I had a mechanic shop put a bigger back wheel, a 150cc engine, a custom modified rear frame to accommodate the bigger wheel, and they did all this for $550. After that it did 70mph, and still has about 70mpg. It became "not a toy" after that. Crazy fun, remained super reliable, but eventually got stolen. Upshot of that is you don't have to register as a 150 and get your endorsement. This is an amazing bike, even without upgrading to a 150.
@@carlosnino4393 1400 I believe, may have to pay more if you buy online but I recommend getting a used one and having a mechanic hook it up with a new engine if needed and new parts.
For those that are in debate of this bike going fast . You can upgrade the piston but the max for the motor is only 100cc . For this model like most 50cc frames the motor mounts are on the bottom . Now they make 150cc motors with the motor mounts on the bottom . But those cost around $600 to $700 and they are long case engines . The Roma Hornet scooter is a 150cc but the motor mounts on that bike are on the bottom . But Roma Hornets cost like $1500+ . This Tao Tao Racer is like 1k to 1200 . So buy this bike register it as a 50cc . Then just buy the Roma Hornet motor and engine swap . Now you got a 150cc motor on a Tao Tao Racer . The engine bore on the Roma bike is 165.5 , which will allow you to upgrade the piston to 63mm which the sleeve on the head is 164mm makes it a perfect fit . That big bore kit will bring you to 188cc . Then get a 2.5mm stroker arm for more to set you at 196cc . Your scooter sill now be extremely fast for a registered 50cc .
This is all True, 100% accurate, a great shop will charge $500-600 but that's dirt cheap lol I got charged $550 for the 150cc motor. They had it in stock and everything. They welded a new frame, put a larger back wheel and everything. Only thing I wouldn't agree with is doing a BBK on the 150. It's totally doable, but the stock 150 is fast enough and will last longer without the BBK. At that point you should just get a used ninja 250 lol. Still, you are 100% accurate with your comment. I LOVE THESE BIKES!!!
Yes, bikers on super sports will ALWAYS approach you and go "WTF is THAT TINY WHEEL?!" They are always intrigued and interested in getting one for their kids hahaha.
How did you switch it from military time to 12hrs? All I could do is change the time on the clock, then I see 01,02.Mine came with a different handbook for another 50cc motorcycle.
ru-vid.comGzMqg56KQWE?feature=share 👆Top Speed, 52mph with BBK. (Downhill run) without a BBK it goes about 35-39mph depending on your weight, wind drag, etc.
And if you find a mechanic to put a 150cc engine in like I did, you can keep it registered as a 150 because a cop will never notice and call you out, unless you're being crazy doing 65mph in a side street.
If you change the displacement or top speed you will need insurance, a motorcycle endorsement, a tag and you will pay taxes as if it's a motorcycle in every state in America. Kinda defeats the purpose and puts you at risk riding a rigged moped that was never designed to be a motorcycle. There is a reason that it's a moped and putting a bigger engine and tires on it doesn't change that super simple fact. Want a moped? Get one. Want a motorcycle? Get one. Rigging a moped to be a motorcycle? Foolishness.
Nah you guys are stupid as fuck if you don't know that your bikes have 3 gallon tanks. There aren't different versions floating around with different tank capacities. It's a 3 gallon tank, only, forever, and will never change.
Yea but you have to realize that a bigger back wheel changes the gearing to the ground. They simply bolt on the same gy6 or 139qmb to the frame and changing the back wheel size (even one inch bigger) gears it up to a point that you can't get started from a dead stop and would run way faster if you could even get it rolling. A 2 inch bigger wheel would make this thing too slow to pull out into traffic and would wear it (engine/tranny) out in no time. It's not a look thing it's a redesign that they won't (and can't) afford to do for many reasons. Most importantly money, second is legality. So bolt on a moped motor or redesign it and deal with a DOT problem? Bottom line? Get a motorcycle and go through the endorsement process or use the thousands of motors you have on hand that don't require a drivers license... Or change it and you'll need a motorcycle endorsement. double the cost on the bike and carry insurance nationwide. Ya just can't have it both ways. It's a moped with a bigger wheel on the front and some pretty plastic, that's all it is. And I like the style, just don't like getting passed by a fool that want's to save 10 seconds from their trip and running me off the road. Moral of the story? Ya just can't have it both ways :-) A moped is a moped, a moped is not a motorcycle no matter how you try to disguise it as a real bike.
That would be perfect for my 10 year-old son...... " The same clown said that about my $3,000 RC airplane made out of carbon fiber...... That takes at least 5 years of experience just to land it because it's a glider.... its 6 pounds weight
Ehh for what it is it's good better then most of taotaos cheaper stuff like the pony, main issue is the 50cc but that's also the positive because it's ridable without a endorsement, win some lose some
