Chris tanev was and still is one of the best Dmen in the league. I still think hes the bonafied #1 shutdown Dman in the NHL. Of course im Bias because im a canucks stan, but tanev is really really good.
Good signing. People are crying about term because they’re just upset the Leafs got what they needed. The Leafs are the richest club in professional ice hockey….they can and will buy Tanev out towards the end.
Um......... being rich has nothing to do with buying out players, nimrod. Buyouts eat up cap space, otherwise, you'd see every team buying out a mountain of players every off-season.
@@librarycard3748 So i guess your unaware that buyouts still have a % of the contract that go against the cap. its called Dead cap. Buying a player out stays on the books for years and years. Ask NYI fans about Rick Dipierto buyout. Leaf fans are funny.
Always liked Tanev, but seriously, guy is gonna be 35, two months into the season, and his injury frequency, and recovery time, is only going to increase with age. This is not a "good signing". It's a very risky signing, and I would be surprised if he isn't injured long-term, in his very first season with Toronto. I wish the guy the best though, as he's a heart and soul player. We'll see how things unfold.
Fun fact: Nylander didn't miss a game all year for Toronto. Tanev missed over a dozen with Dallas. But he still played more hockey, and more meaningful hockey. And nobody's talking shit about Nylander. Marner and Samsonov, but one of those guys is gone now.
He's the one factor on the backend that this team has been lacking. If we can get the right Marner trade, maybe we can get one more solid righty on D and some cap space for another gritty winger.
Yeah lets trade our best player. Great idea. Tavares deseeves nothing but praise for proudly wearing the C, taking 11mill per and leading this team to all its success over his years on this team. Let's blame our winger who eats up the most minutes as a forward
@@Thisisbailie Marner is great is the first 2 games of any given playoff series, then when the games get tougher, he folds like a cheap suit. That being said, that's not the primary reason why he needs to be traded. They cannot build a winning team with that much money allotted to a few forwards. This isn't the All-star game where it's all skill and no contact. No cup winning team in the past 10 years has been built like that.
@@GospelTestimony and Tavares takes more and plays way less and puts up way less. Marner is our top points producer even in playoffs. People who act like he is our captain and the only player that matters in the playoffs are on glue.
@@Thisisbailie Who acts like that? People just recognize that he's going to be unreasonable in his contract demands and we can't build a winner, while paying 3 guys 30 mill/ plus.
@@GospelTestimony To go one step further, no team has been built like that in the entire salary cap era, and probably the entire history of the game. Even Edmonton in the 80s had Coffey on the blueline and Fuhr in net. It will *not* work. The Leafs have a chance over the next year to completely reinvent their team. Tavares comes off the books and if they trade Marner for the right piece then that would only leave them with 2 forwards making 11M or more. Moving into the future with Matthews and Nylander is the way to go, at least Nylander scores goals in the playoffs. Interestingly, Seravalli said today that Vegas has been poking around on Marner apparently. It would make some sense, they lost Marchessault, Amadio and Stephenson today up front. They also got Hanifin which may make Theodore expendable. Vegas also only has 2 NHL RD's at the moment. Perhaps Marner + Liljegren + Niemela for Theodore + Barbashev + Vegas 2027 1st round pick?? Dont know what the deal could be but it is interesting that Vegas is at least intrigued by Marner.
@@Droz75most people agree….Canada’s cup curse and the Leafs drought are intertwined. The Leafs will be the one to bring the cup back to Canada….and go on a run of cup wins too. Book it.
I definitely like the moves we have made but I'm still not sold on this core. When you watch the cup you see just how good a team needs to consistently play to win the cup and the leafs just don't have that experience. I want to be wrong so glg
When my Canucks let him go several years back I always thought the Leafs should have been all over Tanev as a partner for Reilly. Better late than never.
Hanifin was the same kind of player as Rielly. Tanev’ll be fine I just don’t expect him to play a full season so hopefully he’s healthy in the playoffs.
really .....whats hes our savoir?( going to do the double phinuff) as a leafs fan for over 30 years i see same shit different year, guarantee they will be out in the first round again....
Doesn't help, playing for fans like you for 30 years. Whining, bitching, complaining. If y'all said ANYTHING positive, do you just.. burst into flames? I'm curious, I've NEVER heard a positive Leafs fan in my life.
Oh man. First 100 point season. 80+ assists. Best record in hockey. Nah, he's just a fluke. Maybe Calgary just had a shit team around him. Or maybe that's what negativist fans like you deserve 😂
Leafs love the fake season each yr, he'll be fine for that. Toronto should pay the LAK, to buy the Kings name. It's more relevant; other than Telecoms.
