I almost bought this one but decided against it after really looking at the colour story. It's predominately a basic colour story with a pop of green and I'm pretty sure that already I have these shades in my collection. I love the Maneater After Dark palette! It’s one of my go to palettes! I’ve never had any issues with it. I always do my eyes first so a little fallout doesn’t bother me. I’m passing on the new palette because the colors aren’t my favorite.
Last year’s palette was much of the same. You had to really build up colors in order for them to even show up. Tons of fallout and the brilliant colors weren’t brilliant with packing on a ton of times. Thank you for this review. I was hoping they’d have fixed the formulation this year and they clearly haven’t. I think I’ll save my pennies for the ND palette.
Tarte formula is never going to hold a candle to pmg or nd but for tarte these are exceptional color stories and tarte is more accessible for a lot of people. The looks you created are both pretty. I think the green shade would stay green when applied over the light green shade rather than the grey brown one you applied first in your second look. 😉
Tarte is known for having inconsistent formulas, especially with holiday collections. I think she’s holding it to a proper standard for the price point.
I fell for the maneater palette last year because I loved the color story and everyone was saying how amazing it was. I hated it! I got it for half off and still returned it because it wasn’t worth it. The shadows took so long to build up and faded off my eyes so fast!
I like the formula a lot from the 1st one. I dont think it is overrated, perhaps your standards are way up there? Especially because in US youguys have access to so many brands (high end and indie) whereas here in Mexico it is hard to get majority of brands. I am passing on this one because the upper half of the palette looks like the 1st one and the bottom looks like the Mercury Retrograde one which I already own, but to me the formula was very nice (and it is my only Tarte palette,never had ordered anything from them before since the palettes looked kind of boring until last year's appeared)
I just got the palette from last year through a 50% off sale that Tarte recently had. I swore I saw so many raving about it… I was not impressed. Swatching the shimmers - I was so excited. But on the lid… was not impressed at all. Glad I didn’t pay full price for it!
I got the Pat McGrath palette last year on sale and I love it! I won’t buy anything else from Tarte to be honest, I just purchased the ND Yucca palette and I love it!!!
I like both looks! Well, I don´t have the palette so I can´t speak about the quality. But there are people like me, with olive skin, on which those muddy colours look best of all. But I like them also on you - remember, you´ve put the green shadow over the greish one - this makes some mudyness, but nice one, I think. Thank you for the video!
I am a Tarte lover because the shadows don’t irritate my eyes and overall their products don’t disappoint me. Their Shape tape concealer and foundation is my ❤. I do have the Maneater from last year and I like it. I also bought the 2 shadow bundle they had last holiday 1 was warm tone and the other was cool and I have made my assessment on Tarte after using the cool pallet. Their warm colors due to the clay they use in the formulas are beautiful. Their cool tone formulas need help but a lot of brands struggle with cool tones that is why most of them are warm. Natasha and Huda know how to execute cool tones in their formula but even they struggle. The Glam pallet will normally look the same in the eye no matter how many colors I use. With that said, I’m sure the warms will work great in this pallet but the cool tones, well I wouldn’t buy it because of those 😊
The original Maneater palette was so different for the brand and that was what drew me to it. This one, not so much! You did a great job with it ! Great review.
I don’t think Tarte will ever have the formula of ND or PMG. But I think they aren’t playing to that audience. Their market is the average consumer with a smaller collection. I think many average consumers would rather have a buildable formula rather than the super richly pigmented formulas of some other brands. I also think most people are going to use the neutral colors in this palette occasionally dipping into the more vibrant colors. People who are into a lot of color probably aren’t going to buy a Tarte palette. Just as your avid makeup lovers aren’t really going to be excited about a Tarte palette.
It looks nice but for a little more $ I’m happy with my new ND palette & also jst order Patrick Ta’s new palette. I prefer a smaller collection with higher quality shadows.Tarte blushes are really the only thing worth buying imo.
I just got my first ever ND yucca palette and OMG the quality of the shadows is great, I waited for it to be discounted but I would be happy to pay the full price now I know how good it is
I can totally relate with what you are saying. Unfortunately this is not beginner friendly palette these mattes are not blending the way they suppose too.
I’ve gotten to the point where I pretty much only buy eyeshadows from 4 brands exclusively- PMG, ND, Huda (large palettes) & ABH. My experience is that these 4 brands are consistent with quality (not counting the one-offs here & There.) Tarte hasn’t interested me in quite a while. :( Hiii Patty! 💕
I NEVER buy makeup just for the packaging- that is the line I have drawn for myself BUT this palette is testing my resolve 😅 And the shades do look beautiful, I would use some of them. I’m not saying I’m going to get it but if I did it would have to be on sale…..
Last year's palette is still available to buy, so if you could review it, I would love to know your thoughts. This year's palette is disappointing because I was enjoying tarte going more colorful for their brand but they couldn't deliver on cool tone shades.
Basically we are paying for the brand name and packaging. I just got last years pallet and I must say it’s quality is exactly the same as the one you got. The mattes just get muddy and I also had to pack the shades and do minimal blending. Today I only used my fingers to apply all the shades and I actually got a better look out of the pallet than when using brushes.
The looks are pretty, but I definitely think last yrs was better than this one. I was wanting to get this one, but since seeing a few reviews I think ima pass. The have this cute lil face wand set I think ima get tho! They always have the best lil mini sets!!!
I don’t have a single tarte item in my collection and I plan to keep it that way until they actually wow me with something. Still absolutely love the reviews thanks for doing them even with products you know will probably be mediocre
Tarte is never really going to wow you. Tarte is for the neutral lover that’s a little more in to “healthier” makeup. There’s so many indie brands and higher end that are way more.
It's a little silly to have to, but it seems like the colors show up better when you use your fingers. I just bought the Big Ego palette bc I loved the colors. The fallout is terrible, and the formula sucks, but the colors are gorgeous...it's almost worth it 😂
Last year's was much better. However, I hardly ever reach for it. Not really sure why. Maybe because I have a gazillion palettes and I reach for my ND ones, instead. However, not getting this year's.
I dunno what’s going on with Tarte but their quality has nosedived the past several years… their new foundation formulas suck, their blushes hardpan like crazy and eyeshadow palettes give patchy applications 😩 I used to stan them so much years and years ago. Sad to see how bad they are now
Last years was so much better. This year the mattes seem more patchy, disappears and depending on what shades you use together they get muddy. Idk definitely disappointing compared to last year.
De esta marca solo tengo Tarte in Bloom y me encanta.... pero la uso muy poco. Creo que tu problema es el mismo que el mío: una vez que pruebas ABH, ND o Pat no hay vuelta atrás.... el salto en la calidad es gigantesco.... I bought this palette online from Ulta for $52. Then it was marked down to $36. Now it is marked down to $26. I haven’t even used it yet and I’m so Angry with it! 😢
I got the Maneater After Dark becuase it was hyped up but honestly I didn't like the formula. I thought the shimmers were lack luster. I actually prefer Tartlette Energy palette. This was a pass for me.
I fell for a palette last year and the colour pay off was a joke, such a bad product I'd never use Tarte again. Especially after seeing all the drama on their influencer trips too, the company just seems bad.
I used to like a couple of products from tarte but after trying a few of their holidays releases 4-5 years ago I was sk disappointed that I haven't bought anything from them since. This color story is really pretty so I was tempted but based on the reviews I've watched so far, I'll pass.
