I can honestly say, by far this the most beautiful footage of tarpon fishing. You guy managed to capture these animals in a incredible way. Great fishing and amazing footage.
Love your video and Hogy lures, they do attract fish! With lures such as soft eels, I have so many short hits, not Tarpon, but other toothy species, where they chop the eel in half, but miss the hook. Good for Hogy, bad for $$ me. My fix was to add a stealthy stinger hook. I attach a #5 wire (haywire twist) to the Hogy hook, feed the wire through the soft eel then attach a #4 or #6 treble hook near the back. Guess what, it works. I catch more fish on the stinger hook now than on the main hook ...
@miamiwax In general, avoiding high sticking the rod is good practice. Having the rod at a low angle to the side gives you better leverage to put pressure on the fish.
Hi guys. Do you ship world wide? I am based in South Africa and recently started doing guided trips to Angola..plenty of big tarpon there to catch land based. I would love to try some of the Hogy baits there on the Tarpon and Jacks cravelles. Also some massive cubera snappers and threadfin.
So targeting Tarpon you should at least have 40 lbs test braid line or more huh? And every video I've seen the fishermen or fisherwomen has there drag set loose. I'm assumin' if you have it tight they will break the line huh? So the drag needs to be set loose right? Are they on the east coast of Central Florida or west coast of Central Florida any? I want to fish the "Tarpon Game" just gotta find'em. Any tips would be great and love the video and great video.
Mitch - Often the fish that you see rolling in the channels aren't in a feeding mode. It can be a common misconception that those fish are the best target. Instead, try fishing below the surface, as the actively feeding fish will be near the mid to bottom water column.
This was probably filmed in April or May, it's been a little while since we filmed it. It always seems to be windy in the Key's when we visit! It's also a great time for tarpon. Good Luck!
Love it ! i miss that shit foe sho here im tuning the snow mobile waiting for good ice to drill some holes too cold for the boat not cold enough for ice bumbaclot
Wyatt - It was an old Crowder spinning rod. If you're looking for a great tarpon rod, check out Sewell Custom Rods - 8' Hogy Swim Bait Rod. It's a beast on tarpon.
