Next time I make this I'm trying this recipe, looks really good, might do a touch less chilli for me. When we're out of lock down we're making a special trip to The Chilli PIckle. Thank you for sharing :)
Very simple. Excellent. Best tarka dal / dal fry I have come across and made, and I have made a lot. My usual version (a mix of toovar and chana, with cumin - not much!, ginger, a tiny piece of cinnamon, a trace of fennel, some asafetida, a half onion - not too much or it's too sweet, and some tomato) is now my second choice. Asafoetida does not impart any taste. I think the British gave this spice its English name which means "foetid arse" ie, smelly arse as this spice makes you fart. I love coriander but India it is seasonal as with all other fruits and vegetables and these things are not imported as in England where we have them 365 days of the year.
