I own two Chaos Space Marine armies, one is Khorne themed, the other is Nurgle themed. The World Eaters (Khorne Space Marines basically) are the epitome of descending into rage and bloodlust, so going with them when it came to collecting them for the tabletop was an easy choice. Plus the models are awesome! For Death Guard, I just enjoy their models, I've just put them on hold for now.
The funny thing is, it does nothing essentially new, but they combine so many different things so incredibly well. The fantasy, sci-fi, horror..etc. Its done with so much love and detail and there is basically 30Years worth of lore to explore.
For books, the Gaunt’s Ghosts series is a really good starting point, from the point of view of human Guard soldiers (can get The Founding omnibus or just the first book, which is First and Only). There’s also Eisenhorn, which is about an inquisitor and is more of a spy story (there’s an omnibus or Xenos is the first book). Or if you want to see how the Chaos side does things, the Night Lords omnibus is excellent
There’s a lot of speculation on that actually. Since the emperor is a perpetual (immortal) it’s believed that if he died it might actually be the best outcome as he would be reincarnated and could possibly be stronger and that him being stuck on the throne is actually worse…but at the same time, like Bricky stated, he’s also creating a beacon for humanity to travel and without it they can’t…and simultaneously holding back the demons from invading Terra (Earth) since Magnus blew up the web way and now demon’s can pour through.
Nurgle has the best minis - the he Death Guard are super cool, fun and easy to paint, and the daemons are really great too. And you can do lots of kit-bashing/converting and get really creative
If I had to choose between the three, I would choose nurgle. There is no fear with nurgle so you always know you made the right choice. There is no deception with nurgle so you always are following a task that is righteous that you believe is righteous. Nurgle gives you the benefit of his gifts and you are happy to receive them and you are happy to give those gifts to everyone around you knowing that they too will be happy. Nurgle breeds happiness. Nurgle is my favorite because he reminds me of myself. Also, Nurgle and Tzeentch are the two more philosophical representations of Chaos. Khorne is a very restricted, you could say 'shallow' personification of a very specific human/sentient behavior - rage and murder, Slaanesh is more broadly Hedonism but that's also limited to human/sentient being behavior and somewhat materialistic. Tzeentch is the universal force of time/movement ( Change ) while Nurgle is Entropy. Arguably in our universe Nurgle would outlast all the other Gods ( Since the entire universe is destined to succumb to Entropy ) and he is also the most 'chill' of all the Chaos Gods - Khorne wants you to participate in bloodsports without respite, Tzeentch will endlessly manipulate you, Slaanesh will eventually torture you when you've reached your limit of doing so to others, Nurgle kind of gives all of his worshippers a straightforward path to become more imprevious to suffering and prepare themselves for the inevitable end that awaits 99% of all beings in the galaxy. He's basically the closest you can get to a Chaos version of Buddha.
Well Horus was also being empowered by all four chaos gods during his fight with the Emperor, also think he had a weapon that had the ability to kill immortals.
i was told the indian shooting the star meant you get a free candy. also i started listening to the Horus Heresy series, and i recommend them for new 40k fans. it doesnt bombard you with lore or millions of characters at once like it could do. you basically get everything from a few characters' perspective, and then in another book it tells you about the same events from another character's or faction's perspective.
People like nurgle for the kit bashing. You want to really show off your painting. See, with nurgle, glueing extra arms and heads to a unit makes sense.
