Did you check that you do not have a magnet missing on the big enclosure..? I have about 100 of these and when I shake upside down the lids don’t fall off at all... However I did receive one with a missing magnet and that did just fall off if shook upside down, but quickly got a replacement free and fast...
@@simonhollom591 as I said in the video, there were 3 large magnets on the enclosure, and when I twist it around I could feel them lock into place. When I held it upside down it didn't fall, but with the a little pressure the lid popped off. But that was only on the largest enclosure, all the small ones stayed attached with no issues.
@@tarantulacollective yes but inside the actual lid that detaches was one missing... you can feel them if you run your finger around the lid... they feel like bumps and mine was missing one... you could not actually see it as the ones in the lid are hidden between a sandwich of two plastic lids bonded together... I have literally shook my even larger enclosure it’s a 30cm wide to death upside down... It doesn’t fall off... I can even pick it up by the lid only, whilst it is fully setup with substrate and decor etc... There is definitely something a miss with your enclosures...
I'm glad Tarantula Room is branching out to the US. He's big in the UK community and he's such a lovely guy who's always out to help people whenever they need it and always helping our markets out with these enclosures, as we're quite deprived on tarantula-esque enclosures. Great video.
@@amandaz9762 yes truely a man dedicated to craft and has mastered entertaining, yet well edited videos that are still educational. A one of s kind compared to other tarantula youtubers.
Richard there's a sweet spot on the lid were the magnets meet up, I don't think you could have found it, just spin the lid while its on and you should feel it grip, we've got a few of them here in England they are very good but pricey for what they are.
Something cylindrical would be amazing if you have small collection or have a T you wanna use as a centre piece on your coffee table or something. 360 degree views. Sweet.
I’m from the Uk and they got new designs I think made from acrylic which I melt cross ventilation they also have more magnets 😂😂 I keep my scorpion in cylinder one and adult obt in a big square one 😂😂 I’m so happy they been shipped to US I hope people in the hobby enjoy them as much as I do
Hi Richard just got to see your video, great review by the way. I work in a plastics factory, we supply sign makers with all types of plastic products including acrylic. That material looks like a material called PETG it's similar to poly carbonate, but i couldn't be 100 percent sure unless i had my hands on it. I just thought id throw that your way.
Just discovered you through Wickens, and have been binge watching. Yours are absolutely the best T vids around. The amount of information, and the production value is beyond all others. Thank you!
The Dark Den is chewing gum on the bottom of your shoe compared to this channel....... much better information from this channel.... much better editing..... i don’t feel like he is talking to me like I’m 12 the dark den definitely speaks like he is trying to explain everything to a kid.......I can easily go on but it’s just genuinely much better content on this channel........
These enclosures are excellent for arboreals and slings/juveniles. But I’d definitely like to see some for adult terrestrials that are at least 20 inches across or more, your typical 10 gallon tank size.
I believe that he's recently been testing out spacers to put between them when stacking.... They're much stronger than the look too. I think he stacked like 12 high, all full of substrate too....
Hey Rich! I have one which I've use for my P metallica communal and it did a great job. Keeps the humidity good and tbh no side ventilation is needed. I love the lip on the top. U can see it stopped the second maculata form bolting out. Ideal for any bolting species as they just go under the lip and hide there. Even bigger spiders have a problem with bolting out. And yeah... the plastic mesh is the best. Had some Ts stuck on the exo terra enclosure so plastic mesh is awesome!
Great video Richard. I looked at these enclosures before and although they look nice as displays I'm a bit put off by the flimsy plastic. Not as good as Perspex or glass and quite expensive considering the material their made from.
It seems like visibility is really nice on these, the small seam isn't a huge deal. I like magnetic stuff, I'm not sure what drawbacks are as long as the magnet is strong enough (tho I guess magnets add to the price.) For instance I love using magnetic ledges. I would totally try out one of the smaller ones.
I was literally just saying that I need to rehouse my H. devamatha while eyeballing the cylindrical enclosure my betta inhabits and wishing I could find one like it for T's. How coincidental 😊
I like these, have four myself. Met him at my first invert show and thought he was a great chap too. Regarding the seam, i like adding backgrounds of some sort to my enclosures. So with these for example, i sometimes create a very basic moss or coir background running up and around the seam, using Gorilla Glue. My Huntsmen species, especially my H. boei settle and camouflage on the back wall.
I've got two mid sized cylinders but being from the UK they are quite commonly available. I currently have a male regalis is one and did have a metallica in the second but I moved the metallica into an exo terra. One thing I don't like is only having one access point for cleaning and maintenance. With exo terra, at least I have two options depending on where the T is located. They also have options with built in leds.
I've seen these enclosures in my local reptile shop im from the UK we have had them within the last 6 months, do you think these would be good for a adult fossorial?
I have full racks of the tarantula room enclosures... Got them from the spider shop in U.K... Cheep too for enclosures and look the bomb 💣... The big ones have 3 magnets they are very strong, I also had a very tall custom made for my very large Omothymus violaceopes Singapore Blue Female she’s very large and strong (stronger and far bigger than my poecilotheria metallica that are in the same type of enclosure and they have yet to escape... However one enclosure I purchased did come with a magnet missing you could see it was missing and they sent a replacement without any issues... I have so many T’s in these types of enclosure and your T will not escape them... The magnets are strong 💪 enough for any T’s you put in, unless you have a magnet missing...
Hello my friend Do you have a video or know of one that shows how to change those pesky screens on top of the eco enclosure that shows how to and good replacement options I’m new to the hobby so looking for best options to creat the worlds to these amazing creatures
Thank god I get my enclosures built for me. Let's take the "Tarantula Room Square Large Enclosure" from them. 8.5"x8.5"x8.5" for $45.00. For that money I get a 35cm*35cm*35cm enclosure out of glas with a background, my specific ventilation and my own double lit design. Those plastic enclosures are unnessasary and look so cheap. And a black lit? So I guess no lifeplants.
Great review video. Between big fail on aesthetics and all the other issues... hard pass. Great design on HerpCult enclosures.. but.. at least on the once I received.. some quality control issues.
I guess I never realized you could rehouse a smaller scorpion simply by picking them up with tongs by their tail… gently of course. But I saw that and I had to do a double take!
Great review, I know some people who added side ventilation, because as you said, it's obviously not enough. But that aside, I find them gorgeous, especially for arboreal species as it offers a beautiful 360 view and it kinda changes the way we set things inside. On a side note, I personally had a bad experience dealing with the company. I wanted to purchase their enclosure and asked them if they shipped outside of UK (I'm in Europe), and they didn't even bother answering me despite them seeing my message. I was ready to pay a bit more for shipping fee... Disappointing. Does anyone know where I can get some cylindrical enclosures in Europe? Or if someone can ship one to me? I'd be eternally grateful! Please, help a brother out! XD (Obviously, I'll pay)
I love enclosures like this, but I would rather just got glass, the plastic/plexi/acrylic gets scratched too easily for my preference. And before long I feel the need to replace them. Which it's a fault of the enclosure, it does the job its supposed to either way, but little scratches just bother me more. Other than that I really appreciate these type of enclosures. I wouldn't be opposed to using them over the Amac containers or the mainstay plastic containers. They definitely look a lot nicer and more professional.
@Adrian B hardscaping and just extended rehousing. but I just am not a fan of any enclosure that can easily be scratched or is prone to wear the way plastics and acrylics are. But I should clarify I'm very OCD, so a single scuff or scratch will bother me, I just happen to notice them less with glass.
We have some of these enclosures and we are keeping Poecilotherias in them. There is a lip on the inside of these enclosures that keeps the T from running out when you pop the lid. These are nice display enclosures.
I am happy to tell you I put the lids to the test with a BIG centipede. I did put the enclosure inside another incase of escape. 2 months later its not managed to get out 😊
Plastic dog biscuit jar from walmart or the large plastic jar for cheese balls from costco... Large cylindrical plastic containers one & two gallon sizes
I have a few of the earlier design (pre magnets) work really well, lightweight, good visual display, just don't use them for jumping spiders....they get up under the top ridge and are a bugger to get out once there lol. Love the vids.
Wish there was cross ventilation like tarantula cribs has 😕 maybe cross ventilation isn’t as functional as we think idk too much about it but I do prefer that it’s there.
As you say though with the bigger enclosure popping off like that you could use more magnets of even may put some heavy rocks or paperweights on top? Just not covering the air hole unless you make more holes in the sides. It would be a lot nicer and more appealing if they were made of acrylic
H. mac #2 almost made a run for it. Good thing it decided to stay in. The large cylindrical enclosures really need to be more sturdy. A great example as to why you always pick up any enclosures by the base, never by the sides, because it's easy to lose your grip and drop it on accident. Stay safe and thanks for sharing :)
i have the 22cm/ 8.6in cube tarantula room enclosure, had it for about 3 months my almost fully grown gbb calls it home, added cross vents with a hot nail but unlike yours the magnets on my are really strong to the point its hard to get the lid off and it pulls it out of my had putting it back on
I have few of the medium one stacked up. And yeah, I did drill holes to the side. Works well. I like that they are light weight, because my shelves are full😂
Hi Richard. Rest review. I bought the smallest cylinder last week to house my jumping spider. I really like it. Good quality and the lid works well. I did have to put in cross ventilation though, which really was no bother.
Can you do a top 10 on species for impatient keepers (fast growers, colorful slings, slings that don't spend months underground, slings that will actively come out of their burrows to eat, etc). I'm not even sure many of those species exist but if they do I'd definitely like to know about them. I've only been in the hobby for a little under a month, and I still have a small collection (4 Ts, 3 of which are slings) so I'm sure you can imagine how anxious I am to see some action lol. Right now I just feel like I have a bunch of boxes full of dirt that occasionally make crickets and meal worms disappear.
I would never buy these....they are so flimsy! I really did like the look of them, but when I saw them at the Warwickshire uk show a few years back...I was totally put off with the weak feel of the enclosures. A lot of people in the UK think they are amazing, but in my opinion they are not great. If the plastic sheet walls was more rigid and solid I would definitely recommend....but unfortunately, they are not.
Maybe adding some neodyme magnets to the top? That should help - they are a lot stronger, than common ferrite ones, but still relatively cheap. 10x1 mm neodyme is enough to lift one pound, so adding 3 to the top should be enough to keep anything inside. And they are like 5 or 6 for 1 dollar. Oh, and you can acctually get ones, that have glue on one side, so they are easy to install.
Always enjoyed seeing those enclosures and water some but at the same time almost every rehouse I’ve seen countless struggling with the lip of the enclosure and getting the T to get into the catch cup. Still pretty cool enclosures. Thanks for sharing 💙
Hi Richard hope your well. As you know I’m In the UK and I have a few of these enclosures and I agree regarding the magnetic strength on the larger one’s for adults. I do like the enclosures and I use one for my C.versi and I added cross ventilation with a iron with no issues.
@@Cliffhanger_MFC I have but since i also love in the UK and funds aren't steady, those would be ideal enclosures for temporary use until finances become steadier 🤞
