Angela Boraston ► Tamsin Dearnley
What would happen if you could play anything you love on the lever harp? You'll be arranging and playing anything from Bach's 'Cello Suite' to Paul Desmond's jazz standard 'Take 5' like our guest Tamsin Dearnley ( / @tamsindearnley ) ! Tamsin is also an accomplished composer in her own right creating pieces such as the boundary-pushing 'Suite for Lever Harp' and award-winning jazz solo '16, 234 (.47)'. Now based in Toulouse, France, Tamsin's path to being a professional harpist is full of surprising twists and turns, and you are going to hear all about it in this episode of Harp Connections. Oh, and look out for surprises such as Tamsin's interview of Victoria!

Finally got around to watching this one - Tamsin is definitely one of my harp heroes/heroines, and our musical biographies appear to have a lot in common. Many thanks for this great interview!

What an inspiring interview, thank you. I am now a Tamsin fan and look forward to taking up the challenge of learning my first of your lovely interesting harp pieces.

There is something to learn here. If you can't conform to the normal, create your own. Someday the old normal will have to catch up to you. Find what your good in and grow on that.

Tamsin, as you demonstrate, music is from the soul and has an individually and a unique personality. From your friend, and badly behaved lever harpist … ❤🎶

This was such a fun interview, I enjoyed it immensely. Your journey to where you are now is so interesting and I love your "sure, I'll try that" attitude. All those experiences play into why you are such a diverse harpist and composer. I loved how the interview was interspersed with some of your video recordings and a few live performances. I was absolutely thrilled to hear you play Marwnad yr Ehedydd live, that was special. As you mentioned, you haven't recorded it and I have your arrangement which I plan on learning soon. As a composer myself, it's always fascinating to hear what the inspiration is for a piece. And yes, when Victoria asked you how you would describe yourself in one word, eclectic came to my mind immediately! Who wants to play just one genre of music, how boring! 🥰
