After 12yrs in the hobby I’ve finally gotten myself a drilled tank and was able to run Herbie for the first time it’s definitely rewarding.

How would I convert my dual mega overflow to a herbie? Would I keep one return running and run an emergency on the other side? Then the other two drains full siphon? I’m trying to get more turnover in my tank. I’m over the dursos because they’re noisy and I had to cut the flow down a ton to stop the noise

I would think you could do either way. I think maybe doing a regular and emergency in each overflow would be the nicest. I don't think it would matter as I think about it, but maybe to be safe in case something would happen with one of the overflows.

In rehabbing a used tank I got 4 holes, 2 returns and two drains. They are the same height with upside down u. Looks like a big candy cane. With holes drilled in u. Can this just be cut down 6 inches like you did. I dont know what the previous owner was trying to accomplish!!!!. But in replumbing I got gates to adjust, I'm baffled at this point. Helppppppp

If you're pump stopped for some reason would you tank drain all the way to the main drain level ?

Looks like it should only drain down to the edge of the wier and whatever amount of water that is in the overflow down to the main drain.

No need to have two unless you have a crazy amount of turnover.

Agreed with Matthew, and you also take away the backup in case something clogs the first main drain...so I would hesitate at using both as the main and not having an emergency.

Yep, that is what this tank has as well, which is why I made the specialty bracket for the return. But you wouldn't need both to be drains if that is what your tank is set up for anyways, unless you're wanting a ton more flow going through the sump.
