We build "Dr. TRS-80," the anthropomorphized Tandy TRS-80 Color Computer featured in the original manuals. There is a montage! #retrocomputers #retrogaming
This was *great*! I don't think anyone has actually constructed the mascot before. I do know that Boisy and the Coco Crew did find out who wrote the original BASIC / Extended BASIC manuals (and I think the illustrator as well)... I will reach out to them and post here once I get their names.
I'm sooo happy to see you follow the sage advice of Norm Abram during his days on the New Yankee Workshop. There's no more important piece of equipment that _THESE_ Safety Glasses. 👍Nobody wants PVC fragments anywhere near their eyelids, eyeballs,... And 6:28 Steak Knife ftw, hey it's safer than any laser cutter quite frankly and WAY quicker for this build. 👍 Aaaaand BOO-YAH! 11:03 dear reader, if you're watching this, Taylor and Amy did it! This turned out way better than I thought it would.
"Way better than the impractical guide." I just spit coffee all over my desk! P.S. I can't be the only one that wants an entire Taylor & Amy music album...
Look, Amy dropped an amazing dad joke ("Well, that's better than the impractical guide...") and everyone is refusing to acknowledge it. I can't let that go on. That joke was brilliant! (Also- great video. Nice work!)
Holy crap. Your reveal of the Color Computer 2 manual just sent me back to Christmas, 1983! I was trying to make video games in BASIC with poor results. I didn't know anyone in my blue-collar hometown who knew about computers lol. All I had was that damn book!
I grew up hating this mascot guy.... And, I spent hours typing in random stuff from those manuals. Today I love that mascot guy - this may be the best thing I've seen on RU-vid.
"See, here he is with his new friend." "Disky." I don't know why, but that made me smile. My first computer was a ZX Spectrum 16K. I still have the manual: spiral bound with what I thought then and think now is beautiful artwork on the cover. Edit: smiled all the way through. You two are loonies. Highly intelligent, skilful, original and creative loonies. And I mean that as a compliment. 🙂
Thank you! The creativity and passion that goes into this channel leaves me at a loss for words. I really appreciate your hard work and dedication. Please keep it coming!
Great to see the Mini PET manual made the grade along side it's illustrious predecessors. I will start work immediately on a Mini PET mascot for the next edition 🙂
Absolutely FANTASTIC! While there are retro RU-vidrs out there wasting their time attaching 16TB SCSI drives to a ZX80 or hooking up a punch card reader to their early-access release PlayStation 6, THIS is where the really interesting stuff is happening.
My phone died today and the thing I was most bummed about was losing the last text chain I had with my best female buddy from Uni (class of 93). The very last text I sent her was a link to the 6502 song with some comments. Keep SINGING those Weird Al inspired songs, they keep us smiling and I hope it made her smile in those last days.
That's neat. Glad you guys had fun recreating the mascot from the CoCo books. Those books were my introductions to computers when I was a kid. The CoCo community had another mascot that even had a guy in a silly cat costume that they had at conventions. CoCo Cat was often seen in the Rainbow magazines. Cheers! :)
I hope we’ll get a chance to meet Anthropomorphic CoCo at CoCoFest! My 11yr old son is coming with me this year and just watched this video. Maccy is one of his favourite RU-vid characters, so he’s liking this new one already.
But there's 1 manual.. and only 1 manual.. hahaha I really enjoyed this video. Doctor Tandy Radio Shack 80!! (It's a normal name) hahaha So much fun.. keep up the great work, and love the coco videos.
I just realized what it is. Who's the third and silent cast member to the left? She keeps giving them knowing glances. THAT'S why shes looking over there ok ok
Last time I was in Memphis, someone used one of those cutters thingies to cut out the catalitic converter from the bottom of my vehicle. That cost a pretty penny to get fixed. The muffler place who fixed it for me said they do multiples of those every day. Your next project should be downloading your brain into a computer and taking it over. I'm guessing ya'll have some "maker space" type places available around town and don't necessarily have to use your steak knife.
Can Simone Giertz and Laura Kampf create and perform musical numbers with catchy retro PC lyrics as well as you two? No! They can't! Well, probably not. Another great video!
What did Amy say at 3:32? I can't quite make it out! EDIT: I think I got it (either "It's my Christian name" or "It's not a Christian name") either way, I also laughed. Amy's humour is the perfect counterpoise to Taylor's energy. Love this channel so much.
