A week prior, the forecast showed a calm night with 1 hour of drizzle, however it got worse every day that I looked, so changed that structure of the tarp and added more guy lines at home to be able to cope with added wind and rain. Making pancakes definitely cheered me up. Wind ended up moving more than was forecast, so by 0200 it was blowing the rain parallel, so through the entrance of the tarp, but had the Alpkit Elan Bivvy as well. Did struggle a bit to pitch due to uneven ground and wind direction, hence why it is more exposed than I would like.

Thanks for this, you've given me more confidence to go out and camp in my tent, as the prospect of that in bad weather was scaring me but now I feel more at ease, if you can camp out in a tarp with a bivi :D and enjoy chocolate pancakes! haha awesome!

Good evening, that is lovely to hear, glad that is the case. As long you're prepared with the right kit you'll be fine, if in doubt it doesn't hurt to go with someone, or close to a way out e.g. car or home. I think I may need to do the pancakes again, defienitely worth it. Hope you have soem good camps/walks. Rowan.

Proper setup there bud, that was impressive how storm worthy you made that tarp with the simple addition of the 2 extra guylines on each pole. Stealing that idea for sure! I tarp camp in snowy conditions and typically use trees and a ridgeline versus poles, and since I have the ridgeline going under my tarp (tarp rests on the ridgeline as support, prussiks attach tarp to ridgeline) I have veen wanting to try adding guylines going from the ridgeline in an A frame shape under the tarp. Kind of like roof rafters.
@RowanWildCamps
@RowanWildCamps 2 месяца назад
Good evening, thank you for that, it's nice to hear you found it useful-it really made a difference. Hope it work well for you. I have still not got round to useing the tarp in snow (sounds fun though). I would imagine to help with snow loading those extra guylines from the ridgeline would have to be really taut/quite steep, but then you may not need them if it is steep? The idea would work well with wind I reckon, stops it being pushed it quite so far. Like I said I do not have any experience with tarps and snow, but can't hurt to try. Seems like a solid idea. Wish you luck. Rowan.

Good afternoon, that's nice to hear, thanks. I may do one day (speak/throw a bit more of personal side to it), however for now I am just making the videos for the "experience" when I watch it back, it is how it felt when I was there. Good afternoon, it is nice to hear you liked it. One day I may introduce more audio (talking etc), however for now I am keeping them as simple as possible to keep it natural when I watch the back. That being said it is a possibility that I may start doing (would need to get a microphone sorted). I do really appriciate the feedback, it definetely helps. So thank you for that. I will be starting work on the next video tommorow, just got back from filming it. Thanks again. Rowan.

During mytime in the army, while on exercise I was never able to sleep inside of our FV432, to much engine noise/radio chatter. I always slept outside under my poncho, no matter what the weather. On one exercise in Denmark it got down to -30°c, but inside my army maggot it was cosy.

@RowanWildCamps Yeah probably was ahah, it was my first time in Dartmoor so had to do the classics High Willhays, Yes Tor and the surrounding areas towards Black-a-Tor Copse, but havent gotten too far due to the weather, however if you havent been to any of those then Id recommend, but maybe not in bad weather as I camped up at about 680m and omg the wind was absolutely pounding my tent, which knock on wood withstood everything Dartmoor threw at me. Loved the vid btw, going to Dartmoor in such weather, and with a tarp, it takes massive balls, hats off sir, and keep posting more vids this was fun to watch :)

@@melonadegg I know where you mean, you really weren't far away then. Shame about the weather for you, the view on a good day is amazing. I will try too, looking at trying to get to Snowdonia next month. Cheers, Rowan.

Lucky you had your bivvy with you, looks like your tarp turned into a wind tunnel during the night! You rigged it up well though to stand up to the wind, not much more you can do without a ridge line, especially in the middle of the night. Thanks for the video Rowan.

Whats the stove adapter that goes from gas can to burner, i like that idea its low on ground
@RowanWildCamps
@RowanWildCamps 2 месяца назад
Hi there, it is the MSR LowDown Remote Stove Adapter. It makes cooking much safer, can keep the stove out the tent but control the gas in the tent, it is far more stable being lower to the ground (makes a wind shield more effective too) and is easier to change the gas. Quite pricey for what it is, but it works well. Would make a good gift to someone or to treat yourself. Hope this helps. Rowan.

@RowanWildCamps
@RowanWildCamps 2 месяца назад
Bit of both, I would say 95% of the kit I have I use year round, generally the only thing that changes come the summer is a lighter sleeping bag, shorts and leaving my down jacket behind or a change in shelter. Unless I do a superlight loadout, then there is drastically less. But I enjoy my creature comforts. If there is anything you want too see, let me know. Rowan.

Hi, I can exactly see where you are coming from. That particular Wayfarer was given to me ages ago by a friend who doesn't like them. I will however continue to get some from of ready to eat meal like Wayfarer or Real Turmat for times when I am disorganised with food prep I know I can just grab something and go. Also, I had a lot left over from a long trip I planned ut unfortunatley could not go on. I will also use dehydrated meals for bad weather camps/walks or long distance that I plan to do quickly, e.g if I were walking for longer than 15hrs they are just convenient and easy. If I can I do try to take whole foods/homemade food, but other times I won't. Hope this sort of helps. Rowan.
