I panicked on the first night and ended up in a hotel, but once the weather was good and I had practiced pitching it I just fell in love.

Brilliant Julia. When my silnylon Notch eventually gives up the ghost I shall have to consider the Li model. Glad you mentioned the packing away too as I'd heard it was tricky as you can't 'stuff' dyneema like silnylon. Cheers, Chris

I'm a convert to DCF - I can't imagine stuffing it though (it's too expensive!). I've not really tested it in bad windy conditions, which is where sil nylon will be much better and less noisy. Thanks for commenting Chris. x

I have theNotch Li (the2nd version, made in China). It is truly "Hilleberg quality and its design is excellent. I added 4 fly hem stake loops sewn to self-adhesive Dyneema circle patches wrapped evenly on both sided go the hem edge. Then I added a larger Tenacious Tape circles over them for even more reinforcement. These extra fly hem stake loops will be necessary in high winds to keep the fly from flapping and wearing out ANDto keep it much quieter in anwindstorm so you can sleep. Also I dyed the inner tent green with RIT DyeMore for synthetic fabrics. This gives me more shade from the sun if I want to sleep in or take a nap at nearly camp. BTW, this is my FIFTH Tarptent over 15 years.

I’ve just added four extra guy loops to the middle door (see video on my “niggles on the Tarptent). I’m hoping this will resolve the flapping. I never throughly about dying the inside. What a good idea!

Love the video Julia, your enthusiasm for this bit of technology is almost overwhelming !😂 However to compare even some of the features with a Lanshan is somewhat unfair! It’s like comparing a Rolls Royce with a Honda Jazz😂 just one observation, the Lanshan is not a 4 season tent, it certainly isn’t safe to take it into the mountains as one poor YT author will attest! And let’s not forget you could buy 4-5 Lanshan’s for the price of your super shelter! Once again, love the video, stay safe, kind regards from deepest Dorset 👍

Hi Clive, I completely agree and you can't really compare the Tarptent to the Lanshan (but it's the only other tent that I have got - in fact, I have two Lanshans and I think they are great tents). My Lanshan was not good in high winds which resulted in a big split down the middle of the tent, so I also agree that it is not a 4 season tent. I do miss the room from my Lanshan 2. Thanks for the comment Clive, it's appreciated.

You should check out the Durston X-Mid 1P and 2P tents. Both are super light and both have two vestibules with separate inners and outers.

I so nearly went with a Durston tent, but they are out of stock everywhere and have been for a while now. They look like awesome tents though.

I'm a freak when its come to Tarptent I have the Stratosphere 1 sil nylon and the Tartent Spratospire Li and I love both of them. Henry Shire is a genius when it comes to designing tents. I have put both tents through a thorough test and these two tents are the best I've ever owned. Imagine how much these two tents cost in Canadian dollars. The Stratosphere Li was almost $1000.00 dollar Canadian when I bought it. Do I think his tents are worth it......YES Take good care of them and you will have for years Sheila Vancouver BC Canada

Hello Julia, I'm thinking of getting this tent. I love to see content about it so thank you. I hope you are enjoying it. I see you have a ground cover that you are using with it - what is that? ATB.

I love this tent (I do have a few niggles but it's a fab tent). I've been using my Lanshan 2 groundsheet which works well, but I have just ordered a Ripstop Aluminium insulating Groundsheet UL for £12.99 which I will cut to size (or just a bit smaller). I'll do a quick video on it if you are interested?

Hi! Tarptent website lists two different solid inners, which one do you have? 1) Solid with Dyneema floor or 2) Both mesh and solid interiors with Dyneema floors?

Hi Julia. Not a comment on the Notch but I see from your WHW videos that you use trekking poles, so wondering why don't you use those to pitch the tent rather than the additional poles you use? ATB
@TheAdventureGeek
@TheAdventureGeek 2 года назад
That’s a very good question Reg! I use Leki urban poles which twist to extend etc. I have Raynaud’s disease and when it’s cold 🥶 I struggle with adjusting the pole length, hence the carbon poles. I’ve now got some “snap” trekking poles which are both lighter and easier to use, so I’ll use my trekking poles going forward. The carbon poles were handy when car camping, so you don’t have to dismantle the tent when pitching for multiple days and then wanting to go for a day hike with your poles. I hope that answers your question?

Very detailed review. BTW, the "solid" fabric is, according to Henry Shires, actually LIGHTER per square meter than the netting! FYI: During a wind test of my Gen. 2 Notch Li with 35 - 45 mh winds All guy lines were staked out as well as the fly hem stake loops that I had added earlier. I had one of the black Hypalon "pole sockets" come unglued and, naturally, the pole fell down. I emailed Henry Shires at Tarptent and he sent me a tube of "SEAM GRIP" ( the type used for polyurethane tents) to glue it back. I did so and it worked very well with a definitely stronger attachment than before. I use the optional "handle pockets" B/C I want only my pole tips on the ground, not the handles. 1st TIP-> Use Seam Grip AROUND THE EDGES of the black Hypalon circle of the "Pole socket" to further secure this critical piece. Ya don't want it to come off on "a dark and stormy night"! 2nd TIP-> I wanted to keep the floor as WIDE as possible but the attached nylon webbing and elastic loop were too long to pull the floor out and still keep the poles vertical. So I shortened it so the webbing stuck out from the floor only 1/4" (.5 cm.). Then I replaced the thin elastic loop with a heavy elastic loop. I made it from a fabric store length of heavier elastic and knotted it to form the loop. Some of my mods may seem niggling but they add up to a more secure setup and more interior room with some shade and privacy. When I go to sleep I want to sleep the entire night without the tent having weather or setup problems. "Zero Dark Thirty" is no time to be running around in yer briefs fixing tent problems.

Everyone is jumping on this tent! What happened to the tents they loved before this Hmmm, you are are 5th you tuber to change to this, is this a bandwagon, if not, very strange. I have a tarptent Scarp1 which I have had for 5 years, Lunar Solo and a Lanshan 1 Pro as I ripped the outside of my old lanshan 1.
@TheAdventureGeek

If I wasn't planning to hike the PCT then I would have stayed with my Lanshan as I also love that tent, and it has lots more room. Being 5ft 2" then the weight is really important to me on this upcoming hike - hence the swap. I was considering the Duplex but I don't like the D shaped doors, and this tent just works for me.
