Hello and welcome to the second of my upgrade videos of the Tamiya SW-01 Lunch Box Mini. In this episode I will be showing you how to add 4 wheel/wheelie steering on a budget using some 2mm thick aluminium plate.
The Tamiya Lunch Box Mini 4WD is a new, smaller take on the awesome Tamiya R/C classic Lunch Box Monster Truck.
This is a compact, manoeuvrable, and above all super-fun addition to the world of Tamiya wheelie models! It's a familiar face, too, as the legendary Tamiya Lunch Box has been shrunk down to 1/24 scale.
The shrunken version of a classic Lunch Box body sits on top of the 4WD SW-01 chassis. It is capable of 4-wheel steering using separately sold Upper Arm Connectors that not only allows you to steer with all four wheels on the ground, but it also allows the vehicle to steer while doing wheelies!
SWD-01 chassis key features:
• The steering uses 1-piece upper arms for a tight turning circle and the body leans to help suppress tumbles. It can be converted into a 4-wheel steering setup with separately sold Item 54898 SW-01 Upper Arm Connectors.
• The body is attached to the body mounts using magnets for quick attachment.
• The Type 370 motor is located right in the centre of the SW-01 chassis, in a gear-driven 4WD setup with a gear ratio of 21.875:1.
• 1/24 scale R/C model assembly kit. Length: 190mm, width: 146mm, height: 140mm.
• The famous Lunch Box body is moulded in lightweight and durable polycarbonate and is pre-painted.
• The body leans in the direction in which the model steers, achieving remarkably tight turning circles.
• Responsive 4WD.
• Strut style suspension.
• Can be used with standard size servos and R/C equipment despite its compact nature.
• Big, tread patterned tires give superb traction and add to the overall cartoonish look of the Lunchbox Mini.
• Dish type wheels.
• Compatible with Tamiya LF Battery LF1100-6.6V Racing Pack (M-Size) as a power source.
• Aftermarket battery note: Battery pack size must be under 66x36x15mm in size.

When I used to go out scrambling in the woods as a 16 year old there was a bloke who could wheelie a bike in a circle. We all thought he was the coolest kid who'd ever lived! By that logic, you're the coolest RC guy on RU-vid, with your RWS wheelie machine. : )

Hi Bob. So far dude it only works on my hard floor in the Livingroom. On carpet it does what the hell it likes lol. Not had a chance to test it on tarmac but I suspect it will need to be really smooth. Thanks for watching and all the best mate.

Mate.... You've still got WORK to do! 😳 I'm not sure what Tamiya was THINKING with those Toe settings. It does do Nice sit-and-spins, but that rear Toe-In is ridiculous!!! I get it that you followed the Manual... but a novice will do this, and wonder why the rear steer is CRAP, and it likely destroys Tyres in no time. 😖 I'm actually surprised at Tamiya! This was not meant to be negative towards you!! It's great that you're always daring, getting into Kit mods straightaway. I just see this Factory approved mod, a detriment to the Novice. They don't have the experience that we do, to loook at it and say "this don't look right". I KNOW when you sort this, this will be brilliant and FUN. I'm just perplexed, Tamiya charges SO MUCH for this Kit, and you've already had issues with Dogbones, now this.... I guess that although it's a mini, it's NOT a beginner's Kit!! ........ A small part of me still wants one. 😳😜 Can't wait to see what's next for this little bugger! May 2022 bring you joy, happiness and prosperity!! 🙏🎊🎉🎁👌🍻🍻

Hi Carmine. I know what you mean mate. I ended up checking the manual and adjusting the toe as after making the arm joints and testing it on the hobby room carpet and it failing miserably I thought I must have missed something. It was only after making the changes and testing on the hard floor in the Livingroom and then reading the notes in the manual that I discovered it doesn't work on carpet anyway lol. So I think I will reset those arms and test again for a comparison. I think you will definitely want one when you see the last mod, coming early next year. All the best and the same to you and yours my friend.

@@robbrennanrc If you're talking about that rolly thing on the Roof, that you previewed last video, then yes!! A lot of people are going to tear up Tyres though. Your videos will help a lot of people!!! 😎👌😃

Hiya Rob. Great idea to make your own rear steer bars. I didn't realise that it was an option on these. Seems to work fairly well. That rear toe in looks odd. I wonder if the official Tamiya upgrade is different in any way? Anyway, good stuff mate. Best wishes 🙂

Hi Pete. I think they should be supplied with the kit to be honest. I know at around 14 quid it's not that expensive but they mention 4 wheel steering in the Key features section of their description. That toe I got from the official upper arm con manual. The other thing I got from the manual was to get the rear upper pivoting. I ended up finding the manual as it seemed my home made arms weren't working but it ended up being because it doesn't work on carpet, possibly due to the pile or something lol. But going to straighten the front and rear back out a lot and try it again. Many thanks and keep safe mate.
