"how could you ask this of us, the fate of the world weights heavy on our hearts, but if I must, I will pilot this monstrous thing." powerful lyric even if it's about an anime I've never watched.
I think the best part about the comments on this video are the different anime Aleks is telling people the song is about. Guys. It's about Card Capture Sakura. Come on.
I'll be trying my best to transcribe the songs in V&V, it's the least what I can do after being presented with such an awesome album. Starting with this one. Plus, I want to make it a bit easier for Aleks, considering his injury. My native language isn't English, so there will undeniably be some mistakes in it. Please correct them if you see any. Nevertheless, enjoy it! *The Pilot* A sigh of relief. to give up, to release this desperate cling, to a life that means nothing to me, would be so sweet. But I can’t afford to concede. I’ll be lost with a single defeat. Could he call me with pride; the fruit of his seed? It’s an impossible dream. How could you ask this of us? The fate of the world weighs heavy on our hearts. But if I must. I will pilot this monstrous thing. Feeling abandoned, you cast me aside. I know it kills you inside. But it wasn’t just you, she left behind. You mark a child as disposable. Over the puppet you coddle, of which there were countless Now his blood is on my hands. How could you ask this of us? The fate of the world weighs heavy on our hearts. But if I must. I will pilot this monstrous thing. How could you ask this of us? The fate of the world weighs heavy on our hearts. But if I must. I will pilot this monstrous thing. Kept safe by a mother’s heart. And bathed in another’s blood, From which I grow in search of futile love. How could you ask this of us? The fate of the world weighs heavy on our hearts. But if I must. I will pilot this monstrous thing. How could you ask this of us? The fate of the world weighs heavy on our hearts. But if I must. I will pilot this monstrous thing.
I constantly come back to the song when the suicidal feelings get hold. Those opening lines "A sigh of relief, to give, up to release this desperate cling to a life that means nothing to me would be so sweet" hits so hard to me. But I always remind myself "But I can't afford to concede, I'd be lost to a single defeat", and it helps a lot.
Great dedication to Spice and Wolf! I transcribed the lyrics as best I could. Let me know if you think I made a mistake, and I'll do my best to correct it. A sigh of relif To give up To release this desperate cling To a life that means nothing to me Would be so sweet But I can't afford to concede I'll be lost with a single defeat Could he call me with pride? The fruit of his seed? It's an impossible dream [Chorus:] How could you ask this of us? The fate of the world weighs heavy on our hearts But if I must... I will pilot this monstrous thing! Feeling abandoned, you cast me aside I know it kills you inside But it wasn't just you she left behind You mark a child as disposable Over the public you coddle (of which there are countless) Now his blood is on my hands! [Chorus x2] Kept safe by a mother's heart And bathed in another's blood From which I crawl in search of futile life [Chorus x2] (Who-o-o-o-oah)
On another note, I think the line about "a futile life" is a tad antithetical to Eva's theme (or at least it's ending), but otherwise the song's pretty damn spot on. ...Granted, the lyrics are clearly supposed to be from Shinji's perspective, and I'd be lying through my teeth if I said he never felt like life was worthless. But at least he cheered up (sorta) at the end.
Oh wait... (Looks at comments below) yeah what a dumb question. Everyone's rock hard for interpretation. For me I say this is about Space dandy or hideo Kohima's MGS franchise
You mark a child as disposable. Over the puppy you coddle, Of which there were countless Now his blood is on my hands. When you know what its about it makes it so much more
Is this about Bokurano: Ours? Also, do you just have a straight up list of anime about cute girls doing cute things that you have saved for smartass replies?
Aleks K. You should be proud of your inner weaboo Aleks. The only thing you shouldn't be proud of is your inner Chuuni. I know way to many terms for this shit.
Always see this song as an anchor and im so thankful for Alex and everyone involved in Tanooki, its so relatable beyond just the surface of the anime this is inspired by "The fate of the world weighs heavy on our heart" will be on my tombstone.
all you people guessing anime and movies are clearly in the wrong here. they're singing about my Eve online career, duh. monstrous things? fate of the world? feeling like you HAVE to do shit? can't be anything else!
Oh yeah! I forgot they wrote a song about Lovely Complex! :^D No but joking aside this song is just plain GOOD. I could never get bored of it, and the more I've learned about composition the more I appreciate it
+Shay Miller I'm pretty sure its Eva. "You mark a child as disposable over the puppet you coddle (of which there are countless)" and "Kept safe by a mother's heart, and bathed in another's blood" just scream Eva to me.
This Sounds like a dumb question, but I feel inclined to ask it, do you have any tips on singing if you want to get better for someone who wants to kinda make a living out of it, Aleks?
+christian oneill Lessons and daily practice, just like anything else. There are many ways singing can be applied. Are you looking to start a band or do theatre?
+Aleks K. More or less a band, singing is something I do regularly so, and I need help in certain points of it, like I need to try and see if I can do a scream. Breathing for me is difficult during something longer than a minute or so.
christian oneill Yeah, if you're having trouble breathing, take lessons. I'm of the opinion that everyone should, no matter how good or bad they are, you learn about proper breathing, control, etc. Screaming can be REALLY dangerous btw, even if you do it properly, it can rip apart your throat and do serious damage overtime, so keep that in mind.
+Aleks K. Alright I'll keep that in mind, whether or not I would wanna try it, thank you Aleks, you were a great help. Also, the Chie thing during the Yasogami High thing, did you originally write that, with the hilarious 'waifu' topic involved or was it supposed to be serious?
+Weiss Schnee Half of the shit I named I havent even watched in full because it's weeaboo trash. Just naming the most ridiculous stupid stuff i could remember.
Have you guys ever considered writing a song about Aokigahara Forest? seems right up this bands alley and id love to hear yalls rendition of it for a song.
+starkill877 The Suicide Forest? No, not something I would ever write about. I'm not close enough to it, it would feel disrespectful to the people who have died there. - Aleks
+starkill877 If other people want to reference it, that's their prerogativ, and I won't judge them for that, but I wouldn't be comfortable doing it myself. It's just not my place to comment on or reference it; it would feel inappropriate. - Aleks
Honestly, we use BIAS AMP and FX by Positive Grid. Amazing VSTs. I'll never own a real amp ever again. The tones we built for our new album are even better, I can't wait for ya'll to hear them :D
Haha ok! Do you think that you'll be doing anything live in the future? I saw that in one of your videos a while back you said you lived in Framingham, and, as luck would have it, I do too!
Tanooki Suit aah i see! :D So that everyone can make his own interpretation to this song? Atleast that would make sense for me and furthermore i feel not like an idiot. :) yes. Yes, it's clearly Evangelion - and nobody can take that from me!! (except 3rd impact) :(
Ah man! I just spent some time googling to look up some of the answers you gave people. I guess if thats how things are.... Id make my interpretation be Gundam Wing. Fucking loved that show as a kid... Seeing teenagers run suicide missions in monstrously powerful machines. They never did get to use those self destruct buttons.
+Tanooki Suit don't get me wrong, I totally dig the slice of life genre, I'm just more inclined to characters, not character archetypes. on a side note, fantastic album! 10/10 would buy again.
