Tampa Bay Rays Yandy Diaz Strikes Out Because He Requested Two Time Outs

During the bottom of the first inning versus the New York Yankees on Saturday, Yandy Diaz would come to the play and ask for his first time out after disagreement on an 0-1 call from the home plate ump. After fouling a pitch off, count 0-2, Yandy would ask for another time out. This is a "violation" thus he was sent back to the dugout, striking out.

Thats a dumb one. After they use their one time out and if they ask for another just dont grant it to them and let the play/pitch Cary on..shouldnt be an automatic strike..

@@grumpsterg foot out would be a pitch clock violation if he's not ready inside the box at the right time. Ump should have just not granted the time-out, and called the pitch. I don't think it should be an automatic strike(or ball if pitcher), if a second time out is requested and the umpire grants it.

Uhhhh if he doesn’t have a timeout remaining why are they granting him time to strike him out? It’s a request to call time, just deny the request and call the pitch

Might have something to do with it being a distraction for the pitcher? Anything can happen. Looks like the ump was just calling time himself to explain what he was doing. The batter should have realized he had already used his timeout. I think he did after it was explained to him. Which is why he didn’t destroy the gatorade cooler in the dugout! lol

It’s funny you say that, never thought of it as a distraction but we may be approaching that as a thing. I can see batters start to make weird motions or even yelling out at pitchers to throw them off. Think equivalent of pitchers changing mechanics to throw off timing of hitters.

Nah, they are good. What's bad is umpires expanding the strikezone calling strikes on balls out of the zone. He forgot he called timeout because he was rattled by that strike call.

Get rid of the new “rules” and let the players play the game, the way it’s been played for decades. If it’s that important to play a shorter game, go with fewer innings. But above all…USE THE STRIKE ZONE THAT’S ON THE TV SCREEN and get rid of useless, home plate umpire.

I prefer a longer game when I go. If I payed all the money and spent all the time driving I don’t mind watching a 3 hr game. Id be kinda pissed watching a game that ended in 2 hrs flat.

imagine if this was game 7 in the world series, a 3-2 count with 2 outs bases loaded down 1 run in the 9 inning and the game gets called cuz of the time clock or this timeout rule.... would that be fair?
