Just a test to see what one of my old lenses from the early '80s could do on my EOS70D. Several versions of this lens exist - this is the model 103A.
Uses an adaptor from Adaptall 2 to EOS bayonet from Hong Kong (about £12).
Note I did do some tweaking in MovieStudio (see end credits). The camera was set to Sony's low-contrast video colour scheme. A description of the lens is given here:

Can you tell me which adapter did you use? Is there an Adaptall-2 to EOS adapter with glass?

Hi Manojkumar - I just use a simple non-branded adaptor with no glass - (search eBay for "Tamron Adaptall 2 II to Canon EOS EF Mount Adapter" - about £15 in the UK). I have never looked for one with any glass elements - I just accept the 1.6x crop factor, which makes the lens equivalent to 128-336mm.

@@reqordist thank you. I found some too. I found this lens on ebay for 15 GBP. I'll buy an adapter.

The Adaptall 2 mount is Tamron's proprietary intermediate interface, which requires a further adaptor to the particular camera make/model you are using. When I bought it in the 80s, I used it with a Pentax K mount for my ME Super. When I dug it out of storage to make this video, I bought an Adaptall 2 to Canon EOS adaptor via eBay. It reduces the lens to completely manual aperture/focus/zoom operation, and of course there is no in-lens stabilization. Bear in mind that using it with a crop-frame sensor changes the effective focal length, and will not make the best of the lens sharpness. So it's an academic exercise, really!

Hi Bisal - not sure what currency you are talking about, but this is a museum piece and not very useful as a practical lens. It has a very small maximum aperture, no stabilization, and the combined focus/zoom ring is awkward. You would also need an adaptor from its Adaptall 2 mount to whatever camera you have.

hey thanks ! for reply but is 3.8-4 for 80-210 pretty good right ? nikon D3200 and nikon d5500 are one of those rare camera that takes in pre AI lens. I have such two lens 50 1.4 and 135 2.8 . Found one in ebay for 20£ with Nikon AI mount. was wondering if it would be good collection since bearing in mind that i do not have to fork out another 300£ for a zoom lens ? and picture that you have showed me in this video are quite good as well.

Hi - Yes, I suppose 3.8-4 is pretty standard for that zoom range. Given that your camera will take the lens straight away without buying an adaptor, it's got to be worth £20 just to see what it can do. You'll have to get used to manual focus, though... Have fun, and post some video results when you get the lens!

@zizzy Hi zizzy - thanks for the feedback. Good to hear you're getting good results with this lens. I feel justified in calling it a 'museum piece', since it's intended application (full frame, film camera) has long been superseded by digital cameras with more advanced lens optical designs and focus/aperture automation. But this doesn't mean it can't still be used! I'm all for using old kit where it can be adapted to modern applications if it can bring something unique to the party. Many artists say that enforcing limitations on their technical equipment inspires creativity. I'd be fascinated to see some of your results - is that stills or video? Cheers!

@zizzy Thanks for the feedback. You will see all the settings listed in the credits. I was using Sony Movie Studio at the time. Have upgraded it to Vegas Pro since then. I'm not particularly skilled at colour grading. I tried DaVinci (the free version) but it seemed very slow and unstable, so am sticking with Vegas Pro 16 for the time being. You will see from the description that I boosted stauration and increased the contrast from the original low-contrast camera setting. Regarding modern AF lenses, you can always set them to manual focus - but the focus ring is normally servo driven, and it's difficult to get a real feel for the focus point, and it never seems consistent or repeateable. I normally use my AF lenses in Manual mode for video, but use the AF override to lock the camera onto a stable target in the field of interest at the start of shooting. Given the limited resolution of camera screens, I find that the EOS70D's AF function generally does a better job of judging sharpness than me eyeballing it on the back of the camera! That's my technique, but you may have a different approach (focus peaking / false colour on the monitor, etc.) I do have Magiclantern installed, which provides additional focusing functions. Cheers!
