I have seen a similar video. It explains the same leader steps in 3 beat vals music instead of 4 beats which you seem to suggest. So, the exercise goes 1, 2 ,4 for the leader ( the missing 3, 5, 6 are the missing minor beats in waltz like the 2) And the follower steps in 1, 4, 1,4. We find it easier to count this way because I dance in places where they play slower Viennese waltz and the beats are easier to pick up. So, when I switch to a faster Argentine tango vals, it's just a matter of moving faster with the timing.

That's right. The Viennese Waltz is slower and this is the reason why we say "Tango-Vals", which tells you immediately that it is going to be faster than a Viennese Waltz. The counting system you mention seems good to me if you think in 6/8. Easier to count. Also I must say: Great analysis with the "mirror-beats"! I find it a very practical definition. 👍
