long to finish something so I can plan myself and give it time to go completely off... To ilustrate this: www.scalemates.com/profiles/mate.php?id=16302&p=albums&album=34209#7 In this model the airplane had a very bad sinkmark around the airbrake, of course that for Natural Metal Finish I have to correct this perfectly or it would be super visible, in the end it is impossible to point out were the deffect was. in your case I believe the 2k primer that was suggested is a good fix for that situation, good luck! looking forward to see this one!

The vents over the rear wheels are the only real weak point on this kit. As well as they fit, they need to be a tiny bit larger to eat up the gap. There's a FB group dedicated to this car and doing as many of the different liveries as possible and many of us have had this same issue. So far we've found that using Tamiya thin cement to attach the part is fine, but then the back side needs to be filled in with some CA glue to fill up any gaps. Then on the top side Tamiya's filler primer (same size/type bottle as the thin cement) over the top side gaps help eliminate that "ghosting" effect of the seems. www.tamiyausa.com/items/paints-finishes-60/finishing-supplies-62000/liquid-surface-primer-40ml-87075 Nice work Tom. I love this kit, I've got eight of them, all to be done in different liveries. Looking forward to your next video.

Hi Scalemodeler, I have a general question: Do you always paint the inside of the body aswell, because sometimes the manual says to do so and sometimes you can see some parts of the inside of the body (for example when you open the engine hood or when looking at the interior)? Greetings from Germany
