Oh my gosh. I think I just heard the culmination of the sum total of human existence, emotion, and achievement compacted into 5 mins and 32 secs. This is the equivalent of dancing about architecture. I loved it! Thanks!
There is something within her that connects me with nature on a deeper level that seems to defy all that I know. I am overwhelmed by the strangeness of the sounds which seem to come from the soul of mother nature, herself.
There is something very primal about Tanya's throat singing. She moved several of us to tears a few years back at Vancouver Island Music Festival, where she is returning this July.
There are so many cultures around the world that have a variation of throat singing. We get so used to thinking Western music is the only way to go. It's so good to remember traditions.
I came here from watching videos about Tuvan throat singing. I was sort of familiar with Inuit throat singing before, but I had never heard a whole performance of it. I will say that while I totally respect and admire what she is doing, it imbues me with a deep anxiety to listen to it. I don't find it therapeutic for me at all in the same way I do the Tuvan throat singing.
i know some finnish female singers who do this kind of chants, i don't know if there they have a similar tradition or they had taken fron the inuit, but it's very interesting the similitude :)
+Arthur Grande, the Inuit! This styling is very personal, and non-traditional, but beautiful nonetheless. There are several videos on RU-vid of the traditional songs. Check them out! :)
I always imagine how hard this would be to learn and what training she must have to make the sound she does. The sound is so primal and sounds strange to us who are used to "traditional" music. I often wonder if it hurts her throat at all. i first saw part of a performance on TV and found it moving and strange. As I said it's a very primal sound....put to music though as it was for the show "Arctic Air" it can be very beautiful too.
I was listening at this without looking at the video and couldn´t stop laughing because I thought it sounded like some sort of goblin porn... Still pretty itneresting
+alonzoai you're not alone. It sounds like a gremlin climaxing, saying hitler at 50 secs. Then starts up again constipated with a fever +Akhil Singh yh that burp was struggling. Ppl start watching from 3:55 it's less distressing there. Interesting how different things suit different people. I didn't like this but others seemed to. Fair play.
I just heard about throat singing and was checking some videos out, when I came across this performance. I had to turn it off as it sounded like she is having sex for most of it. Kind of disturbing sounding , but then, that is just because I'm not used to it. I have heard others that I think are just beautiful.
kinda interesting, overtone singing brought me here but these sounds looks like orgasm and burp at the same time.. if I go down the street and I try to do this I'm pretty sure people would call ambulance to take me to a mental institution!
I'm finding this quite ridiculous and I'm a very open-minded man. There are some things that are just asking too much of my personal level of audio comfort... this is that.
(alonzoai) you not the only one.... She's doing it all WRONG!!! thats not how inuit people throat sing. That's like fake kind. You have to do it from the deep down inside you!
I guess if you can't sing, you can always groan and grunt, and hope that someone will pay you for it. I sure couldn't call this 'singing' or 'music'. Political correctness has brought us to this. LOL!!!
