Same, I'm planning on a build and am doing a lot of research such as obscure videos like this one to see what other people have accomplished. Pretty much all I'm going for is Tamiya's 51340 Nissan GT-R (R35) body and getting a chassis and electronic parts to match it.
thank you for the video ... im trying to make my tt02 fast ... im running the 68t tamiya spur and the stock 22 t pinion .. on a 4000kv motor .. seems pretty fast already ..
Nice. Im about to put a robinson racing 49t spur and 45t pinion in mine with 3s 5900kv brushless and see what it does.lol. learned everything through you and kaizertestrc. Thanks
Dan 351 the TT02 is a good cheap platform that can go fast pretty easy. There are heaps of parts available and even the good Tamiya hop ups are cheaper than what you would pay for an X-ray parts. There are much better platforms but for a good cheap start in 1/10 touring car the TT02 is good starting point. Check out the TT02RR.
Hey Stew Mac how do you mesh the gear perfectly because I’ve try it not to lose and not to tight just perfect then after a high speed run my spur stripped?
Your video really helped me understand a lot more. I purchased the 68T Tamiya HS Spur and 2 sets of Pinions. Ranging from 19-29T. 68 sour and a 27T pinion. On a brushless 2s. How fast am I expecting you thinking?
There are many factors that go into speed so I wouldn’t be able to work that out. Most of the fun is getting out and trying it and seeing how it goes. Then making changes to go faster
Dear Stew, Love your videos! Thank you for sharing your knowledge, very much appreciated. I have ordered the Yeah Racing adjustable motor mount and the Tamiya High-Speed Gear Set. What 48DP gears would you recommend with the Castle 6900kv 1410 (thank you for the recommendation !) ? Are you still using Castle motors or do you use TP motors ? Cheers
i would recomment even making a ducttapped cover on that machined area or even a paper cover, because i have lost heard from random asphalt rocks that have flown into the gears and broken them intirely
Cool, I picked up a TT02R that had been used on 3s,it had melted the output bearing (the cover and chassis where you'd machined away the top for clearance), just wondered if you'd had the same issue. I bought a new chassis and cover for it,seems like these chassis aren't that well adapted for high speed,or maybe the previous owner had been doing donuts on 3s non stop, who knows....
@@philthyco1 I've been racing and building R/C cars for more than 40 years. Putting a metal bearing into a plastic housing and then over heating it isn't good engineering practice. But thank you for your insult nontheless...I didn't build it, I bought after someone else had,and screwed up,and was just trying to pass on some info in case you had the same issue. I'll keep quiet in future.
Sorry I didn’t see this comment earlier. I have never melted any part of my cars. I use really good quality bearing and clean out the grease and oil them. I also service them regularly.
I have a car I’m trying to Setup to set records, it’s rwd when I get a new drive belt , what do you think about using a pinion that is 17 teeth bigger then stock (41 teeth) (87 tooth spur) , everything is pretty much stock but stock it’s carbon fiber ect , I’m also looking at a 69 tooth spur from the car this is a knock off of
Gearing is not really a one shot deal. I basically use a different gear combo any time I test. It’s been a long time since I played with the TT02 and can’t remember what gears fit.
I just put the 68 spur and 33 pinion on my tto2 what sort of speed do you think it will do? I may convert to the 48 pitch for a smaller spur if it’s not fastenough
@@StewMac570very true. Ile just have to give it a rip to see what it can do. I am running a hpi racing flux 4000kv motor and hobby wing 3s esc and 3s lipo with the standard cosworth body so will be happy to see 50mph
I haven’t tried any speed runs with my tt02 yet because I’m still upgrading it so far it’s almost entirely aluminium on have the front and rear bottom arms the gearbox outdrive axels and the front wheel axels to get in aluminium then it’s done for that. I’m going to switch it to brushless as it’s using a 7.4v nimh with the stock torque tuned motor but I’m going to take it to a 3s lipo with a absima thrust bl eco or hobby wing just stock 3650sd brushless motor not sure but I need help with the gearing as I want the fastest gearing combo but don’t know how to get it
AfaqH it’s hard to just give you a number. As you can see I have heaps of gears and what’s in the video in only a small part. The only way is to start with a final drive of 5.5 and work down.
Hi! great video! How about the quality of the tt02 chassis? I am between this chassis and the kyosho fazer mk2..because both have 2 differentials, but I don't know which one will have more resistance and longevity, which of the 2 will resist, more speed, without damaging, differentials, gears, arrows ... greetings and a strong hug!
Milton Marone no prob. You can get steel gears from GPM or use the alloy gears from the DF01 gravel hound. The new type RR has harder plastic diffs with alloy internal gears. I have tried them all and the plastic gears with the alloy locks worked well for me. Also depends on power. I only used 3s on the plastic gears.
Hi there and great video. I’ve got 2 TT01’s on 3racing chassis’s . I wondered if I can do as you and go up to a 48 teeth pinion? I want to do speed runs myself. Pls help. Thanks.
itsnotfairmate hi mate. The TT01 is limited to Tamiya mod 0.6 gears. You can get different Spurs I think to 55t. And bigger pinions. But you are not able to change to 48p
Stew- Mac thanks for the reply. That’s unfortunate but I understand. I’ve got the 55t spur and the highest pinion also in the cars, so I guess that’s the best I can do. Thanks so much for the help once again and keep up the great videos. 😄
Stew- Mac I’ve got a 7700 castle creation set up and 2s lipo’s and it’s definitely very quick when I’m bashing (never did a speed test yet) but saw your gearing set up and was really blown away. I’ll now as you said look into bigger 2s batteries. Thanks.
TMM I run locked diffs front and rear. Shocks I was the TRF shocks with 3 hole pistons and 800cst oil. Then you need to 2deg toe in on the rear and 2deg toe out on the front.
@@StewMac570 Sweet. I could never work out if a locked rear diff helped or hindered stability. I think my biggest problem is needing foam tyres or belted rubber tyres as my car starts to wander at 100kmh.
Kaizer Test touring car is 1/10 racing. So proper RC race cars like X-ray team associated, yokomo and the like. The are pretty common if you look for the right stuff. Most major stores carry those types of gears.
@@StewMac570 Ive been looking. I'm just not sure which diameter the center hole is. I see some with small hole and some with bigger hole in the center.
Are these suitable for speed run's ? Are you using fronts front and rear ? Thanks 👍 www.rccarshop.co.uk/wheels-tyres/1-10-touring-car/j13273-contact-foam-1-10-front-26mm-32sh-jap-carbon-p
Hey Stewart...thanks for all your help. Yesterday I got my TT02RR up to 80mph thanks to you...vid here...ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-l5BUQh2vPos.html
