Nope and STOP!! She's not marketable nor does she have the range. Talent does not equate to being marketable. Now, Regina Hall, Halle, and Sanna they are worth the effort and discussion
Taraji should start her own production. Then she won't be low-ball. Systemic racism is always in existence on all platforms including Hollywood. That town and across the globe 🌎 will always do black women wrong. And the interviewer asked the question what did that do to her. She already knew what it's about come on what sort of question is that? You know the answer although she is white and embedded in racism. Taraji didn't have to explain that to you.
@@IC3compromisedaccountsI don't think she's giving enough information to get supported. She should mention box office sales and the amount she's getting paid or percentage in comparison to White females actresses. The issue should be that the pay gap is too broad based on box office sales!!!
Or she can quietly retire and write a book about her personal struggles and it should be a two book deal. Those books can be turned into movies and she can start non profit for black actresses and actors who need representation for better deals in Hollywood. Other black women like Oprah can help back it and anyone else who want to help fund it… But I like your idea too
Her talent & skill level makes her more than a mere actress. She is a thespian. An artist at the TOP of her craft. When you review her body of work Taraji P. Henson has portrayed all her characters with prisrine professionalism Yet Hollywood, STILL undervalues her. F'N RIDICULOUS
Yes that’s show biz she’s a working actor and from where I’m sitting she s doing pretty good most actors will tell you there grateful to have a job .. there’s only a handful who get the big bucks … Hollywood is treacherous… and if all u can do is repeat the words that someone else writes and depend on others oh well … I love those people that took charge and went for it all … stop crying and figure it out oh yeah she’s gonna quit yeah 👍 that s a lie phoney
I'm so impressed with Teraji. She doesn't drag people into her pay disputes, and doesn't name 'n shame those who don't fight alongside her. Much respect sis!!!!
Well she never spoke up for Monique when Monique says the exact same thing 8 years ago and all blk actors dragged her and now the world is suppose to feel sorry for TARAJI? NOT!
There's nothing to fight with her about. Everyone knows everyone gets paid a different amount based on what they have achieved in the past that added to the bottom line. Looking at Taraji, Viola, and Moniques resume they don't deserve A list comparable pay because they don't bring in A list amount of revenue. Minimum to be considered A list is consistently leading films that gross at least $100M or better. That's why Eddie, Will, Martin, Denzel, Morgan Freeman, Sam Jackson, The Rock are A list. It has very little to do with them have male genitalia and more to do with them being popular, although it is easier for males to become A list because males are more entertaining on average.
She is deceiving people. That's why she doesn't call out specifics. What if in her mind her worth is that she wants $100M per film? You don't know if what she is being offered is low or not because she has been transparent enough. The only thing we know is that she was paid far more than Brad Pitt, which was justified because he is a A list talent. Benjamin Button was his 20th movie in his resume to make at least $100M at the box office. That same movie was Taraji's first mainstream movie with her in a support role. The only way they are going to pay you half a million or better as support is if you are an A list actor or you are part of an ensemble cast of A list actors like the Oceans movies or MCU films.
Everyone has to fight. That's what she isn't telling you. Everyone has to negotiate because Hollywood is contractual. It's a normal part of the business. The studios job is to pay you the lowest amount possible, not the most. They don't pay A list actors 20 million dollars because they want to they pay them that because they have the track record to demand it and because they are already rich they have more freedom to walk away. If Brad Pitt goes to the Batman production with a budget of $150 million and he sets a $15M fee and they decline he's alright because he has 20 other films at that level sitting on his desk already without auditioning for the roles.
Taraji P. You truly are a treasure. One of the all time greats. You certainly deserve your share of the rewards other people profited off your success. So beautiful and talented. God Bless you ❤
That's not how Hollywood works. She hasn't brought in the big bucks and as a result her pay is going to be stagnant. The doctor at a hospital brings in the big bucks which is why they get paid so much for their expertise. Taraji is still at the receptionist level of Hollywood even though she overvalues herself just like Viola. They don't have the popularity to demand these high fees that are equivalent to A list actors.
@@LindaJones-gq6bbyeah it’s a great point … she’s acting a working actor WORKING ok it’s a small group and she’s in it the delicate genius should start writing her own produce get out there ..stop defending on others … look at sly Stallone his story is incredible talk about broke and he turned it around …
Im so worried about actors and she’s not excited anymore meanwhile she’s doing well very well … I’m not excited about her complaining then don’t sign on the dotted line and figure it out ask sly about being under paid and broke I mean broke .. I just can’t with Hollywood working actors
I was thinking the same thing. Ownership is key so that you don’t have to fret over what others won’t give you. When you’re at the mercy of others, they determine how much of *their* money they’ll spend on your salary. And it’s their prerogative because they’re the ones taking the financial risks when putting a project together. By now Henson and others of her stature should be in the position to produce so she they can cut out the middle men. I realize that for feature films, that comes with monetary risk and delayed compensation via net earnings after a movie’s release. But it’s been common knowledge for quite a while, even to a layperson such as myself, that entertainers can only sustain their careers by getting involved in the business side of showbiz. Several successful black actresses have done just that.
They make the rules and nothing will change that. Make enough noise and you'll never work again. Being an actress is a privilege, not a right. I'm black, so it's just the reality of the world. People need to realize every industry will not be forced into political correctness and equality.
You see the industry shift a bit, especially with representing LGBT on TV and movies. So it is possible. The other point is..someone like Taraji would never be allowed to make one major box office flop. Her career would be over immediately and permanently. Yet Nicholas Cage, Mark Wahlberg etc can make flop after flop and still be paid 10 times more than what she gets just coming off from being nominated for an Oscar and being in two best picture nominees.
Yes, it can change. This is why she's fighting! Why do you think MLK walked the streets in protest for "Civil Rights"! He fought for change along with others, and the fight brought about change. She needs support from black and white actors alike. Billy Jean King, Venus Williams, and others fought for pay equality in tennis and have been successful. The women's tennis draw has as many fans as the men's draw. Taraji, black women, and all women need the support of men and women; black and white. Stand in solidarity with her, actors guild! The writers went on strike, and their demands were met, but they stood together. Unity is a universal rule. When you unify, there is NOTHING you can't accomplish! STAND WITH HER, ACTORS GUILD!
I love actors like Denzel Washington, Morgan Freeman, Octavia Spencer and other amazing acting veterans that have been in the game for decades now that always seem grateful and never complain!!!
We need to start educating our youth while they are in schools about creating and managing their finances and become business owners. Education about this is crucial especially when you do come from money and huge inheritances. IMO.
Exactly, because one of her complaints was that they take alot of her money on taxes. I'm sorry, but should have started various streams of income while her career was *hot*.
I watched an interview with her and Oprah and they spoke of the struggle for equal pay. Oprah had to fight for her to get what she wanted because her fighting alone wasn’t working. I’m glad Oprah did stand up for her. However, I see that people are posting videos and excerpts of a beef between Taraji and Oprah and that is far from the case especially when she was defending Taraji. Let’s stop putting black women against one another for views and gossip. It doesn’t help us sistas one bit.
Taraji is the one who made Oprah seem like the bad guy to play a victim. That's why Oprah seem to be keeping her distance from her. Taraji's problem is hiring a good agent. An actress should not have to be saying this.
They don't get this. There are black entertainers who command top dollar, they are crossover artists. Taraji is very talented but not a crossover artist like Denzel, Samuel Jackson, Beyonce, etc.
I mean she’s an actress so I’m pretty sure she understands how pay works in acting and whether or not she’s a lead role. Are you an actor? No. So not much to say when you don’t have experience in the industry! I mean she’s been acting for years so I’m pretty sure she would understand
@Jay-fz6vb You don't need to be an actor, to know how the industry works; in fact, most people making money off Hollywood are not actors. It's always fun, when a "genius" steps forward.
I am so disappointed in these comments her demographic knows who she is and so do her white colleagues when they copy her style Black woman we are the trendsetters ! She should not have to fight after all her awards Taraji gone be alright black women have the finances to support you in creating generational wealth ❤
because you don't understand capitalism and markets. pay is not based on emotional racial entitlement stuff. the question is how many eyeballs do you bring to the theater? period.
My question is, when is enough, enough? It doesn’t take a billion dollars to live a comfortable life. I could retire on her current net worth and be happy. She’s living the life of OUR dreams and yet because she’s not making what the next person is making there is no gratitude? Everybody can’t be the highest paid.
QUEEN THIS CERTAINLY REMINDS ME OF MONIQUE WHEN SHE HAD TO ADDRESS THE VERY SAME THING AND WHAT A SHAME BECAUSE NOT ONLY DO YOU DESERVE GREAT PAY FOR YOUR GIFT TO THIS WORLD AS ONE OF THE BEST TO EVER DO IT, YOU DESERVE THE RESPECT THAT COMES WITH IT ALSO # I SAID WHAT I SAID
Monique’s beef was with OPRAH … let’s be fair…. And now guess whose name is included as producers of the Color Purple… Winfrey and Perry … who are black… where’s the respect there for black actors…. By your own kind!!! WOW… where’s the outrage by other black actors…. Obviously, other factors are in play here!! Start with them…
During a recent SAG-AFTRA interview, Henson said the film “Proud Mary,” marked the last time she’s received a raise. But she might not want to mention that early 2018 release when making the case for her deserving higher salaries. It underperformed at the box office. It had a budget of $14M and made around $21.75M internationally, which was a little more than 1.5x the budget. A film is usually considered profitable if it earns around 3x, or at the very least 2.5x, the amount it took to make it. That’s because of the money spent promoting the finished product and other post-production costs. I’d suggest that Henson use “What Men Want,” which came out the following year, as an example of her marketability. She was the lead and carried the film, which made FOUR TIMES its budget in box-office receipts. “What Men Want” showed that she can draw a substantial audience to theaters.
Mine is less than 50 k lol , I mean they are actors they should have a good manager or don't accept roles that don't pay what they expect. I mean times are hard for the rest of us but I'm not an actor so idk their salary..
Oh, stop it. You’re older now, the roles are drying up. You prioritized your career over marriage because you thought you were going to be young forever. Now you see what life is like as an older aging actress.
African Americans with college degrees typically are paid less than European Americans without college degrees. Therefore, African Americans in every industry are “jumping hurdles” and getting paid less than our counterparts, unless we work for the government where salaries are based on experience and education. That’s my preference. In Taraji’s case, she’s complaining and not asking for what she wants. She’s an entrepreneur who has to tell those in her industry her price. If she wants a certain amount of money for a movie, then she has to set her rates. Then the industry will know (period). 👩🏽🦱🇺🇸
oh god here we go with the sexist rhetoric.. "im a woman so im not getting paid equal to men" taraji p is a great actress but shes not Denzel Washington or some big name actress that will draw huge crowds with her name alone. She lacks awareness , that shes not as big of an actress as she claims to be.
They want you to be yes women yes women everything yes don't you do it 😮. When you do a movie you put your heart and soul in 😮 I love your movies and I do watch them❤❤❤❤❤ you stay up and stay strong 💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪❤
Taraji is gifted, talented and should be rewarded like every other highly paid actor. She has raw talent so industry stop the disrespect and quit robbing her of what she deserves!!! It’s a crying shame !!! ❤️❤️🙏🏽🙏🏽💕💕
