Ever since I watched the first J'n'J finals at a Lindy Hop competition, I think there's no better way for dance instructors to demonstrate what dancing really is, especially at the end of a weekend dancing class for beginners who wanted to give it a try: being paired up with a partner by drawing lots might result in two strangers having to dance with each other for the first time at a competition without any training or routine being established beforehand!! As an absolute beginner I didn't understand how this could possibly result in a flawless performance - but it turned out to be impressive rather than perfect because they had fun! What I was used to watch on TV in ways of dancing were the World /European championships where all couples not only looked eerily alike (jet black or bleached hair, tons of make-up on orange-brown skin, sporting smiles that were frozen in place), their routines were pretty much, too. Who would take dancing lessons where someone would teach them to dance like that? Not me... "JackandJilling", on the other hand, is the fine art of social dancing where you might end up dancing with a stranger, not only having fun but doing awesome because the follower lets the leader do his part while she reacts smoothly and flexible (boy, this sure is this long-winded - I'm German, I tend to translate stuff in my head😏bear with me, pretty please!) Watching instructors having fun 'improvising' - the way you both do - who wouldn't be eager to start, beginner or experienced? 😉
