Tanya Tagaq’s music isn’t like anything you’ve heard before. Unnerving and exquisite, Tagaq’s unique vocal expression may be rooted in Inuit throat singing but her music has as much to do with electronica, industrial and metal influences as it does with traditional culture. This Inuk punk is known for delivering fearsome, elemental performances that are visceral and physical, heaving and breathing and alive. Her shows draw incredulous response from worldwide audiences, and Tagaq’s tours tend to jump back and forth over the map of the world.

My son has adhd and trouble falling asleep. There’s something about Tanya Tagaq’s voice(s) and the music that is deeply soothing to him. Thank you! Love from our Slovene-Canadian family

Hi from Slovenia! :D One thing you can look into is ASMR videos/sounds, some of them are really good at helping me sleep.

This is the sound of the universe,of the world we live in , of the spirits who surround us, the creatures we share our world with, primal and deeply human. I love her brilliance and her story telling

Absolutely Beautiful, uniquely cultural and Incredible. It’s my belief that the “ SAVAGES “ who came to North America tried to destroy in our my Tribes but we maintained many traditions. Only by God grace, my sister and my daughter still sing 🎤 our Traditional Songs. I applaud you my sister for carrying on with the throat singing. 🙇🏻‍♀️🎶🎵🎶🎵🕊👏🏽 Just a mesmerizing and stunning Performance. Thanks for posting this. It’s awesome that people were asked to leave if this was something they had no interest in hearing. On the last post of Throat Singers...I had to report many harassment and hateful comments. I pray the Creator teaches them what and how it feels like to experience prejudice and discrimination. Please if you’ve got only hate to spew out stop viewing. STOP 🛑 making disgusting and ignorant comments.

I heard this show live at the KenCen -- it was the most compelling performance I've heard in many years. Absolutely stunning. Her intro was so quiet, it was a surprise to hear the power of her voice. Not everybody liked it, some left mid-performance, and that was OK with her.

She has defiantly maintained that "call and response" aspect with the instrumental side of the songs in lieu of a singing partner. Her shy humor is so sweet.I cannot get enough of how the music just consumes her. I want to see her live. Bucket list item all day long.

Was fortunate enough to see Tanya, Jesse, and Jean in London a week before this performance. The incredible thing is just how different the two gigs were. They are all so talented.

Racist, disgusting cultural appropriation. Stealing an ancient musical tradition for mere commercialization. You should be ashamed.

She is Canadian Inuk...This IS her culture. She explains as much in the first couple minutes of the video.
@richthomas4363
@richthomas4363 3 года назад
@@jamieyanda Exactly my point. She has no business performing alongside a violin, and using electric lights and sound equipment. She's appropriating European culture. It's disgusting, and anyone supporting this is racist.
@jamieyanda
@jamieyanda 3 года назад
@@richthomas4363 Racist towards whom? Europeans? I think “European culture” will be just fine.
@richthomas4363
@richthomas4363 3 года назад
@@jamieyanda So...cultural appropriation is a bad thing when done by some races of people, but is "just fine" when done by other groups. Which means you think some races are just better than others. I wonder if there's a term for that.
@jamieyanda
@jamieyanda 3 года назад
@@richthomas4363 You have a pretty rigid definition of cultural appropriation. If you're not white, it's racist to use electricity, lighting, or orchestral instruments? And anyway, "European culture" is also not a monolithic culture. I also just don't really care about this debate.
