Geographical Information:
Tanquã is an extensive floodplain located on the banks of the Piracicaba River, made up of an intricate network of canals, lagoons, swamps and lush vegetation.
The Tanquã wetland is fed by the periodic floods of the Piracicaba River, resulting in an aquatic environment rich in nutrients and wildlife.
The flat topography and hydrological characteristics of Tanquã contribute to the formation of a seasonally flooded landscape, which attracts several species of birds, fish and other aquatic animals.

Historical Information:
Tanquã has a rich and diverse history. Originally inhabited by indigenous people, it was later explored by European colonizers.
In the 19th century, Tanquã played a vital role in Piracicaba's local economy, serving as a transport route for goods and agricultural production.
Over the years, the region has witnessed significant changes, including agricultural expansion and nearby urban development.
However, conservation efforts have been implemented to preserve Tanquã's biodiversity and natural beauty, including the creation of an environmental preservation area (APA) in 2001.
Today, Tanquã is an important birdwatching site and an ecotourism destination, allowing visitors to appreciate its unique nature and its connection with local history.
