Pokémon is a phenomenon that made itself very famous in a short time a few years ago. Pokémon Blue is part of the first generation of the games of that series that were made.
Up until this day, thousands of Pokémon fans have analyzed the games, finding out the exact formulae of how each battle situation in these games works out, how experience and levels and everything works, and what are the most effective ways to battle.

This game taught me how to read! Well not really, but it got me to read fluently and read through bulks of text for the first time. It genuinely was a major influence in my early development :)

So much of this video is spent at single-digit HP that it's hard to watch. And when I say "hard to watch", I mean "hard to listen to, since that low-HP alarm starts giving me a headache after a while."

Was there a purpose going to the bike shop and talking to the guy three times before getting the voucher? I've never seen that done before in a run

It’s called instant text. Canceling out of that particular dialogue causes the game to show dialogue panels instantly instead of one letter at a time, but it’s broken by menuing and answering yes/no questions.

Wouldn't it be faster if you talked to the bike voucher guy before entering the gym, since you could do instant text there? And later use escape rope in the gym? If I am wrong about this then sorry, I know little of this game :P

I think the reason he did it after is because he healed after and also taught bubblebeam which would remove the instant text (yes no boxes remove it). It wouldn't have been worth it to do it both before and after the gym because it'd be slower

It doesn't bother me, as they say, young people are bothered by 8-bit noises as they have a decibel frequency, which stuns them, they are delicate, as this new generation is always some crystal children

To answer your second question, it has to do with the redbar sound effect. A lot of pokemon share the same base cry, but altered to sound different. Since the redbar sound is going off, it causes the unaltered cry to play.

The crit text costs time and doesn‘t always change the number of turns needed to win.

hgss battle rng is based on when the screen turns black so the battles won't always be perfect. You could wait hours just for the battle to go the way you want it to go.

It's an oversight with how the game handles the "low health" beeping sound. It overrides a lot of other audio cues, which is why the player tries to spend the run at low health for as long as possible. And that includes some of the modulation involved in cries.

You just roll back until you get the desired outcome. Like using save states.

The way that games decide “random” outcomes can be predicted and influenced; the TASer either finds a specific way to manipulate the luck to what they want it to be or they bruteforce it by reloading a save state until the outcome they want happens

Perfect luck is a part of TASes. They can reset and reload the game as often as they like, and that means they can pull off things that would be impossible in any other run.

@@USNTM2 By pressing the A or B button while walking, you can cause the game to lag for I think one frame, which can affect the tiles where Pokemon spawn. It's also been used by human input to get the Nidoran-M run that you already know about.

its a tool assisted speedrun, which means the creator uses both rng manipulation and a lot of resets to get the desired outcome of a battle or random encounters. no changes to the code at all!

I'm pretty sure there's something with the viridian forest tiles, some of them don't have encounters (I think there's like a tiny difference in the sprite of grass that have encounters and grass that doesn't)
