As you explained it, this kind of thing pisses the hell out of me, not so much in the subtle changes (that's okay), but the change in content, by (yes I counted them) 15 CARDS! It'd been different if she'd waited a year and done that, but it reminds me of my frustration over The Lonely Dreamer deck which released an initial limited edition, and only two months later released a second edition with different content, forcing one to lay out cash for an indie deck again (which I refused), devaluing the thought behind the first edition. If you had an inkling that you were going to change content, or weren't satisfied with the first run, why not wait longer until you were satisfied, or let investors know you were considering some changes up front so they had the option of waiting. It just feels like a way to squeeze cash out of followers. It reminds me of record albums that rehash the same material in a repackaging only adding one or two different ("bonus") tracks. I'm glad not too many creators adopt this practice. I think it sets a bad precedent. It's hard enough to save up money for an indie deck when a rerelease only shortly thereafter invalidates it making one feel hoodwinked or left out from not buying the 'improved' version. There! I've had my rant.
@@toadstooltarot I mean I was perfectly pleased with the first one, and nobody is forcing anyone to back a second edition. So I don’t really get the rant here? It’s just a creator that was legitimately surprised by the success of her first print run and sold out immediately, and thought, hey, I need to print this again, is there anything I could maybe slightly improve? I feel like that is a perfectly natural reaction, and also; something that has happened millions of times in publishing history.
Firstly, can I just say that nobody is obliged to back or buy anything. Ok, so the creator reached out to myself and Levi as we took such lovely photos of the first edition. So she kindly offered us a copy. Secondly, why not improve an already existing deck? I don't think she realised how popular the first version would be. So if there was any room for improvement, it's been done. Would I have brought the second edition? Yes, possibly I would. I don't see how reprinting a deck within a short time period is a problem.
I don't object to the deck. It looks nice. It's just the marketing ploy that bugs me. Maybe she should offer a significant discount to those who had faith in her by already investing in the first go around, thinking they were getting something truly special, which now by releasing a modified version (by 15 cards) so soon after, may feel invalid i.e. "buy the NEW and IMPROVED version because I've decided it's better than the first". And you're right nobody forced anybody to buy either version, but kickstarters imply FOMO by their limitation of print run and availability. I realize that artists have evolutions in their creative thinking, but that is different than product marketing which is my main objection here. (and by the way, this isn't even her art. These are curated images). I'm sure some folks will feel cheated. Why not wait a bit longer and release a new deck of entirely different images? She already found 15 in such a short time. Another year might have provided her with the other 65. I've already got the Tarot of Delphi, so I've got no skin in this game. @@Masculineintuitionreadings
Nice to see them both together. I haven’t backed the first edition cause there were so little images visible in the kickstarter campaign, so that made it hard for me to decide.
Ty! Nice side by side. I remained on the fence with the first edition. Therefore, happy when the opportunity presented itself again. Images enlarged and smaller border took me off the fence. It really is a beautiful deck. In fact, out of “many” decks its found itself in my group of faves. I gotta say, I’m in agreement with all opinions on the changes - especially, the backs and the queen of cups 😞 personally, I also preferred the original 4 of swords. But hey, these are minor complaints overall. Like I said, it’s a beautiful deck. And if the creator ever decides on a borderless 3rd edition?! I’m there!! (Even if it is sooner than later 😉)
