Today we will be taking a closer look at the Tanfoglio polymer framed 10mm. Based on the CZ-75 design, this 10mm is perfect for those wanting to get into a 10mm without breaking the bank.
@Icarryone yeah, it's literally true in a sense. Unfortunately, here in California, even if we can get the mags we can't buy the gun. That is unless it comes up on the 2nd hand market where you can often pay 2-3x times retail price for off roster guns.
What an excellent review. Unlike other videos around here, the video is crystal clear, I can understand every single word you say, you're not waving the gun around constantly so we can get a good look at it and it doesn't sound like you're ad libbing dialog as we go along. What a refreshing change. The other folks that put out laughably poor quality reviews should take note. I can get one at dealer cost (
Very nice review. Have been thinking about taking the Nestea plunge for a 10mm but didn't want to shell out $500+. This model is within budget AND it seems very well made! Thanks for sharing.
If you like 357 mag you'll love 10mm. It's not a fad. It's 357 in a modern auto. It's good. And it's best when you reload because like 357 a 10mm can be down loaded to 40 for range fun and training. My M20 runs stock without failures on light plinkers through a bear load I made. The only thing I don't like is losing brass. You never lose brass with a revolver. So if you like 357 you'll like 10mm.
$500 is just the pistol, buddy. Taking this to the range for years on a "steady diet" of 10mm ammo costs big bucks. Skip 10mm unless you live near bears. Even then, skip 10mm & go for .44 magnum.
Thank you Sr. for your video! There are many that upload videos and talk like if they were Rap Singers or like if they were on steroids. You talk clear and concise; you don't talk slow, you don't talk fast, just the right way. You try to inform! They try to sale! Those guys should watch you video and learn. Thanks again Sr.
Great review. Nicely done. I took down my first deer with a 10 mm pistol this past deer season. Very exciting. It was a 40 yard shot with iron sights. I just picked up the EAA 10 mm and a chest rig. Gonna us it as backup for hog, deer and bear hunting.
Just picked one of these up used from a pawn shop.I owned glock 20 10 mm before & sold it because of money issues.I've been wanting another 10 mm camping/bear gun here in Az.I took a chance on this gun,used...and I luv it.Really good shooter. No hiccups....yet at least
Great stuff sir! You got yourself a subscriber this morning and that is because I was watching a review of your favorite 10 millimeters and I am so happy you included the carbine. And I honestly didn't even know about the brand tanfoglio until watching your review and cz clones are one of my brother's favorites I'm beginning to understand why and thinking about joining in his passion for them. Thanks again.
Your review of this firearm helped me decide to go out and buy one. I picked one up from my local FFL dealer. Out the door for $429.53. And per your video I picked up a second magazine, $21.95. I wanted more mags, but he had only one in stock. I prepaid him for 3 more mags. Again thank you for your top notch review.
I just wish EAA would use dovetailed sights for those of us that like swapping to night sights (usually the cost of machining them will cost as much as the gun itself...)
Thanks for the straight forward informational video. Have fired a few 10mm at range, personal preference, like the weight of steel Tanfoglio to keep recoil down
Thanks for the video, this has helped me make a decision on which 10mm to get. As you mentioned I'm on a budget but I still want a good 10 mmmm that can take full power loads.
Been a few years. I have same . Issues will not feed after 1st shot. Purchased recently. Just got 4 different manufacturer 10mm. Hope will cycle. Going Saturday to range. Thanks for video. Yup I'm Sub
Thank you sir for the review. I am looking at purchasing one in the next couple days as my deer hunting backup carry pistol and was reluctant about the polymer being durable enough for 10mm. Thanks again for the reassurance
Thank you for a very informative review sir. These pistols look so much like my very first firearm, an Alfa Combat that I bought about eleven years ago, and sold about six years ago. The trigger on that wasn't much to write home about, so for many years I avoided CZ clones altogether, and focused on S&W revolvers instead. Until about a month ago, where I put down some money for a Sphinx AT2000 S. I have not received it yet, but boy do I look forward to that.
As with ALL of "Icarryone's" reviews, this is excellent information! Sadly this Gentleman can never run for political office... He says what is NO B.S. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK :-)
Would the 20 lb recoil spring be necessary for the steel version carrying Underwood 180 grain? It seems to be pretty stout ammo. I've been considering either the full size or compact, but trying to budget out all the essentials.
I just got into the 10mm game after a 2 year "hem-haw" trying to choose a platform. I picked a Glock 20 eventually, but after hearing your review touch on exactly what my concerns were, I wonder if I should have made another choice. The additional. 45 slide really would have had an impact, along with the Norma standard rounds.
Watch my video on top 10mm picks for 2016. I offer some advice for Glock 20 owners in that video. Link provided free of charge for my valued viewers: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WBsZw7Q3u8c.html
Nice review! That's a very good looking handgun. The first gun I bought when I turned 21 was a Glock 20. I still own it, and it's still one of my favorites. If I had to go to war, that's what I'd carry, and if I had to sell everything else and keep 1 gun, I'd keep the G20. And I can shoot .40 S&W out of it with zero modifications!
Excellent 10 mm reviews, thank you. I was wondering about the recoil, since this gun is much lighter than the steel-framed models. Watching you fire it, it looks like there is a considerably more recoil and specifically - more muzzle flip than one might see in the steel-framed guns by Tanfoglio and other brands. I'm personally looking for a value-priced gun, so it narrows down to either Tanfoglio in polymer or steel, or the Rock Island single or double stack models (I'm leaning toward Rock double stack based on your reviews). Would you care to please comment on the felt recoil between the models I just listed? And specifically, how comparatively long it takes after firing to get the pistol back down and on target for a follow-up shot. I'm not recoil-sensitive, but want to get my follow-up shots off as quickly as possible.
It's been my experience that the lighter polymer framed 10mm's do have a bit more felt recoil - just simple physics. With full power ammo, this polymer framed Tanfoglio model does handle recoil better than any other polymer framed 10mm I've had experience with. It's strongest points are it's accuracy and dependability. Taking those points into consideration, one well placed shot from any 10mm will end almost any threat. For me, It's not about how fast can I get rounds off - it's all about how accurately I can place those rounds. Anything else just comes down to what handgun would I prefer to launch those rounds from.
Now that ammo is gong down we can all get back out to the compound and practice, muscle memory comes back you can shoot this handgun well I have one love it
FASTEST Gun in the WEST,EAST,NORTH & SOUTH. BEST & MOST HONEST Gun Reviewer on U Tube.Just Wished 10mm Ammo Was NOT SO Expensive. Will Have To Consider This Frame 10 mm,TKS.To Ur Info. Trying to Decide on 9 & 10 mm.Like the Fact That 9mm Allows LESS Recoil ,Which Allows Quicker Aim on Multiple SHOTS. Price Comparison of This One & Equal Quality 9mm? Ur Expert Advise Is Always APPRECIATED.
That only applies to the older "round top" models. All of the newer models have the redesigned slides like the one shown in this video. No issues with these newer models.
I was wondering what he meant by "trapped behind enemy lines" (I would think you'd want as much as you could carry), then I figured it out! LOL! Good one!
Nice video...thank you! I have an all-steel Witness in 10mm and it's a great shooter, but also a bit of a boat anchor. I have an 18# Wolff recoil spring and a Henning recoil spring guide in mine. Perhaps I should have gone with a polymer frame instead...
Great vid, as always. Question: of your 10mm pistols, which would you say is the most accurate in follow-up/quick-shooting? (The polymer build brings this model into comfy carry territory as opposed to boat-anchor steel range guns, but I'm assuming less weight means snappier -- although the CZ's ergonomics apparently mitigate much of that.) I wonder if there's a ported-barrel option that isn't hideously expensive, or if RIA's awesome fiber optic night-sights would fit on it....
Fast or quick follow up shots and full power 10mm rounds seldom appear in the same sentence. That, of course, would depend on your definition of quick. What you saw in the video is about as fast as I can get accurately placed 10mm rounds headed downrange with any of them - but that's me. As far as I know Glock is the only manufacturer offering factory porting - the 20C. Lone wolf also makes ported barrels for the Glocks. Other than that, your option would be to have your 10mm custom ported - very expensive. Unlike Tanfoglio's elite series pistols, the slides for these polymer models do not come with a removable front sight. Their way of keeping the price down on these models, I suspect. No fiber optic sight option for these models. I hope I've managed to answer your questions to some degree.
Hmm, I've been wanting to add a 10mm and is a fan of DA/SA, especially CZ, yet random online negativity had put me off the EAA Witness. Guess I may have to give them another look myself, though, the longer barrel Glock 40 also has my attention and I wouldn't mind giving the cartridge as much of a velocity boost as possible along with the longer sight radius. Then again, I also like the SR1911 in .45 and it's now in 10mm, so there's that too, lol
10mm shoots as easy as 9mm in my experience. Even with the hot stuff it's hardly a difference aside from the dirt flying downrange. Everyone should get a 10mm.
1 MAN ARMY Guzman Underwood extreme penetrator is as beastly as you can get. You would destroy a colt delta 10mm with that ammo. My glock 20 eats it all day with a bumped up recoil spring weight. Buffalo bore exxagerates their velocities, Underwood is accurate on their velocities, and it's performance backs it up.
Yeah, actually works....still thinking on the single stack ria you reviewed a little while back, but haven't reloaded in decades.thanks for the reponse.you make em,I'll watch em
It isn't that the frames crack easily, it's people shooting full power 10mm rounds without installing the correct recoil spring. Allowing the slide to repeatedly smash into the slide stop on the frame is one of the fastest ways I know of ruining a 10mm - polymer or otherwise.
My understanding is that the earlier roundtop Witness uppers were thinner, and they are the ones that cracked around the ejection port. But the newer style uppers with the slab sides and top are beefed up, so they don't crack. I still upgrade springs as I move up the power level, to prevent that slamming, bottoming-out effect.
Is there any body making a double stack 10mm in Carry model that is worth it? I have seen the carry models on the Tanfoglio website but not the EAA website and now I found a Grand Power P40 with either 3.6" or 4.25" barrels. Do you have any experience with the Grand Powers? Is there anyone making a good full power defense 10mm round? If not, were is a good place to find full power load data?
I've found the 10mm Tanfoglio P-Carry to be a pretty decent compact carry option. On the other hand, all I'm willing to say about the Grand Power P40 is that I bought one, had numerous problems with it and got rid of it - wasn't impressed. As far as 10mm ammo goes, Underwood, Buffalo Bore and Double Tap sell the real deal "full power" rounds.
Thanks, I went down this morning and ordered a P-Carry. My question now is, is there a difference in Magazines between the Full size Steel frame and Polymer frame Witnesses?
The best feature of the witness safety is when cocked and locked you can clear the chamber without having to disengage the safety. Only the italians guns can do this not the check or turk.
Awesome video (as always), thx for sharing. One question, to achieve 1300 fps with your 180gr bullets, what kind of powder do you prefer using for this purpose? I don't ask you to share your formula, just wish to know what powder? I have a few powders waiting in line to be used (Titegroup, Win 291, CFE Pistol, Lil Gun and 800x. )
I've had no problem duplicating the Norma load using Alliant (Hercules) Blue Dot and Hogdon Longshot. Both are very clean burning powders. I haven't fully worked up a load for the 10mm using CFE Pistol yet - but it looks promising.
@@Icarryone just got my 20lb recoil spring from Wolff. Came with a firing pin spring as well. Do I have to change that too and once the 20lb spring is installed can I still shoot neutered 10mm in it or only the 1300fps loads?
Changing the firing pin spring shouldn't be necessary. Your particular gun may, or may not, cycle the neutered stuff reliably after installing the heavier recoil spring.
hi I just got a 10 millimeter and I am looking for some proper loads for my pistol what do you recommend I was going to order some double taps but some people say they don't hold true feet per second what do you recommend can you please help me
what do you think of the Glock 40 with 6" barrel? Im not much of a Glock fan at all and do not own one but am considering the Glock 40 to get as much out of the 10mm as possible
Just to follow up: it sounds like you've fed this a pretty steady diet of real 10mm loads (not "FBI" loads or factory neuters). The pistol is holding up just fine? No signs of excessive wear, etc.?
Absolutely none. Their newer slide design has pretty much cleared up any issues the older models had. I don't shoot any watered down 10mm rounds unless I'm reclaiming brass to load real 10mm rounds.
Good video! How has the polymer frame he!d up with 10mm power/punishment? I've in several different forums the frames crack or fail. I would like to get the Witness Polymer 10mm with 4.5" barrel; just don't know if it would hold up to full 10mm !made. Please advise. Thanks much.
Seriously, you actually listen to what the self styled internet gun gurus on the forums have to say? You discover that most of them have absolutely zero hands on experience with the firearms they love to discuss. Nevertheless, a number of years ago there were a few slide, not frame failures. This prompted Tanfoglio to redesign the slide - no further issues were ever noted. Perhaps the gurus on the forums need to do a bit of catching up. I can assure you that this polymer framed Tanfoglio is a good investment.
Sir, and To Whom It May Concern: I am looking into the feasibility of having (1) of these full size 10 mm for wilderness carry. Is there any difference in recoil between the Steel frame vs the Polymer frame. If you were limited to buying one, either a Steel framed or Polymer framed version which would you purchase? I am looking for a durable wilderness protection 10 mm handgun that will be able to take sustainable full hard-hitting loades carrying such. Thank You for your answer.
Polymer framed pistols have a tendency to be a little lighter than steel framed models. Lighter usually means more felt recoil in almost any caliber. When it comes to the 10mm round, this polymer framed Tanfoglio's design sucks up recoil exceptionally well - but since you stipulated that a choice had to be made and only one 10mm chosen - I would stick with my Dan Wesson Razorback.
Ironically I found that the Glock 17 has lesser recoil then many steel frame pistols. Based on that experience I lean towards the polymer frame, as well as Firepower and pricing. I carried a 1911 for many years as an Army MP. It is a good design. The CZ design has more firepower and a better price. I am on a budget and want firepower.I might as well but go with a Ruger Redhawk as with a 8 round Dan Wesson. I will be checking out the polymer frame Witness 10mm and if I go with it change the recoil spring to a 20 pound spring as you suggested. Thank You for your abswer. You have excellent videos. Keep up the good work
1:39 Yeah, I have a G40 long slide and G21 .45ACP upper to swap into my G20 EDCC gun, and I love the flexibility. I was curious about doing the same with these Tanfoglios, since the company brags about its easy caliber swaps. I wanted to slap a 6 inch Xtreme upper on a Match Elite lower. But looking through their website parts catalog was confusing, since it had 4.5, 4.75, and 6 inch barrels/uppers, and it was inconsistent as to which one they considered their "long slide". (It's the 4.75 inch steel models, BTW.) They cleared it up for me, and emphasized that you can't swap different lengths between different frames. If you want to swap calibers, you must maintain the original barrel length for that model. Darn.
Will this Tanfoglio Polymer-framed pistol in 10mm (loaded to Norma specs) hold up to the firing of thousands of rounds of hot ammo? I have no experience with polymer frames and am concerned about the frame's integrity after a steady run of hot ammo. Any help or advice is appreciated. I enjoyed your video on this firearm.
I'm not exactly sure how many full power rounds I've fired in this Tanfoglio to date - but it's quite a few. So far, I've noticed no appreciable wear of any kind.
I would like to know your thoughts on the tanfoglio p match pro 10mm. And if it's worth paying the extra money for. I own the P match pro But there's just not a lot out there on it.
yeah I was just looking at that okay thanks again for your time I appreciate it I got a Glock 20 Gen 4 can I just leave that stock would tolerate these pressures
Icarryone, thank you for this video and your critique I do have a question for you. How concealable is this weapon? Also, would you know if there is significant velocity loss with lets say the Witness compact in the 3.6 barrel length. Thank you JB
Just bought another 10mm. Polymer frame Defiant 10F (same gun) distributed by IFG. So far haven’t been able to take it to the range. 😢. The two mags that came with it were defective. Followers hang up inside the mag after loading the first few. Had to buy 2 more mags pending returning the originals and only one works. So far, not very impressed and my confidence in the gun is shaken.
