Tanzania Arrests Opposition Leaders To Block Protest Against President Hassan | Firstpost Africa
Leaders of Tanzania's main opposition CHADEMA party were among 14 members briefly arrested in Dar es Salaam as police attempted to block a banned demonstration against President Samia Suluhu Hassan's government. CHADEMA said that its chairman, Freeman Mbowe, was taken into custody as he was preparing to lead a peaceful protest against alleged killings and abductions of government critics in recent times. As Opposition leaders were detained in Dar es Salaam, President Hassan was seen enjoying a traditional game of Mancala in the country's south. Her indifference to the crackdown on Opposition was widely slammed on social media.
