Andy Anderson is something else. He can skate street, vert, and freestyle and got some of those nice old school tricks. I hope to see him in the Olympics.
I imagine the Olympics being something like a street league format with the setup and scoring so ya prob want see guys like Andy there unfortunately. Prob more guys like Nyjah or Yuto Horigome with a high scoring tech comp trick kinda style.
I disagree. I think he looked the most uncomfortable I've ever seen him. This is the first contest I've seen him in and personally I dont think his styles suits competition. But I fucking love the way this guy skates. Original, inspiring and super rad. Does he skate alot of comp?
@@garyfreeman896 His style for sure isnt catered to competition runs... hes doing such odd unique tricks its hard to score his runs but theres plenty of skate legends that have gone through the same struggles of staying unique and true to themselves or conforming to the industry standards. Mike V is a great example of someone highly respected that was an outsider most of his career, like he just thought different and skated different then those around him at the time and his career had many ups and downs because of such... and of course we all know the Mullen story of being forced into street skating. One things for sure he might not ever be among the top ranked competition skaters but thats not to say hes not entertaining as heck to see in competitions, he surely always puts on a great show even if hes not doing the biggest and gnarliest stuff, there is a special beauty within his unique approach to skating... of course Nyjah, Yuto etc have there own grace and beauty to there skate styles too but im excited to see Andy entering the competition circuit, like Ishod hes just fun to watch skate and you know he doesnt take competitions to serious but rather is just out there to have fun and showcase his skate style. The few competition runs ive seen of his have been highly entertaining for the simple fact you know Andy is gonna bust out a few tricks in his run(s) that nobody else is doing... I imagine he has crowds form around to watch his runs like Rodney use to have in his freestyle days, where hed have like all the skaters watch him compete just to see what new trick he might do, see if he'll finally fall/make a mistake etc... I believe Andy has that same effect on other skaters, no matter what skill level you skate at or discipline you skate, I believe most skaters can watch and enjoy his uniqueness... of course hes no strangers to haters either and im not seeing hes universally loved by all skaters but I think a majority that watch him skate will understand that hes something unique and special and generally good for skateboarding. Hes a genuine skate rat though and through with a hungry/desire to learn as much as possible on a skateboard and I believe Andy will accomplish some legendary things throughout his skate career.
He tried a axle slide... And then tried it again. Sure a unique trick, but on flat, in a park run? Maby if he did it on a ledge (which he can't because one he's not Rodney Mullen and two he's probably eat shit) this run was a joke. I'd give him a 5/10 for participation
Loved that he tried the primo slide [twice] in the middle of his run. He is very true to his own contemporary style and will not conform to the norm. My guy.
Thats what skateboarding was truly all about back then. No need of fascinating tricks or fast speed to show off or impress people. Just feel at ease, cruise around with a few OG tricks and then enjoy the genuine happiness of skating. Gotta pay more respect and appreciation on Andy. He really brings us back to the where TRUE skateboarding was derived!!
@@John-mf6ky IDK, I just watched Ishod Wair and Shane O’Neill’s runs (placed 3rd and 2nd) from the same contest and both had much more of a mellow flow and looked more at ease than Andy. I really like what he is doing for the sport for originality (or is it retro?), and making it a different way. He is super inspiring to most kids, to whom Nyjah is on an unreachable level of talent. But got to keep perspective. He is not in the same league as the guys at the top of the game in contests. There is a reason they are always at the top. Watch their parts.
@@joshuadorsey5823 Yea seriously listen to this guy. Those top 3 runs were out of this world from Andy's run. Like watching a guy who has skated for 5 years vs 20 years. I love Andy and know he's a top notch pro but come on. There is not a single trick in this run that is hugely difficult. He's just having fun but not seriously competing.
@@mclarensaleenf7 you probably don't realize the difficulty of Andy's tricks. Not to say basic pros aren't good but it's way easier to do something that you have seen before..
He's forcing everyone to remember that there are no rules in skating, and is inspiring a whole generation to think outside the box. It's like the revolution in the 80's on a smaller scale all over again. Beautiful to have a dude like him in the competitive side of skating. I want this kid winning Golllllllddddss in the summer games
Crazy thing is that he has gotten so much better since this. Watching his stuff over on the Braille skateboard channel has highlighted his crazy work ethic and his commitment to skateboarding and improving each day.
alright you gotta love this. tricks from all eras of skating, doesn't give a fuck what the judges say just going for it. wasn't sure about this guy now I'm sold
I think he doesn't fit te actual judging system. Still he is one of the best I have seen, especially his balance and originality - creativity. I wish there were more skaters like him ... and maybe even more helmets.
The judges score the tricks, not the run and a lot of the things he does between the handrails and the boxes don't show on their radar. To them it was just a couple of big ollies and board slides.
He is probably better at the actual art of riding a skateboard than 99.99 percent of the people there. Name one that can do every aspect and make it look natural. I hope he gets the respect he deserves.
"He is probably better at the actual art of riding a skateboard than 99.99 percent of the people" Lol. I don't think he looks natural at all, he's just a wannabe Mullen with not even 1% of his skill. The kids got some tricks but not even close to top level. He looks amateur next to any serious pro, and in my opinion his skating style is ugly.
@@rookere1604 People do tricks and go big all the time. Andy Anderson incorporates tech, freestyle, tranny, rail tricks and more into his skating. I.E. knowing how to actually ride a skateboard vs. just doing tricks. That's what that means.
@@ashleybrown4754 still doesn't really make sense. and it's not like the old school stuff he does is hard to do for any pro, they just choose not to do it lol
@@rookere1604 you have no idea man. See him in person doing crazy shit every try first try and having the rest of Powell gawk at him. All the Powell pros were sick but Andy is on some other shit and noone disputes it. I've seen alot of pros and Andy is NOT the GOAT but he is respected by everyone that skates with him, Even pros.
Dude's an individual. Who wants to see everyone attempt the same been done tricks in every run. Wish he had been luckier or on his normal game so everyone would have to bow down :)
Did anyone else notice that guy just casually throw down that massive laser flip while he was doing the front feeble 😲 also Andy kills it, reminds me of skate comps back in the day there was always one dude just like Andy but he is the king of all of them
He nailed that second run. Judges did a horrible job scoring him... because he’s not doing the same crap everybody else was doing? Definitely should have been in the finals..
Skating has always been an individual thing but if you do things differently than what is popular you get some hate. It's always been that way. Fucking lame.
Dude is insanely good, i just can’t really get into his skating. He has the style and flow of someone who shouldn’t be as good a she is, yet he is. Good on him, just not into his style and flow of skating personally.
Andy killing it and does`nt give a shit about the rules. Love the refree trying to get andy of f the track and then yelling "YESSSS" when he lands the varial flip way overtime xD Crowd going nuts then :D:D:D Thank you Andy
