Great video. No stuttering or rambling, no lame attempts at humor. Non stop value from start to finish covering only what matters. Nailed it bro. Liked and subscribed
I shot over 40 weddings in the past few months with this lens and Sony alpha 7 4 … flawless! Super quick auto focus combination with the Sony cameras, took it for first time out in the rain and wind about 30 miles an hour on the beach, no problem!
I (partially) switched to sony to be able to use this lens and have to say, Im happy I did ... for weddings, been able to do most of it with a 1 camera-1 lens approach not only makes everything easier and faster on the wedding day, but also find it to be faster on the editing too
I did a wedding 2 weeks ago and used this same lens on a A7iv it was very impressive. I also agree the 24mm 1.4 is a good sidekick for those times you need a lighter low light lens.
Mine bring delivered right now! Fun fact is that if you look back at the tamron Adaptall film era lenses it isn’t much of a surprise that tamron would create a lens in spirit similar to that one wildly popular back then . They had both a 28 to 105 and a 35 to 135 , even a 35 to 105 2.8
Enjoy it! Yeah Tamron has made a lot of these in the past. I feel like these type of lenses have fallen out of favor in recent years, in lieu of small primes. But this brreathes new life into the lens type.
Wow, love the presentation background, looks good with that "man in blacks" in the forefront! Baby images starting @5:50 are just fantastic! It give your videos added credibility, when you demo the gear in active pro work. Brilliant job as usual, RH.
I bought or rather ordered this lens in November 2021. Delivered in the end of April. I had used it for 3 model shoots and some still life client images. I just used it for a full day on location model shoot. Nice yet there were some hesitations with AF, but that may be my A7RIIIa. Most images are keepers, and they are sharp wide open at any focal range. Especially nice is to have 150mm at f2.8 that gives nice bokeh in a huge range from 35mm at f2.0 upwards. I am sure I'd prefer primes, yet carrying them around and swapping lenses is not missed.
I have only ever missed focus on this lens at 35, when at f/5.6+. I’d be critical about that, but I have an identical experience with the Sony 35mm GM.
Absolutely love this lens. I even decided to not use my faithful 85f1.4 prime on my most recent editorial shoot. I guess I lucked out. I got this lens from a local camera shop in Orlando the week it came out, before the hype was serious. Intended it to really only be a travel lens, which I did use it on a trip to San Francisco, but it's just so nice I'm starting to use it elsewhere as well.
Thank you so much for this and all of your other videos. I am guessing after borrowing it from a group shoot in Sacramento, Ca that was also co-sponsored by Tamron (Photo Slam), that I might just have to break down and purchase this amazing lens. I just know that, attached to my A7IV, I was immediately impressed with the first and every shot that came from them lens-OMG! What was the downside(s)? I had to stop thinking...stop thinking about "Am I at 2.0 or 2.8 right now? Am I missing out on the .8 aperature depth of field I am accustomed to getting with a prime? Does it matter right now?" WAY too much mind games going on. Lastly, I would not SOLELY take one body and one lens to any event. What if this amazing lens had an unexpected issue at an important event? I have no backup whatsoever and would have "crap" on my face for not having a "plan b". Other than that, I so loved using that huge focal range and look forward to renting a few more times to see if I can truly justify in my head the purchase one a new lens to add to my arsenal. Thanks again for all of your gear and lighting videos and honest thoughts you share. Huie D. (From Bay Area-California)
I like the videos, Rob. I saw one the other day about changing the hot shoe for the V1 flash. However, the website seems pretty difficult to navigate and I wasn’t quite sure what I was ordering. Do you know of another website locally that carries the new metal mount?
Im using Canon R6 + RF28-70 f/2. Im pleased with the lens but to be very honest Im leaning toward to change the system! This lens really got me. I plan to move to Sony A7IV + this lens + 16-35 f/2.8 GM.
Thank you so much, sir, I want to buy it, but I was a bit confused, will that be more wait, now after seeing ur video, I am Happy, I like to buy this lens...I am a wedding + event Photographer ... your post helped me a lot...Thank once again sir
Thank you for this in-depth review I watched about an year ago. For vacation, I would most likely want to have the small and lightweight with great IQ Tamron 28-200mm f/2.8-f/5.6 with me. This lens is one of the main reason why I switched to the Sony FF body over all the other manufactures who are limiting the 3rd party lenses. When paired this lens with the new Sony A7RV with Ai & 8-stop IBIS, the 60MP FF with the super sharp Over Sampling 26MP APS-C images the combo provides an incredibly flexibilities that covers most of my needs and wants. Tamron 35-150mm f/2.0-f/2.8 focal range including the APS-C mode: @ f/2.0: 35mm-39mm (APS-C range: 52.5mm - 58.5mm / Total available range: 35mm - 58.5mm) @ f/2.2: 40mm-59mm (APS-C range: 60.0mm - 88.5mm / Total available range: 40mm - 88.5mm) @ f/2.5: 60mm-79mm (APS-C range: 90.0mm - 118.0mm / Total available range: 60mm - 118.0mm) @ f/2.8: 80mm-150mm (APS-C range: 120.0mm- 225.0mm / Total available range: 80mm - 225.0mm) IMHO, these two are a perfect match and made for each other in the photography world.
Can you share how you typically shoot and set up your camera? For example M or A priority? How do you set up your buttons on your camera and on your lens? THANK YOU!!
I own a canon eos 7dii and have a collection of L grade lenses. This year I purchased a Sony a6600 as I wanted eye detection AF with a sigma 18-50 f2.8 as this would be a very nice travel camera. The Tamron 35-150 now adds a reasonable size lens for travelling, day trips, or when you need to travel light. So I would buy for my a6600if I can get a good deal. I use a sofa mc-11 adapter to mount my canon L lenses on to my a6600 when needed, ie 100 macro.
Excellent as always. Do you think necessary to have a collar for the lens when mounting on a tripod. Not wanting to damage the camera body due to the Tamron weight. Thanks
I got this lens with A7IV, and sometimes the AF isn't accurate enough for me ... Maybe I got a bad copy, cause I already send it for dust behind the front element
I have been on the list to get this lens from B&H and Adoroma for the last 8 months. I would love to purchase it but just can't find it. Does anyone know who has it is stock to purchase? Any help would be appreciated.
I don’t recommend for travel, but that’s all about your tolerance to equipment size while traveling / relaxing. I have a camera in my hand so often during the week that the last thing I typically want in my hand while traveling is a large camera. I feel way better working photography into my personal time when I have something more portable.
I would love to have this for Canon RF. As I put my camera equipment in the carry-on luggage for flights it gets pretty close to weight limit for carry-on. Right now the 135mn f/2 is my favourite lens - so having that focal range and aperture nearly covered + a lot more sounds like a perfect package.
@@robhallphoto As always! But I don't think Sigma Tamron are incapable of reverse engineering. Nikon adopting Tamron's 28-75 2.8 lens design recently has smthing to speculate for us. 🙂 fingers crossed!
@@saibhargavamanda1062 They didn't have to reverse engineer the AF algorithms previously, they were licensed to do so on EF and F mount lenses. Sigma had to reverse engineer them however.
Hey Amy. The overall sharp aesthetic could be achieved with a 6500, if viewed digitally / full view. The difference would be if you were looking at a print. Since it was taken with a 50MP camera, my shot would have a lot more resolution than one taken with a 6500. But otherwise it's just a high f/stop and quality glass that creates this sharp of an image, nothing out of reach with a 6500.
@@robhallphoto Thanks, I am using a Sony A6500 with MC-11 adapters and Metabones V, since I have lots of Canon glasses. I know lens play a factor, which one would you say are the best in terms of sharpness? Canon EF 300MM F4 L Sigma EF 150-500mm F5-6.3 Canon EF 100MM F2.8 Canon EF 50MM F1.4 Canon EFS 55-250MM F4-5.6 IS Canon EF 70-300mm F4-5.6 IS
Awesome review with a lot of useful information! I’ve done some event photography and have some weddings coming up. Would you recommend this lens over the 70-200 GM II? I already have 24, 55, and 85 primes and fast 17-28 and 28-70’s in my kit
I have the 70-200 GM II as well. While it's a sensational lens, I think the benefits of 1 zoom giving you nearly the same coverage as your 28-70 and 70-200 is very advantageous. If you wanted to continue using two bodies you could have the other be your wide angle or prime of your choice. The big thing that this is contigent on is if you're willing to lose 150-200. If you have a high megapixel body there's really no loss.
I haven't noticed that but the lens hood is pretty cheap for it being a more premium lens and I rarely get it to snap into place on my first attempt but I do love this lens.
The hood was definitely an adventure to get on and off initially. I actually adjusted my bag compartments so I could keep the hood flipped and not have to adjust it. As for casting shadows, I don't think I've used this lens close enough / with on camera flash for it to ever create shadows on the subject.
I did a wedding this past weekend with ocf and the vignette is noticeable especially at the wider end. I'd make sure you turn on the lens profiles... Maybe that's what you are experiencing?
@@lauriewahlig2819 I would but I don't really have any photos taken exclusively with it. For that event I had 2-3 off camera flashes going too so the photos aren't representative of just that modifier.
Lol trust me, it’s an internal struggle. I have 9 GM’s (10 if you count my v1 70-200 that I have yet to sell). It feels absurd to find benefit in this lens while having that type of lineup and yet, I’m using it more than anything else I have.
@@robhallphoto so true it never ends I will most like order the Tamron as soon as I fine it in stock. Don’t think I am crazy I have been looking at the canon 85mm 1.2 it also look like sone glass I wish sone would step up and go for this m. How do you think this canon would work adapted
I am pleased that the Tamron 35-150mm F2.8- F4 lens was mentioned as I almost forgot about it until last week I think it came out in 2018. I intend to purchase it fir my Nikon D5500 and the newer version for my future Sony A74 and Panasonic S1H
I have this lens and notice it's pretty poor when it comes to high contrast situations. Do you notice the same, Rob? - Oops! You mention this same thing once I watched your entire video.
