Another great video. Love watching old RC gear getting used as it was meant to be. Would love to see a back to back motor test with a Tamiya Technigold and kyosho Spa 240ws. Back in the day they were both motors most of us dreamed of getting our hands on.
Great video Glenn. I've got 2 super Super stock RZ motors both in a Hot Shot and Super Hot Shot. On 2 S lipo envision battery with the full bearings in car I get consistent 44-45km/h or 26 nearly 27 mph. And this got me thinking you know who really needs brushless motors, because when brushes wear out you just replace them . And I don't really want to go with brushless in a Tamiya kit. I reckon also that 2 S lipo is just right for a Tamiya RC car and 3s is probably right on the limit or even too much. Puts the entire cars driveline under too much stress. 2s is the sweet spot. Brushed motors are still good enough for me and I will continue using them. On another note , I also have a Kyosho Fazer Chevy Camaro VE BRUSHLESS which I've got to the same speed well 59!km/h on a 2 S lipo and if I had enough space instead of driving out front of my house may have given a bit more. But too dangerous on public roads especially because of risking crashing into kerbs which can really destroy a car. Done it a few times and it's just horrible. Kyosho claim that brushless motor in the ve Camaro can get to 65 km/h. But that was scary enough for me , I don't need anything that fast. I'm more than happy with my brushed Tamiya buggies 👍👌 Love your channel Glenn, from Australia
My TT02 is also a RZ powered. Reached 48km/h with 2S lipo.😊 I agree with you that brushless is too much unless you are on racing track. I usually play my tt02 on a deserted road with almost no traffic, but the road kerb always the enemy. If brushless on the road, probably my tt02 is a wreckage now
Nice man, can I ask what esc you use. I have a hotshot blockhead with sports tuned motor 7.2v nihm and wondering if I use a lipo battery whether or not the electronics would hold up? My esc is a hobbywing 1060. I'd be happy to buy this super stock motor
It really is a great motor. I bought my son a KingCab to go with my Monster Racer that I've had since I was a kid. The Kingcab is rebuilt with the new Rere Super Astute TTC. The RZ matches up very well with the truck and transmission.
Great videos, been watching for a while, and this is my first comment. I've been playing with a few brushed motors for fun, and the Tamiya Super Stock TZ/BZ/RZ are all great. I stumbled onto a Kyosho Krypton Krystal 14T recently. I stuck it in my Egress and it can pull 55 km/h on just 2S, and I didn't even start playing with the timing yet. Love to see that motor in your cars.
@@TAMIYALegends you can find it here: www.ebay.com/p/70564-Kyosho-E-motor-Krypton-Krystal-14/1004306811 It was part of a series of "mad science" motors, that went from 11T to 17T, but I've only seen the 14T motor.
Glad you asked that you have to get a DT 03 model now to if you don't also try all the black cat and motors and the TZ motor you need to try all the new brushed motors and you need to try all their brushless motor.
my RZ installed in my Re Re Terra Scorcher is overheating and shutting down running the ESC TBLE-02S, don't know if its the ESC shutting down but the motor is real hot- a lot of compression with this motor, I could check gearbox movement with a standard motor by moving the front two wheel and see them drive the rears, but only with the standard 540 motor, interesting side note I'm sure your aware of.
RC Hobby Shed Yeah at the beginning of the video I say I’m only going to do a 3s flyby for the gps reading 😂 But in actual fact I ran the full battery through it 🚗💨💨
Hi Glenn, I have this RZ (and BZ too) motor in my Neo Fighter and in NovaFox. Its good enough for these 2wd buggys. Fast enough, but not too fast and good controlable. I think, its an optimal motor for these. Enjoy it and have a fun.
There is another maximum revs (Its about 1000 revs) on the motor box. But when drive it, I didnt notice any difference. Only the color of the sticker is different.
Hehehe, tire torturing.... ;-) I have this motor in my Turbo Scorpion. It´s great. Couldn´t even test the car in our appartment. First I used the TBLE-02S in it. But this was a mistake. The ESC didn´t fit to the 23T. Now I got a Quicrun 1060 and man, this car is fun. Although I didn´t use LiPos.
The only bad thing I have to say about the RZ motor is.... It's too fast for me. Even on 7.2 Nimh. I put it on a TT-02R chassis and with the stock (very hard) springs it was too much to handle. Have to try softer spring on the rear suspension to see if it's more manageable. Great video!! Thanks
Super cool you compare nimh to lipo in your videos. I mostly use nimh, but hard to find good ones these days. I had most bad luck with chinese brands, but Orion packs works all the time👌Do not have Avanti batteries in Norway.
@Jinxx mk2 No. Just some small 1800 dynamite and bad Radient crap. Team Orion 3600 mah is very good, but will not fit all Tamiya models like TA03, TL01.
Nice video Glenn, the RZ motor is a well made motor. I had to fit ball bearings to my RZ motor, it’s even better with bearings 👍🏻 Just as I ball race all my RCs. I wasn’t sure if the motor would handle 11.1v lipo as it is rated at 8.4v. But it took it😂
Less resistance than the standard brass bushes. I have read it’s about 10% more RPM &Torque, but I haven’t tested it myself. The motor does run better with ball bearings IMO Also no need to worry about dry bushes👍🏻😎
@@Bandit-Darville Tamiya Legends, has a video on it now. So does RC Action Australia. Watch both videos, well worth it. I’ve been fitting bearings to super stock motors for years. Any way I could reduce friction, I would do it.
I am getting to electric RC , i just bought this motor, and when I spin the spur gear the motor doesn’t spin freely? It spins with a clock feeling 6 rotations. Is it supposed to do that or did I get a bad motor?
Kalan Star Excellent well I have to say the brushed motors aren’t made to handle 3s power, so the life of the motor will decrease! But if like me your cool with that, have fun my friend 😎🚗💨💨💨
Awesome video ! That is a great brushed motor. I'm wondering how it is compared to the Super Stock BZ. Also that DT-02 is such a great car to build and run. I say it like Alex Albon's race engineer at Spa: Excellent !
Hi...just getting back into the hobby after 20 yrs...I am about to build a Terra Scorcher Re issue...I am thinking about getting this motor for it. Is this a good idea? I was planning on using a HobbyWing 1060. Do I have to use a different pinion gear than what's included in the kit? Thanks for your help!
I've got my buy Lancia Delta running on on upgraded high-speed spur gear and a 19 tooth pinion Gear ear with this motor on the hazard I can get nearly 42 kmh and that's running on 2s
Alan Morris Hey Alan, I’ve never tried one on 3s tbh, I know Tamiya don’t do Lipo, there battery is the Life 😬 I’m out with the TB-01 Rally Car soon which is fitted with the TBLE02s ESC. I run that on 2s, but I’ll take a 3s with me to see what happens 😬🚗💨💨
Hey Glenn. Have you ever used the Tamiya Commutator cleaning brushes? Part 53486 is suitable for the Super Stock BZ and 53487 for the RZ. You are supposed to remove the motor from the car chassis, take off the spur and replace one of the brushes with a cleaning brush and run for 2 or 3 mins. Cannot for the life of me get them to work. Any tips greatly received!
@@TAMIYALegends Thanks for getting back to me Glenn. It’s really weird - the cleaning brushes are mentioned by name, on the bottom of the instructions you get with the motors, as the recommended way to clean the commutator but no-one has ever heard of them - let alone used them. I certainly can’t find anything on RU-vid of anyone using them. A possible inclusion in your next motor vid? 😉
Cam row drone Definitely not my driving 😂👊🏻 I have to say I really like the DT-02, this is the first one I’ve had on the channel. It’s a great handling Buggy and when you see it on the gravel it’s even better 🚗💨💨
Oh that's a 23t ? flies pretty nicely down the road on 3s, thought it was more like a 17t motor or similar but i guess they are even faster if the esc handles that on 3s. Maybe you can try the reedy radon 2 crawler 16t motor ? Feel free too try these motors out as well, possible the reedy motors are these but rebranded too their own brand with how cheap they are at around 25 usd. www.banggood.com/SURPASS-Hobby-Brush-540-11131620T-RC-Car-Motor-For-110-Crawler-p-1524962.html?rmmds=buy&ID=47249&cur_warehouse=CN Maybe you can look for a double 15t as well.
Seem to have found a few of them on amazon uk as well. www.amazon.co.uk/WEIHAN-SURPASSHOBBY-Brushed-Waterproof-Crawler/dp/B07WP42MNY/ref=sr_1_59?keywords=motor%2B540%2Bx2&qid=1567498742&s=kids&sr=1-59&th=1 Maybe the Abisma thrust 540 brushed motors could be worth a try as well, think they go down too 8t x2 which is quite fast.
@@TAMIYALegends just built avante 2011 I put in a super stock bz with 23t pinon and it killed the tble-02s .. I'm looking for replacement that can the extra power load
alexander Irwin Unfortunately not, I don’t have anything remotely close to me over here, so I’ve gotta make the best of what I’ve got 😬 + this was just to test the new motor out. Not sure if you’ve seen my normal running videos but I try to get they on the gravel as well 🚗💨💨 Thanks for watching buddy 👊🏻
i love tamiya, but they're electrics scare me, they even have brushless motors (i have 1 brushless rc and it scares me, no really, its a huge "1/10" rc car, do note the quotes, called the ftx rockatan, its 3s and i swear it wants me dead)
