Raise your hand if you think tarping is outdated and stupid and shippers should be weather protecting their own cargo with shrink wrap like boats or air conditioners get wrapped
Whats sad is that by now in 2020 this back breaking work should be a thing of the past flatbedding is severely behind in technology or advancement. Because tarping is not 100% affective against weather elements. Companies would save thousands wrapping there own shit.
Safety glasses should be worn when using bungee cords. Those hooks will take an eye out when the cord snaps. They can also take a tooth. I had a face shield on my safety helmet. Hot and not comfortable but l like to chew my food.
20 years ago we hauled tarped lumber out of Dryden, ear falls, blue lake , Winnipeg , delivered all over the Us. We hauled tarped white pine, tarped mahogany from port of Baltimore to Marvin windows in Warroad mn .
Well, I can almost "GUARANTEE" that 90% of the time you WON'T have a NICE, DRY, WIND FREE, TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED warehouse to TARP in for sure!! Great video but, DEFINITELY not very REALISTIC. Just saying now and keep it 💯. 🤨😏👌🏾👍🏾
However, he was very detailed and thorough. There are not many videos out there that will actually go step-by-step as this. Although the temperature/weather is not realistic, if the concept is then this is the best video out regarding tarping lumber...hands down!
my husband took a picture once when he worked at TMC where he had to tarp banded, composite outdoor decking, that had been shrink wrapped. Made zero sense. and the $40 TMC paid tarp hardly made up for it. or a 2 drop load to 2 different Home Depot locations where the rear section unloaded first....but one final piece was loaded by HD distribution at the very front....so off comes the entire tarp job for that one piece. then re-tarp. Tarping is a primary reason he left flat bedding. TMC = "Tarp My Cargo". Otherwise really enjoyed working for TMC; just to much time messing around with tarps; and on trailer swaps at Lowe's DC...you'd have to leave tarps with the trailer and pick up a preloaded trailer and without fail, pre-loaded trailer had terrible tarps; missing D rings, holes etc. SO that next steel load pickup was a night mare keeping dry.
Reason why I told my dispatcher not to book me tarp loads...besides mofos don't pay tarping crazy right...tarps are terrible..at that 8ft drops....all the loads were not even close to 4 ft...made it hard to be folding all that excess tarp....done with it unlees they pay and get better tarps..

@@codysimonson6260 it’s been great , better than the previous company I was leased on to. My monthly payment to them is 1200 a month that includes insurance too
Unfortunately I will have to do this working for Western Express. Not looking forward to all this for $25. I might consider team driving just because of this aspect.
I assume you’ve figured it out, but in case you haven’t: Throw straps over your load and don’t tighten them down all the way. You want about 10 inches of play in the strap. (you can use for securement or just so you can get the tarps on in the wind). Roll your tarp out underneath the straps. Get down and tighten the winches so you have 5-6 inches of play. Back on top of the load, let your tarp sides down. Climb down and bungee as normal. The wind may flap the tarp, but it can’t blow it off because the straps aren’t letting it create enough lift. Remove straps or (since the wind is obviously problematic) tighten them for extra securement. Wyoming 60mph wind approved.
@@M21assult OMG Thank you!!!! I would have never thought of that technique in a million years. That totally makes sense though!!!!! This advice is solid gold.
Ok how about this you can't tarp on property so go into the dark where it's snowing or rainy and them tarp are slippery God forbid a gust of wind comes ok so then you managed not to fall off the trailer even when your 10 ft above the trailer ok cool so exactly 13'6 the easy part is coming also with no wind yeah it should look that good great job man. Just how about some real world conditions with ppe and without in elements yah know real world these inside loads are far and few inbetween
Been there bro. I have tarped on ice where I had to tie the ladder to the trailer to climb the load because the legs were slipping on the ground. They do not pay enough for those days!
I am a flatbedder and i have done all that. This is a training video that we created to show the basics. We go over all these things in class as well. I am also the instructor at prime and the one that tarped this load. Cant always show all types of tarping techniques for every situation.
That's why went Reefer...that way I dont have to worry about tapping a load. Just put load locks in the trailer..and close the doors and put seal on it.....That Frickin simple.😜😁
Yea you just gotta deal with 2am deliveries at a huge warehouse that doesn’t want you to be there that takes 4 hours because they don’t care about you or your time
@@theoregontruckerT880 They increased the wait time with reefer too. Flatbed is a win. I'd rather tarp for 30 mins to an hour than wait 12 hours for a dock door and unloading
It seems to each their own, I went from Cars, to dryvan and now flatbed. Let's see what she got but one of the reasons is the warehouse holding you. I Hate that.
It is hard sure enough. Good clothing and the correct gloves help. Finding a windbreak helps enormously. Several times I team tarped with other trucks on site in order to do that, even trucks from other companies. We used to be a mutual aid society.
You are tarping in a nice climate controlled environment and your tarp looks very clean I'm willing to venture out and say you're not your tarp is going to be filthy ass dirty and your bungees may even become tangled. My last question is how do you get the tarp on top of that load did you do it yourself or was it put up there by a machine. Nice video though
Why not spend the extra 1/2 a second and hook the straps properly instead of to the rub rail? Not only does this leave the straps unprotected but it also reduces the working load limit of the strap, which is 5,400 lbs because it’s now hooked to a 2,000 lbs WLL light-duty aluminum rub rail.
The rubrail has a working load limit of 6600 pounds. You can find this information under the rubrail of the trailer along with the working load limit of the tie downs and chain up techniques
gut wraps are not required. Belly straps are required if the load is 3 or more tiers or anything over 6 foot tall. code section 393.103 starts the securement needed based on length in FMCSA. this video is for training on tarping loads and not proper securement that is on private property.
Looks kids spoiler alert no SAFETY harness and SAFETY glasses just imagining one the rubber snubber (break))no more eyes no more CDL. AHHHHH be safe then sorry ( no more driving) you're can't drive with one eye D.O.T Regulation ahhh
OK I am a flat bed driver 13 years a few things I see wrong your folding the rear flap incorrectly it should be under the sides for aerodynamic they even did a cut jump with it correct but didn't take the screw up out and also you NEVER face the hooks on bungies outward it will rub holes in tarp you always hook them away from the tarp look at the flap job on rear at first this is supposed to be educational COME ON PRIME TEACH THEM CORRECTLY DO BETTER !!!!!!!!
what are you talking about. The tarp is folded correctly and aerodynamic. Are you looking at the wrong end? The bungies are facing outward as well as you dont want holes in the tarps or freight. SMH
