Man I don't see any fiction for the gameplay. I play both WOT and WT but heck.... WOT sacrifice the realistic tanks configuration for some gameplay sake which is nice but I don't see WT doing these kind of things yet. Wish they took a bit more aproach on fictional part for gameplay sake. No don't add the HP bar..
@@atichatsai01 the realistic part in War thunder is actually only about the physic and damage model and these two play the biggest part and selling point of the game. The rest of it is actually quite fiction like the match making and the TIGER'S TRANSMISSION DOESN'T BREAK AFTER FEW KILOMETERS, for example.
6:30 i imagine playing tank with each crew slot having randoms filling your tank would be a chaos, a driver who suicides the tank so he can respawn as a gunner, the loader loads HE instead of APFSDS to troll the gunner, the radioman blasts caramelldansen to drown the comms, the commander slot is empty (Disconnected voluntarily), and the gunner is having a meltdown due to said wrong shell
Id say War Thunder has the best mix of realism and arcade. Thats what makes it good. Too much arcade or too much realism ruins the fun for some people. War Thunder had the perfect mix
@@_nanking5374 aparently none of you got in time to see the era of convetional shells (no Leos and chemical rounds), where IS-4M absolutely dominated, even side shots were extremely hard to pen (there was no penetration analises on the hangar or hit cam tho, so it was literally much more difficult than today, when even SIMULATOR mode gives you hit cam, making possible for your adjust you shot)
He already is. He is playing very good. Once seen him in Rhine. We both finished as the best in our team but my team was retarted (US and Germany players (most of them)) and we lost. But yeah he is a very good player.
@@KingSpittusFactus those are very specific examples, in WT the EBR, r3, t92 and basically all mid tier Swedish tanks are post war and still fight ww2 tanks all the time. That isn’t realistic
There's always Arma 3 ;) The damage models are nothing near Warthunder, but some of the mods have very nicely modelled tanks (with interiors... soemtimes) and a lot of the crew functionalities you mentioned missing. Essentially everything you mentioned as done badly in WT is in Arma 3, while everything you mentioned as good in WT, isn't in Arma 3 XD
Yes, it is a very realistic game, especially when driver optics can stop literally any round, or when i get hull broken by a round skimming the top of a vehicle Edit:apparently hullbreak got removed, i havent played in more than 3 months and i mostly played on and off before that
My main problem with Ground Forces is a map Selection. I would love to play Tanks on a map with 3km engagement distance, not CQB in the center of the cities
They don't care about players like you and me. The more WT became successful, the more WoT kiddies came over and demanded certain stuff with their money. Now WT is just WoT with extra steps.
Nice video and I can’t wait to see more of this series. Remember Gunner HEAT, PC ( ghpc )? Well the game progressed a ton! Yes, there are only four tanks, two APCs and two ATGM launchers at the moment, but that’s because they mainly focused on making those realistic and implementing mechanics such as crew voices from actual US tankers. Please do a video on it!
I mean its kinda hard to get( at least for me) but if it is hard i recommend downloading gunner heat pc, it littrally warthunder except the gameplay is realistic this time
@@noggamcstogga1756 GHPC has the same problems as WT for the entire time the game is out... and its not even free (unless you play outdated free public demos)
Also crew agreeably, is a factor for this realism. “Gunner aim the gun counter-clockwise in an elevated position, driver drift around the next left corner, load good luck loading the next shell with a broken arm.” Also, you already cover this topic later in the video. Well enjoy my comment.
Anyone who's played squad knows that. "Gunner, target bearing 193." And then the gunner continues to shoot at riflemen 2000m meters away while the hostile takes their time killing you.
Gunner Heat PC(GHPC) Next alldought its still early development would still by a good idea to make a video about its its a well balance between war thunder and Steel beast the are trying to make the game realistic as Steel beast(example ammo cook off depends on where what and how hot/fast the sharpnel hit the ammo) but still has the easy to use controlls from WT and Multiplayer is planned and Coop in a tank is planned to
Yes but my country's military has a handful of old M84s, the roster is full up so there's no open spaces to crew them and they don't deploy anywhere. Also I'd be _well_ over the height limit and we have no real airforce and very limited air assets in general - which also don't deploy anywhere. So I'd have to migrate to another country to join the armed forces - which was actually my plan but now I'm getting too old to do that too.
Rising storm: Red orchestra Heroes of Stalingrad. The Panzer IV Ausf. F2, Panzer III Ausf. L, T-70 and T-34 are available in the game with a full interior and seperate crew members which can be controlled by seperate players. The Gumrak map is tank only, Barashka has combined arms and further maps can be modded in.
Tank battles isnt realistic at all, the opposite actually. Tank and damage models can be realistic but if the gameplay is on the opposite spectrum (full arcade/fantasy) the game as a whole is just a joke. Penetration to crew compartment with half the crew dead; WT - No worries folks we'll just continue with the remaining crew Realism - bail out and gtfo Tanks encountering an enemy that cant be penned from the front WT - just aim for the barrel, he'll be out for the next 15-40secs so i can drive up and kill em from the side Realism - &^%$#!, i guess we'll have to find a way around otherwise we'll get FFed up Low caliber machineguns WT - ripping apart anything that isnt considered a medium tank or bigger and if that fails just aim for the barrel Realism - machineguns are for anti-personnel Anti-air WT - it's made for tank hunting because pewpew and breakable barrels is a thing Realism - Although used at vehicles in certain specific circumstances mostly its was used what it was built for, planes!
I do mostly agree with you, but there are some incorrect assumptions. Machine guns cannot take out gun barrels within a reasonable amount of time. Also, outside of some outliers, most SPAA isn’t good for tank hunting considering you can only pen tanks from the side. Barrels aren’t as soft as you think, it’s hard to aim at a small spot on a heavy tank, which makes heavy tanks still very powerful at close ranges. Also I don’t understand what you mean about killing half of the crew, you can survive on two crew members and in some vehicles only 1.
About changing out loaded ammo in a 120mm L44/55 and the clones of. That would be a very very rare thing to do. You have to take the breach opening lever from it's storrage point. Hand crank the breach open. Restore the lever. Grab the tool to pull out a cartridge. Pull the cartridge out with said tool. Restore the tool Carefully stow the ammo back in the ammo rack. THEN you can finaly take the desired ammo type and load it. A stupid thing to do.
Sorry guys, being a former Treadhead, this game is laughingly simplistic and arcadish, while tanks were dressed with arguably very good, detailed 3D appearance. I'd rather 'play' Steel Beast Pro for its realism and attention to details. Still, enjoy War Thunder for what it is, just don't say "Oh, its so real" to a real tanker :-)
Steel Beasts is also really good, its fully released and can let you play literally ANY scenario you want. Price is high but won’t be as much as the amount you spend on WT.
Guys can you please stop the "realism debate"? video GAMES are not simulators. of course War Thunder is not realistic, it was never meant to be; if your tank gets shot you can just respawn, you can play the same crew on that tank next game. what video games have is called "immersion", they pretend to have realistic mechanics but they never are because they are a game; and in order to design fun gameplay some sacrifices must be made.
I got into WoT first and certainly had fun with it, but then got into War Thunder after they put the BTR-152 in the game and never looked back. WT Ground Arcade is SUPER HARCCORE REALISM SIMULATOR compared to WoT.
@@Vilamus based response. I'm the same, played WOT for a year or so then tried war thunder and never looked back. the only World of ____ game I play anymore is world of warships just because war thunder naval isnt as fun for me.
@DestroyerTom If you even bothered to look in the description he says it’s not to say there op but to say they are good and the videos are for entertainment
6:30 As far as i know the only tank that can be controlled with one crew member in war thunder are the strv 103 tanks and they can be operated by one crew member in reallife
"The most unrealistic thing about handling is that one person controls the entire vehicle". I'm not sure about you, but I wouldn't like having Hans over here driving me off a cliff as I aim at another tank. (( joke ))
5:20 most modern tanks dont have that option OUTSIDE of very few situations that require you to manually unload the gun for safety in most nations doctrine it is normal to fire the current round rather than unloading and loading another, especially with tanks armed with the RH120mm due to the casings high chance of fracture when unloading. in many WW2 tanks its also outright not doable without special tools, because in many rifled guns loading actually starts the shell to seal on the rifling, thus making them near impossible to pull out again.
Warthunder does a good job at getting the simcade feeling. The physics of the game is decent enough (minus tank tracks lol) but it maintains enough arcade style to still be enjoyable. It’s the economy that’s ruined the game for me unfortunately. It’s been so bad lately that I’ve just uninstalled.
WoT players when they miss the target at 300m and abuse the game engine to send other tank flying through the air and glitch into the ground on Battle Starts: Realism
The thing is, no one wants a "realistic" tank simulator. Realistically being a tank commander isn't fun, that's why people are paid to do it as a job. In a realistic game you'd spend days waiting in game for an command, performing maintenance, then going on patrol not seeing any enemy for hundreds of hours. Then maybe you'd get killed by a plane or an IED. Hell, even in WT very few people play simulator mode. And of course every game is gonna have bugs
It would certanly not be an addictive mainstream game, but sure it would be very interesting to play at least a couple of times in the sense to feel how the real stuff works and how complicated and limited it actually is. Not the waiting hours (time compression could help) but I mean the more technical stuff, you would feel the limitations and potential of the equipament instead of just reading about it... defnitely would not be mainstream but it would be really cool :)
@@malokegames the problem is creating such a complicated game only for people to get bored of it quickly wouldn't make sense, it would be extremely expensive
@@antimatter4733 That's why AAA Studios focus on casual gaming, they are on it for the money only... but there is a success case with DCS, it's the most realistic military aviation simulation ever available to the public, it's real time, complex with fully functional cockpit buttons, and they have a decent comunity. This reflects on the price, each module is much more expensive than a normal game but we do have it for military aviation...
@@antimatter4733 There we go... Nobody is talking about THAT side or realism. Just realistically modeled tanks themselves are more than enough (just like it works for the planes in DCS). Also, if you were right, Steel Beasts Pro PE would've had perished years ago. But lo and behold, people are actually enjoying it and pay $125 for the license.
@@getsideways7257 are we picking aspects of realism we want and calling it realistic now? Doesn't sound too realistic to me in that case. And how many people play those games? A 100th of the players of wot and wt? Yeah like I said no one wants to play those games and they aren't even that realistic. Armor bugs happen in all games, even those sims, the difference is wt has wayyyy more vehicles so obviously there's gonna be more bugs, especially since the armor model and penetration calculations are regularly being updated and improved
First off - great video, thanks for bringing all these to light. I have been a long time fan of WT but have only been playing for a short time. I too love the realism in the game (especially when compared to the atrocity that is WOT), but I too would love to see a "hardcore" mode or at least the ability to create servers with settings for realistic damage, realistic crew effects, full on blood and gore effects etc. Here are some of my observations from your video. 1) Module damage realistic effects. I am all in favour of this. WT was the first game that I have ever seen that avoids the archaic and unrealistic "hit points" system, now they just need to extend it to make each and every module important. Hey, if it is important enough to model then it should be important enough to damage, right ? As a corollary to this I have long argued that WT should include crew damage from falls, rolls and serious hits. Rolling a Tiger tank off a 100 foot cliff should not only see half of the external modules damaged or destroyed (eg MGs, sights etc), it should also kill or wound half of the crew, if not set off a catastrophic explosion from loose rounds. 2) Repair times I would be in favour of a "hardcore" mode whereby repairs could only be carried out at a capture or spawn point and only if a designated repair unit was in play. Destroying a team's infrastructure, eg fuel trucks, repair vehicles, ammo trucks etc should be a major goal of the game. 3) Lag for aiming Again, I have long argued that there should be a lag to aim the guns or to get in to gear. The ability to finesse the aiming sight is the biggest concession to "arcade" in the game, I would love to see it retained only as a server side option. 4) Thermal noise If you watch any of the countless gun camera videos that came out of Afghanistan and Iraq one of the first things you will notice is just how "noisy" the field gets after a few rounds have been fired. Peppering an area with 30mm or even MG gun fire leaves LOTS of hot glowing smoke holes which obstruct the thermal view greatly. I for one would love to see thermals become a LOT less useful once the heat is on and the field is littered with shell craters and drifting smoke. 5) Station crew models Again, I know that Gaijin wants to cater to the biggest market possible but a server side "MA 18+" mode would be fantastic. Crew models for exposed commanders and MG gunners, realistic blood and gore effects for crew wounded and killed would add massively to the immersion. And while I am dreaming, this would finally allow them to add crew served guns (AI or player) and even infantry squads. Can you imagine how some of these city fights would change if you were worried about some lunatic jumping your tank from behind with an RPG, anti tank mine or Molotov ? Rock on baby !
The tank crew could actually die if you fall from a great enough height or if something heavy falls on top of you. Btw war thunder still uses a hit point system but its more complex (they used the module hit point system where certain module has a set amount of hit points).
@@gotanon8958 Yeah I know that hit points are buried under the code somewhere, but even having separate HP for modules is better than the WOT/WOWS "chop chop chop" system of eating HP until the target dies, usually at 100% combat capacity. Compare that to RL human AND vehicle damage in whihc losing combat capacity occurs when someone so much as sneezes but actual death/terminal destruction is actually kind of hard. A .22 long rifle round will make a person stop and bleed, but actually killing them (at least quickly) could take a dozen rounds or more.
Pls update bc they improved quite alot of problems IRspotlight doesn't show in NVD in the T-80U and T-80BVM rounds doens't go though objects like a plane, 652mm APFSDS can easly pen a plane but ingame it doesn't, a 5mm thick steel or a grain of sand blocks entire APFSDS 4:20 my Leopard 2A6 and especially 2PSO (wihtout dozer) gets stuck on small rocks when (atleast) Russian tanks just bounce over those rocks. IRL the rocks would move by Russian tanks and gets run over or pushed by Leopards
War Thunder is nowhere near realistic. I can still remember that I slaughtered hell of a lot King Tigers with my ASU-85, who thought they were invisible in long range duels on the Kursk map. I could feel their confusion when they were hit by HEAT rounds coming out of nowhere. And yes, I once got obliterated by a missile when I was in a King tiger or maybe Panther Ausf A I think... Well, fair enough, that’s some realistic gameplay
The traction nerf. Tanks used to have a much more realistic handling (although they did ‘stick’ to slopes unrealistically) but due to people taking advantage of poorly designed elements in the maps that allowed them to get outside the designated AO, Gaijin did their thing. Instead of fixing the map problems one by one as a conscientious producer would do they just reduced the friction of all vehicles so now tanks can skate around like they’re on ice in some ridiculous places. Typical Gaijin ‘monkey paw’ fixing. Great (nearly, anyway) game. Appalling publisher/developer who seems to completely disrespect its customers.
War Thunder: Fun yes. It provides a Tank V tank death match game. Not realistic. The main purpose of tanks is Infantry support and destroying hard points to keep the momentum of battle moving forward. Destroying other tanks is a secondary task, though it's historically been the most glorified task. In the real world commanders if they have the options available to them will attack tanks with Air power, Infantry with ATGM's and assorted other means before considering putting his tanks against enemy tanks. They're just too valuable to throw into a toe to toe tank vs tank fight and this would only be done as a last resort. Traditionally real tanks carry loads of HE and a few Armor piercing rounds in case they run into enemy armor. Their ammo loadout reflects their utilization. War Thunder has done some game modes that are more "realistic" such as it's recent experimentation with "single player" non-pvp mode where you, with a team, had to engage NPC tanks and infantry. However it's bread and butter will always be a Team death match Tank v Tank PVP. Honestly I'd say the tank use in their new game "Enlisted" is more "realistic" for the purpose and mission of tanks compared to War Thunder and would give you a far more "realistic" taste of what it would be like in combat with as a tank crewman.
Warthunder is very close to reality. Every month there are meetings between top tank commanders and they brief eachother on what needs to be adjusted in the game to make it more realistic. No other game does this
How about a new game called "Modern Warships" it's not exactly realistic due to the devs nerfed the ships. but the graphics and effects are realistic. (it's more of World of Warships but modern version lmao)
The truth is that no matter what you think, War Thunder has 0 competition. There is no other game that combines naval, land and air forces as this one. You can find a better simulator for flight? Yes, but it's expensive and it's just that. For naval and land? Absolutely 0 alternatives from a realistic point of view. If they managed to combine Enlisted with this...hella amazing.
The error if war thunder is to have WW2 tanks (outdated) with from modern to cold war era tanks (updated) not an conception idea for an strategy video Game...👓😶...🤨
How about Squad? There are tanks there, if you're lucky enough to ever drive one. Closest I've gotten is commanding a BMP crew, none of whom were very cooperative.
You may already have this on the list, but a game that has slightly less realistic technicals than war thunder but has massively more realistic gameplay is Squad. Tanks are operated by multiple people, there's almost no arcade type game play, and you must set up a repair station to fix you're tank. That said the tanks models aren't as detailed as War thunder. You can't take out individual modules on the tank and most tanks have identical damage (say Dm33 and M829a4). So I'd again say it has less realistic technicals but makes up for it for vastly more realistic tank gameplay overall.
Dude i was playing world of tanks mobile and i realized how shitty WOT is cuz when you hit the ammo nothing happens same when you hit a gun barrel and omfg the spotting system makes WT Air RB look like it’s perfect
you forgot the best and most realistic part, where a 152mm armour piercing high explosive shell travelling faster than sound will not penetrate the flat 40mm thick side of a panther because it hit the part where the plate under the tracks and the plate above the tracks are joined by a 10mm thick sheet of kruppstahl ))))))))
Maybe wt should introduce some ultra realistic game mode, where for example you have to make a squad where every single person is one crew member. And it would also be cool as many people pointed out that there is infantry involved. Problem with switching ammo is stupideiest thing ever, even world of tanks has that, and its necesery if you do want to switch ammo type "stealhy" Gun sight and radiator beign destroyed should be relativly easy things to implement, after all if we buy bunch of premium tanks and accounts, gajin by now certinaly has money to keep up such projects
Good one. The thing about these games that puts me off the most is the combination of fantasy with real tanks or planes. If I wanted to play the battle of grodno or Kursk I can't, because there will be British and American and French tanks. Or the bombing of England, it should be leave from France, navigate with a bombing group and fly for at least 15 minutes and then drop bombs on said target and gtfo. Not appear in the sky with god knows what plane right in the shit and take out enemy craft. Its for kids, all of it and I will always take a pass. Either make it real as possible or make star wars. You can't be a little bit pregnant.
This is an older video, but War thunder is still so. realistic arcare. But some time ago Gunner, Heat, PC was released. how about a short review of this game?
The reason why i play war thunder is because it’s for me the best combination of arcade and realistic. I basically only play the rb gamemode because as I said it’s for me the perfect balance between arcade and realism. Something like world of tanks is way to arcade like for me and all other games I’ve tried have either been the same or the complete opposite. Where it’s to realistic and I need to take months to learn a single vehicle. (I’m talking both air and ground here but mostly ground) I have Dcs and I play it somewhat but it’s honestly mostly to get awesome screenshots and mess around with friends. If I really want to go Air to air I play War Thunder because it’s easier to learn and realistic enough to where it feels good.
Gameplay wise, it's indeed one of the most realistic games around.. but one thing that quite bothers me is that all mbts even the (supposed to be)55-60 tonned vehicles are classified as "medium tanks" instead of having their own class
How realistic tanks in WT? Not realistic at all. Tanks are supposed to support infantry, yet there’s no infantry at all, so it’s a big boiling clusterfuck :)
One thing that destroys atmosphere personally to me is a kill cam. So nice feature that works so bad. As for my opinion, it should be switched off during battle and available on replays. Because nobody can evaluate damage in such way in real battle. Its existence is competitive decision of gameplay that allows player to control everything, that is far from realism and fun at all
