Sure, it'd be great if he broke the record, but the record he was trying break was his own, and that record, (in spite of being taken off the books in a bureaucratic re-structuring of weight-classes), is still the real record, 28 years later.
+skirts365 Of course you realize that Pisarenko didn't "let" Taranenko's record remain above his own , (possibly for eternity)? I've found mention that both men were short for their division., Pisarenko 6' 3/4", but I can't find Taranenko's height. You have it?
I am from the same country - Georgia. Lasha is only 22, he is yet to reach his potential. He will lift 270 easy! 300, that remains to be seen, but 265, 270 no problem. His trainer said that in practice he snatched 220!

The unbeatable Taranenko...his record has stood the test of time..in spite of the modification in the body weight cathegories...👍👍👍👍
He had the strength. Weightlifting coach obce told me that if a lifter attempts a certain weight it means that he has done it in practice for no lifter would risk injury. It means that Olympic weightlifting records are set in practice halls and we only see fraction of them.
From front view left side, the barbell was not locked in with the collar.. the small move of the discs probably caused this to be a no lift. At the time he racked the bar, the bar started to go to the left. During the dip and drive and jerk the small amount of drift at the beginning caused few cm drift at the end. With these weights to counterbalance the force you would have to have much more strength, even his strength, at that time, was and still is unimaginable to 99.99% of population till this day. It's only my opinion but sometimes i feel like the loaders have no idea. anyway it should be the lifters/coaches responsibility to check the barbell, especially on WR attempt. And especially on attempt that won't be EVER achieved again.
My dad fell last night--he has Alzheimers. I figure he weighs 160. I had a hell of a time getting him up. Gave me a greater appreciation for what these guys do: that's 4 dads overhead😯
@@communityiscringe4087 No, he passed a couple years back. Was 91. Had a good life, but the end wasn't pretty. It was a mercy. Thanks for the kind thoughts
@@Russia-UkraineWar-ns6oo Tarananko is Lasha's daddy, Lasha trains with modern methods , recovery etc and probably uses PEDs and also his Rio olympic medal is disputed , many believe that Salimi should have won that , there you go 👍🏽💪🏽👊🏿
He was good for 270+ no problem. Taranenko just missed 267,5 in Cardiff, after travelling all night by bus from London. Which was probably straight after a flight from Russia.
He doesn't use proper form in the jerk recovery. He's supposed to push off the front leg first. When he immediately straightens the back leg the enormous load overhead can very easily move a tiny bit forward from his body's center of balance and fall. It's nearly 600 pounds!!!!
I think he had it but rushed the " recovery " ( when you bring back the rear leg ) after managing to split jerk it quite easily, and lost his balance ( didn't wait like half a second to a second more to stabilize it in the split jerk position )
i like both... two great men... Taranenko and hes legendary discretion stay a good vodka Afficionados ....but less expensive in victory than German lifter !!!i remember Manfred to drunked for take a fly plane...and forced to take fly of tomorrow for avoid problem...looool but is a part of Heroe not a default... Nerlinger Beer or Taranenko Vodka AFTER COMPETITION isNOT dopping... these two lifter HAD NEVER USE STEROIDS OR ALL OTHER FORBIDDEN DRUGS ....its the secret of great Longevity for the Both !!! Manfred and Leonid are legends
PF Real Estate Group ...oki...but for me i need D.L for increase my grip perf and my back strenght ..(i talk about all variation about D.L..like hack squat...with differents grip...and strapless..)... but squat(front squat in first) is essentialy for stand up with bar !.. its an complew combination of several exercises.(i had good perf if you forget my bodyweight. Loool im slow in my movment...if i was more speed an no S H.W class its possible D.L vatiations had no essentially for my cleans !!!
Supposedly cleaned and jerked 270 in training too. And supposedly cleaned 280 in training, and did two jerks with 260... Monster, especially considering he was around 125kg
@@LuKa-es7no This is not a record. And this is not a competition. For trousers, this is called an outfit. Many trousers have more personal records than their official ones. To fix the record, you need an accurately weighted weight of the barbell. We need a test for substances and so on. I myself had a better result in training than in competitions. And half of the athletes. This is not a fixed result. Alas.
The superheavyweights need to carry a lot of bulk especially in the waist and hips that provide strength as well as balance with a low center of gravity. Olympic lifting is all hips and legs as the weights in snatch and clean and jerk are not held overhead by muscle but by the bone structure.
Taranenko and Piserenko should have been the 2 people that had a chance to do 600 lbs but it never happened at least in competition. Now all these old records have been thrown out so they young lifters never see what others did in the past.
is this a general question or regarding this video, because these are weightlifters, not powerlifters. Like Lexington said, there are quite a few powerlifters with good physiques and remain relatively lean.
not sure if I would call the first lift having a "perfect clean" - the bar did crash on him a little - but still a totally phenomenal lift by any account.
Having machines to train with is not a sign of a great training. You must train all your body with functional moves. That was Rocky was doing, he didn't need all that technology to improve his power. That doesn't mean technology is bad, but that you need both the science and the traditional stuff.
We all know that Russians are the strongest weightlifters in the world, don't u remember Rocky IV when Drago was doing cleans and punching that machine w record breaking power. The Russians in real life, like in the movie, have the most technologically advanced equipment and coaching staffs, while we in America lift wheelbarrows filled with people, carry logs in the snow, and run on top of a mountain and scream Drago.
Wow , , , over 40 stones , , , over 42 stones , , , Those British are completely out of their minds , , , who measures in stones ? ? , , , totally nuts !!!!!
Is there a way to "translate" the power of different athletic achievements into comparable numbers? I'm referring to acts such as Aroldis Chapman's 106 MPH fastball. More complex would be taking the mechanical advantage of sports apparatus out of the equation, such as with Jose Canseco's 540' home run.
not really, stronger men would generally manage to shoot a heavier ball still fast, but not necessarily a normal ball faster. at some point its more about speed than strength in ballsports, which requires completely different aspects
How much is Taranenko's last attempt??? This video USED to say it was 267.5. In that case the weights on the outside would be a 5 and a 1.25. (The bigger weight looks more like a 2.5 than a 5 though). If it's 257.5, it would NOT be a wr attempt b/c the wr was 265.5 or 266 at that point; and the small weights on the outside would just be a 1.25 on each side. HELP!!!!
Andre Ledo It says 257.5.....Learn to read lol. The small plates are not color coded, nor visibly labeled lol. At/above 265 they would normally replace the yellow 15 kg plate w/ a blue 20 kg lol. Learn the normal plate loading procedures lol.
Andre Ledo Those diameters are not standard lol. Some 2.5 plates are the diameter of 5 kg plates lol. The diameter of the plates is not given in the video lol.
Your're right but bone is what is supporting the lockout more so than muscle.Look at the differences in body builds since the press was gone the large muscles are gone from upper body replaced by large thighs and hips.I'm surprised after seeing Chinese lifters do presses how weak they are that's why the old Oxbow competition from Britain was so interesting.
