Considering the size of this tanker, that wave at 50 seconds is HUGE! It's got to be at least 60 ft/ 20 m high, if not more..I am glad the Croatian sailor and this crew made it safely through this storm!
@@markobrkanic - To zavisi o puno faktora, godišnjem dobu geografskoj širini ruti, a prilično i o srići.
Ship; tanker PULA Croatia (built in Rijeka Croatia 2006 in shipyard 3.Maj), Length x Breadth x Draft: 182 m x 32 m x 12,24m Gross Tonnage: 27,547, DeadWeight: 47,300 t Speed recorded (Max / Average): 11.5 / 11.3 knots Video Recorded: 3.12. 2007, west coast of USA, and for those who ask about the song: it is about seaman at sea longing for his loved one at home
My God!!! I spent 10 years in the Navy and have been through some of the roughest seas in the world but that footage just blows me away. That is some seriously huge waves.
I always show this video to non-sailors. To show them a moment of our life at Sea. To show them how We feel. What We see. What we go through at Sea. Respect to all seaman all over the world and a BIG love from me guys.
Well, i am a seafare as well. Really very long-term (engine department). But, your statement here is just a big, fat piece of hypocisy. U see, mate, people are workin' all 'round the globe. And i can tell ya, it could be REALLY very dangerous, even without any big storm outside. You're confused. May be, it's all about that you have literally no idea, what ya're talking 'bout. May be you're just defending your own salary, which is way bigger, than most of the workers could possibly get on shores.
From 1.35 is the definition of pure terror on the high seas. The period is of the waved short and the height 80ft. I don't imagine many ships could withstand too much of this. Huge respect to the crew of this boat. If this was my first voyage I'd probably get off and it would be my last.
Despite the proliforation of camera phones, this is still the best one on youtube in my view - just absolutely massive waves, and you can almost feel the vibrations through the ship as well as hear them. Kudos to the cameraman for getting such steady footage, and letting people see a piece of a world that most of us couldn't have dreamt of seeing a few years ago. Terrifying and compelling at the same time, a wonderful piece of footage.
I'm pretty sure that a couple of these waves for instance the one the ship is heading into at 0:50 must be very close to the maximum wave hight possible on open sea, which is 30 meters/100ft. Completely nuts conditions. This is the end-station of RU-vid's Ship-in-storm videos.
I was at sea for over thirty years. I have spent 25 years in the North Sea and the rest of the time in the North Atlantic and Mediterranean. In all that time I never saw anything as impressive as that.
105 feet wide and it looks like a toy in that storm. My hat is off to the welders and designers as it has to be a well built ship to withstand this. Judging the height of the waves by the width of the boat there is not much difference at around 1:58.
I was watching this video since the beginning. Amazing video clip with music. Also, I remember there was one comment, the video clip made for his girlfriend at that time...
You are sailing since 2016 and you seen it thousand of times 😂 and i am since 2000 sailing all over North pacific, Bering sea and North pacific where this kind of waves are and in over 20 years i seen this kind of waves maybe 10-15 times and few times bigger. Maybe you are on small boat, some fisherman then waves looks to you huge comparing to ship 😂
Odraz ponosa i provincijske naravi vidljivi su u spotu. Svim pomorcima kojima su ovakvi kadrovi jako dobro poznati vjerujem da spot doživljavaju emotivno. More 8 do 10 na skali su doživljaj. Ovakvi trenuci izgrađuju čovjeka u bolje, čvršće i odgovornije biće.
The best clip on you tube. Storm, power, ocean, the cruel power of nature. Nikad prije nisam vidio nasto slicno, najbolji clip na you tubu.
Thank you from all my heart for the video and the song. Looking at the ship I think of my father who was also seaman at tankers. As for the song - our Slav souls are able to understand it. God bless you and keep you and your mates on your seaways. Thanks again!
The swells @1:40 ~ 2:12 are HUGE! Those are running near 50 feet tall (five story buildings). The stresses created in the hull of that ship are incredible!
Borat Erali Nazarbayev they would go out of their way to avoid storms like this in the first place, its only because its so big that theyre taking the chance and braving it
Borat Erali Nazarbayev Not to mention they didn't have any way of predicting the weather to give a forecast for the future. Storms and weather today is more extreme than it was back then (on average), but still nothing to scoff at. Lots of ships did sink, killing a lot of people. But I guess the human spirit and perseverance prevailed, and people kept at it, instead of letting fear get the better of them =)

Molimo oprosti prijevod nikakve pogreske.
This has to be the most terrifying ship in storm video I have ever seen. I guess it's safe or they wouldn't go out, right? But I can't help wondering how a ship like that doesn't break in half with the tremendous stresses on it. Incredible. I'm sure I would be hysterical with fear.
VERY scary! Thanks for the fascinating look at a world few of us get to see, and for reminding us of how dangerous the seafaring life is. We owe much to these brave men and women of the sea!
I sailed as an engineer on bulk ships for a few years, but we never saw any weather like this in the North Atlantic. We did have an engine room fire once that put us in at the Azores for a month making repairs. After retirement though, I did see a few days of these conditions sailing a 33' boat in the Southern Ocean.

I've been working at sea since I was 18 and I've yet to encounter that. I've seen some nasty conditions...but that's on another level! Well done to the crew for holding fast and not letting her slip beam on!

ı study marine engineering and ı listened this music before so long time(maybe as i child) and when ı listen this music ı would fell as if ı was at the middle of the ocean. After 2 year ı am going to be onboard and i am going to listen this music in first storm that ı am going to face.ı know struggling with hard things onboard during storm by listening this music is going to be extremely hard but ı wonder how am ı gonna feel when ı start to watch giant waves outside while huge waves hit to the hull of ship.Respect to all seafarers
I’ve worked in the North Sea for a few years, not on ships but on a drilling crew on an offshore oil platform.. I can’t say it happened often, but I do recall occasions when we were hit by waves like this. They seem to advance towards you like a succession of mountain ridges, the sheer scale makes them appear to approach in slow motion. Of course we were perched up high but we put a lot of faith in the integrity of the structural design beneath us. And still they kept us working. I remember being halfway up the Derrick, my safety harness clipped to the framework, when my hard hat blew off; I watched it disappear in the sky towards Norway without falling.
Incredible. Not very many have experienced mother nature's power in that way. I have been in a major earthquake, so I have seen the power the earth can show in another way. To me it's scale is so much more than us as individuals it's fascinating and changing.
I was there on the spot on M/T Pula during this storm but I was unable to calculate height of the seas from the ship itself. According to information from land station in this area of Nord Pacific at that time, height of the seas was 20 - 25 meters.
0:45 That wave is the biggest wave I have ever seen. It looks like the entire tanker fits on it. Looks as if that POS is 300 feet high (from crest to through).
Saint Nicolas always near to you!!My grandfather before years and now my uncle is in the same post in the sea...I understand these situation very well!!Strong and healthy to your families...
thank you, it was honor to work on such a project as this ship in this video.and my duty was to do my part of the given task as the best as i can.. and i think we did.. mirno more,i trdo spreda svima koji od mora zive.
No thanks, I couldn't do that. I see all these videos about giant waves, this is the first that do look big and frightening. My feet are staying on solid ground thankyou 👍🇦🇺
I would say that these are the highest waves ever recorded not caused by tectonic disturbances, volcanoes or meteors but only by wind power. In my estimation, they go over 30 meters in height. Truly epic!
The master is doing a good job here. The vessel is hove too with the engines running just enough so that the rudder is effective but she is making little headway. Sea coming at a slight angle to the bow makes the ship most comfortable with as few stresses as is possible to the hull.
Yes, she would be hove to and not trying to make any headway. However she would be in great danger. The difficulty would be in keeping her head to the sea. Would need to stream a sea anchor from the bow to achieve this. After having done that then I would recommend prayer, to the god of your choosing !
The heaviest weather I have seen, freak waves all over the place, incredible footage. Of course the music is the choice of the sailor. Who dares to challenge the taste of some one sailing this weather?! I love it! Because it is the personal choise of the person who uploaded this incredible images and sounds.... Where is this filmed? Thank you Tomaslavseput, for uploading!
I have watched this over and over. It is the only time I have heard this song, and I love it. I wish I knew what he was saying. He sings with emotion and confidence. Perfect for this epic video.
I'm thinking the largest wave in the video here is probably around 90ft. For a ship this size, just about 600ft long, the bridge is probably 80ft off the water line, if not more. That wave is clearly as tall if not taller than the bridge, so it's gotta be anywhere from 70 to 90+ feet depending on the height of the bridge. Absolutely insane, I haven't seen a video on RU-vid yet with a taller wave.
Isn't amazing how the ship is strong enough to stay together... I mean the hanging tonnage and forces pushing against the hull are immense... great engineering.
At 00:45, when I saw that baby coming my way, I'd be up the back of the bridge, curled up pissing & shitting myself.. And praying to God I may live to see sweet land again..
Same here but add crying and sucking my thumb while holding a life raft and survival suit. The sound of the boat creaking would send wet, hot shit out of me by the bucket.
Extraordinary. You start to think of water getting into the day tanks through vents, or sludge being agitated and overwhelming the separators or... anyway brave crew and a brave ship.
Tanker "Pula" designed and built in shipyard "3. Maj" from Rijeka, Republic of CROATIA. Year 2006th! It is, length and width: 182.4m x 32.2m. All who writing stupid comments, would be nice to educate your self's before comment! And no Croatia it's not and never been part of Russia (Croatia is quite far from Russia) and we are not speaking Russian language, than Croatian language what is quite different language!
This is great on many levels - insane power of Earth, great knowledge of people, that had built this ship, and musicians, that made this neat song :) Holy shit...i'd love to be there..
this is song that sailor put for some woman, and song is beautiful, you just don't understand it. people who share his destiny and come from that part of world understand him..great song
Ships are build to bend if they were stiff, they'd snap like chips. All those stiffeners, bullhead design by naval architecture plays crucial rule. And ships sink 90% due to human error. Bad passage planning and irregulae loading of cargo resulting in losing stability.
1 The LORD reigns, he is robed in majesty; the LORD is robed in majesty and is armed with strength. The world is firmly established; it cannot be moved. 2 Your throne was established long ago; you are from all eternity. 3 The seas have lifted up, O LORD, the seas have lifted up their voice; the seas have lifted up their pounding waves. 4 Mightier than the thunder of the great waters, mightier than the breakers of the sea-- the LORD on high is mighty. 5 Your statutes stand firm; holiness adorns your house for endless days, O LORD. Psalm 93 and Jesus calmed the raging storm by a command from his lips Mark 4:35-41New International Version (NIV) Jesus Calms the Storm 35 That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” 36 Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. 37 A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. 38 Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” 39 He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. 40 He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” 41 They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”
To me this is a very grave message...our lives are so hard at times and we need to sail away like this amidst all odds, against all storms and all countless ruthless happenings i.e waves.... lots of thanks to who created this amazing video.
