You might not realize this but "Every Frame a Painting" has actually always been 2 people, not just Tony. It's written & edited by both Tony Zhou & Taylor Ramos, but always narrated by Tony. I hope I don't come off rude, but I keep seeing these comments that shows most people think Tony makes all the videos alone, so whenever I see one I try to inform them. Even longtime fans make the mistake, which is understandable since Tony does the talking. Check out both of their episodes on the Netflix show "Voir." Both Tony & Taylor have their own episodes and they are essentially an Every Frame a Painting episode, but Taylor actually narrates hers. She's really good, and I hope she narrates for the main channel at some point, but right now I'm just glad they are back on youtube.

Good timing too. Was just thinking there was a lack of film video essays on my feed ever since cinema cartography went mask off fascist.

There are plenty of compelling, Artful and interesting video essays on this platform, you just have to find them. Honestly kind of sounds like a skill issue.

​@@dangerxbadger2300 Why don't you start with recommending some good channels or videos? :) I'd recommend Beyond Ghibli for essays about animation.

​@@dangerxbadger2300 At best I'd argue there's definitely been shift. Not that the more thoughtful video essays are extinct but that there is a glut of Wikipedia-regurgitation type essays. The higher quality video-essays have become more niche when they used to be highly trending on YT during the 2013~2017 period.

@@MrOzzification you know, that's fair, and I apologize if I came off as snarky. The majority is pretty blase'. I guess I'm spoiled bc I've carefully crafted my algorithm with the likes of Wendigoon, Jeffiot and Nicholas Nameolas(all of whom you should check out if you haven't, bc they're great).

Do you know why it was taken down? That's really unfortunate. I loved that video (as well as the rest of them) and the color theme was such a cool touch. I've always thought KaptainKristian & Every Frame a Painting were the video essay GOATS. And then I go to YMS, RedLetterMedia, and NakeyJakey when I want a bit of comedy with my educational video essays. I'm so glad Every Frame a Painting & NakeyJakey returned from their long hiatus as well. Along with KaptainKristian it seems like the year of returning to form.

I really feel like when he starts to have a movie idea, he literally forms the roles around certain actors that he has in mind to play them. I think that could potentially play a huge part in why his process works so well. I could be totally wrong, but I know that for me, when I'm imagining a story or something, I always have a specific individual in mind when forming characters.

Also, pretty cool that Tarantino's "hang out" movies, are a sort of live action slice-of-life. Which is also why I wanted him to make a Star Trek so bad.

Maybe I can help. I think Jackie is literally looking down her nose at her, and getting a full picture of who this woman is sitting across from her, and how she is being treated, and treats her accordingly.
