You articulated my thoughts on the Transient Light perfectly - I've been back and forth on whether I want to add it to my collection, but I don't think removing gender from the tarot is the answer (for me). I prefer the genderless blob approach of the Lilifer I think. Removing gender without removing people. LOVE your little Gay Marseille pouch. What you had to say about the Fyodor Pavlov/what does queer look like got me thinking about how I think there is only so far a tarot deck can go in representing queerness because it's so much more than what's visible. Which just means there's never going to be a perfect queer deck, which is okay, and that's true of lots of kinds of representation and is why we need lots of it! Lots of food for thought. I think you’re absolutely right, and I think that’s where my brain fell apart a bit, because I think my experience of being queer is more mental/emotional/spiritual/political than anything it’s possible to illustrate and so I started losing confidence about what I was even talking about! I feel the same way, about not having as many queer decks as I would like! For me I think what makes a deck queer is probably a combination of the creator and the deck itself. Like, I think it would be possible for a queer creator to make a non-queer deck, so there's got to be something in the content, too. A queer creator does not (necessarily) a queer deck make. Your statement that "there's just something gay about it" (re the Lilifer) is probably the best summation of the topic that I've heard 😊 It was really fun seeing this part of your collection and I loved the history bit at the end 🌈

Love this vid! To me, the Fyador Pavlov IS a queer deck. I personally think the inclusion of naked trans bodies in a deck is in itself a queering of the traditional tarot. And it is done so tastefully and gorgeously! The couple in the Lovers and Devil Card is also likely a T4T relationship which is another thing rarely explicitly shown in tarot 🥹 You can also see a distinctly trans story in the 6 of cups in which the creator depicted himself nurturing himself as a child. Absolutely stunning deck in my opinion :) !!!
I love the T4T Lovers card and it’s basically the whole reason I hunted down a copy of the deck (I think I cut the bit out of the video where I said that), it’s so beautiful and would happily have it on my wall as art (same for the devil card, and any of the creator’s work in fairness), i think you’re absolutely right and it is a queer deck, i just suddenly lost confidence as I was filming about what a queer deck even looks like for me. I remember reading that about the six of cups now you mention it! It’s a beautiful card and a beautiful deck! Thank you for being here!
